Hello, everyone! It’s my great honor to speak here! Since the Mother’s Day is approaching, I’d like to share with you some of my feelings based on a survey.

As is vividly shown in the chart, most students in the three age groups choose to celebrate their mothers’ and classmates’ birthdays. And as time goes by, the number increases from about 50 percent elementary school students, 60 percent junior high school students to over 90 percent senior high school students. However, among all the three groups, more students tend to celebrate their peers’ birthday rather than their mothers’.

The reasons are as follows. First, the increase in the number of students who celebrate others’ birthdays indicates an increasing awareness of others around us, and a tendency and desire to express our care to others, which is a positive sign. However, the lack of attention to our own mothers’ birthday may lie in the limited time spent together, for students often share most of their time with peers at school. Less company thus leads to less communication, resulting in our less care of our mothers. Mom should have been our closest friend, and we are all clear of their warm care and love.

The Mothers’ Day is around the corner, and it’s high time that we care more about our mom and increase quality time spent with them. Behaviors are more powerful than words. Please well treat your mom. Thank you for your listening.

My fellow classmates,

Good morning. It’s a great honor for me to stand here, giving a speech. Today is Mothers’ Day and I want to talk about the topic of “Our thanks to Mum.”

This is a chat that shows the result of an investigation on the percents of our celebrating birthdays for mothers and classmates respectively. As is revealed, the number of pupils celebrating birthdays for mothers takes up 54% and for classmates, 56%。The number of senior high students celebrating birthdays for mother accounts for 91% and for classmates, 92%. However, the gap between the percents of junior students who celebrate birthdays for mothers and those for classmates is surprising big, at 66% and 86% respectively.

These figures mirror the phenomenon that we students, regardless of whether we are pupils, junior students or senior students, tend to celebrate birthdays for our classmates, rather than mothers. This is partly due to our closer relationship between peers, more understanding and more interests shared in common. What’s more, the conflicts between the certain percents of junior students may result from the adolescents’ mental states of disobeying their parents, thus broadening the gap between children and parents and neglecting their thanks to mums.

What I want to say is that mothers are always the people we should show gratitude to, not only because they gave us birth, but also they are forever the closest people to us. No one knows what may happen in the future, happy or sad, but one thing is certain that mothers are our habours where we can relax and get comfort. Mothers are to us what sunshine to darkness. Let’s show our gratitude to our thanks for listening.
