3 PAPER MANUFACTURERS

(a) Recommended paper weights for wine

industry Open forum to discuss and adopt WPA Guidelines for Pressure Sensitive Labels.

(i) Paper weight range for body labels WPA Guidelines 80 gsm – 135 gsm .

(ii) Paper weight for neck labels WPA Guidelines 60 gsm – 80 gsm.

(ii) Recommended adhesives Open forum to discuss recommendations

WLK202; Wausau WL100, C58, Z3338,

RP30/RF30 and for heavy condensation RH93 or

RP30X.

(b) Embossed/grain free zone Open forum to discuss and adopt WPA

Guidelines 3 (d) minimum 3mm around all four

edges of the label.

5 INDUSTRY STANDARD TEST METHODS

(a) COBB Values AUS/NZ standard 1301.411s:2004 Methods of

test for pulp and paper Part 411s: Water

absorptiveness of paper and paperboard (Cobb

test). Open discussion to include Cobb testing as

part of the paper/label suppliers R&D in an effort

to reduce label bubbling.

(b) Printing properties – Determining

abrasive resistance AUS/NZ standard AS 2323/4/3-2006 Methods of test for single sided and double sided pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. Open discussion to adopt as industry standard.

(c) Determining ability of adhesive to

resist water ingress post bottling Open discussion on the WPA Ice Bucket test method

(d) Determining whether sufficient

varnish/ink application on label to

resist moisture absorption post

bottling Open discussion on the WPA Water Spray Test method
