A termite is much like an ant in its communal habits, although physically the two insects are different.

Like those of ants, termite colonies consist of different classes, with its own particular job. The most perfectly formed termites, both male and female, make up the reproductive class. They have eyes, hard body walls, and fully devloped wings.

A pair of reproductive termites founds the colony. When new reproductive termites develop, they leave to form another colony. They use their wings only this one time

Primitive (of the earliest times) man would, the story goes, eat the heart of animals he killed.He would eat the heart of a lion to gain the lion's courage.

“Impossible,”you may say. Well, listen to this from the world of science. Dr Georges Ungar of Baylor University in Houston says that learned information can

be passed to other animals from the ones who did the learning.

Dr Ungar trained(训练) rats to like lighted boxes better than dark boxes. How did he do this to rats that usually like the dark? He shocked (使震惊) any rat which went into a dark area. After five to eight days the rats learned that a more peaceful life could be lived in lighted boxes. They got to love the light.

Then he killed the rats. He injected(注射) part of their trained brains into 638 mice. These had shown they liked the dark. He put parts of the brains of untrained rats into 132 other mice.These mice also liked the dark.

Result? Animals that got the trained brains spent 63 seconds in the dark. Animals that got the untrained brains spent 118 seconds in the dark. The figures (=numbers) are very important. Normally only one mouse out of 5000 would choose the light by chance.

Maybe eating the heart of a lion might not be a bad idea!
