Young People Should Have Ideals

To different people, the word "ideal" may mean different things. To some, it may mean success and fame in their career; to others, a peaceful life. Very often, we have ideals for the "self" and no ideal for society, let alone the people of the world. Is it a sound attitude toward life?

In my opinion, a youth should have ideals. But it is more important that these ideals are not merely centered on the "self". They should be also the ideals of the majority of people. Then you would get strength and confidence toward life for you are striving for the benefits of your fellowmen.

The setting up of an idea does not merely mean to go without doing anything. Real and concrete action should be taken. For us students, the most important thing to do is to study diligently. We study hard not to become bookworms, but to make us well-equipped and well-prepared for the pursuit of our ideals. Sometimes, in striving toward our ideas, we may encounter certain difficulties and failures. But we should not give up or lose hope, for as long as we try, there is always a way out.

"Little Emperor" in China

Recently in China, "Little Emperor" has become the nickname for many children. Due to the one-child policy, most Chinese family has only one child now and this one child is regarded as the treasure of the whole family. The parents and grandparents try thier best to satisfy the child's every need. He/She can get whatever he/she likes and avoid whatever he/she dislikes. It has been a common practice that the parents should obey their child's "order". As a result, the spoiled child becomes the "little emperor" who rules teh whole family.

This kind of fondness will do great harm to the children themselves. Under their parents' protection, the children know only comfort and ease. They can't live independently. They don't cherish what they get because they get things too easily. They can't cope with the adversities that they will meet with in the future. Moreover, too much praise makes the children proud. Therefore, the spoiled children are likely to develop all kinds of bad habits in the long run.

So parents and teachers should take measures to eliminate the phenomenon of "litter emperors". Firstly, they should be aware of the harmful effect fondness has on the children. Secondly, they should not hesitate to scold the children if they have done wrong. Thirdly, parents should deliberately create adverse conditions for the children to handle. "hardship education" has become popular with modern children. All these measures aim at the children's normal growth and development.

Should We Clone Human

These days the world is excited by a piece of news that we can clone a sheep now. There are not many technical problems for us to clone human. But should we clone human? People are discussing this question seriously.

Some people think that we should clone human becuase it is very useful in science. Firstly, by cloning human, people can learn more about genetics. People can know more details of genetic illness; and so people can try to treat them. Secondly, people can clone a person's apparatus if he needs to change it for a new one. In this way, we can solve the problme of high death rate in apparatus transplantation and we can get enough apparatus to cure the patients. Thirdly, one can clone himself. The new copy is completely the same as oneself, sot it can be regarded as the continuance of one's life.

However many people disagree, because there still exist many social problems. They ask the question if one can get another person's apparatus without any precondition though that person is cloned from him. They think that the cloned person is an independent person that has his own right. For the same reason, they also quesition if a cloned person can be considered the preson he cloned from. A body can be cloned, but how can we clone a person's soul?

My view is that we should not clone human now. We must consider the soical problems carefully. We should not clone human until we find good solutions to them.

Health

As the proverb says, "no one knows the value of health until he loses it." In other words, nothing is more valuable than health. It is clear that health is the foundation of one's future success. If you become sick, it is nearly impossible to pursue your career effectvely. and much less to make your dreams come true. On the other hand, if you are stout and trong, you can go all out to overcome the obstacles that lie ahead of you.

Now that we know that health is the resource of our energy, what should we do to maintain and enhance our health? first, we should exercise every day to srengthen our muscles. Second, we might as well keep good hours. If we get up early, we can breathe fresh air and see the sunrise. This habit can do wonders for our outlook on life. Third, there is a proverb that says, "prevention is bettern than cure." If you pay close attention to your health, you can avoid getting sick, or at least cure yourself of a disease while it is still in its early stage.

In conclusion, health is of great importance to our life. If you want your wish to come ture, you should firstly build a healthy body.

Internet

Internet is a worldwide network of computers. It's just like a net of information that covers every corner of the world, that connects the whole planet into a "global village". With a few clicks on the keyboard, we can virtually visit everywhere in the world. While lots of people welcome the electronic era and enjoy the convenient services brought about by the internet, some are worrying about the problems it brought us.

On one hand, the Internet shows a closer and wider world than ever before. It helps us to widen communication and deepen relationship with each other and to enable us to do things more easily and quickly. For example, we can communicate freely by electronic mails with

people from all over the world. It takes only a few seconds to get a message across with the cost much lower than that of the postal service. Also, an enormous amount of information can be accessible through the Internet. A fantastic new world will be open to us just bu clicking the mouse.

But on the other hand, the Internet also brings us some troubles. Useless information, such as junk mails, and excessive games are pushed to us, which waste a lot of our precious time to sort them out. Some web sites contain unhealthy contents, which is harmful especially to children and teenagers. Furthermore, computer network has become so indispensable for personal contacts and public services that once the routine functioning of the system is infected by virus, valuable information may be revealed or lost, which can bring about many problems to the individuals or social institutions. Therefore, the safety of network has become a growing public concern.

All in all, we can't live without computer network now. There's no limit to things the Internet can do. But at the same time we must try to find out new ways to cope with problems that will arise as it become a natural part of our lives.

My View on Following the Fashion

In the recent age, people are having a hard time reaching consensus on whether we should follow the fashion. Some people believe that following the fashion is pretty reasonable. However, some argue that it is rather stupid. From my perspective, fashion is a modern p roduce of our lives, it’s hard to assert which side is more sensible. We should consider this issue from a rational and dialectical point of view.

One the one hand, society is progressing and one should adapt oneself to the constant change. If everyone always sticks to the old fashion, there won't be any change and naturally there won't be progress. Moreover, a new trend often involves new ideas, which may promote the development of human civilization. For example, when jeans appeared, they might have looked strange to most observers, but later on people found them to be convenient. Last but not least, the choice of a certain style can usually reflect one’s taste. Sometimes the fashionable clothes may give them more advantages in front of some opportunitie s. Just as a saying goes, “Clothes make the man.”

However, I’m against following new fashions blindly. We should follow the fashion without discrimination and one should have one's own judgment. Actually, fashion changes very fast and we should take our financial situation into account. Admittedly, if we have to be up to date with fashion, it will burn a hole in our pocket.

On the basis of the above factors, my conclusion is it’s sensible for us to follow the fashion rationally, for it can promote our self image. However, everything must have a degree. Only by this way can we take advantage of the trend.

How to be a good manager

A good manager can be hard to find in some organizations. Some people really have no business supervising people, but for whatever reason they have been given an opportunity. When someone is a "good" manager, it usually shows. Sometimes it can be hard to quantify exactly why that person is a good manager, but many times those effective supervisors are easily identified. Experts debate whether good management is innate or whether it can be learned. The answer probably lies somewhere in between. Regardless, here are a few thoughts on the qualities of a good manager.

The good manager is someone that hears, understands, and is able to understand their particular surroundings. In the modern age of business, people expect to be heard. That doesn't mean that the quality manager has to cater to every employee whim. However, it does mean that they have to respect people enough to let them express their opinion. The good manager is the person who can create an atmosphere of open dialog while at the same time maintaining the confidence to make tough decisions that may or may not be popular.

Another quality of a good manager is the ability to see the big picture and yet manage the day-to-day operations of an organization. Some people can dream big dreams but can't put them into practice. Other managers can manage the steps of a project, but they can't take organization beyond the standard owner's manual. The good manager is able to balance the two components and is able to cast a vision for their employees while creating a plan of implementation that is truly effective.

Finally, the good manager is the person who can interact well with their employees on a daily basis and communicate both daily tasks and complex projects. In addition, the effective manager is usually confident enough not to take him or herself too seriously. Humor is often appreciated in the workplace. This doesn't mean that they try to be the office clown, because

sometimes this can be a distraction. However, a relaxed and humorous atmosphere can often create some level of calm in stressful situations. The effective manager is able to leverage humor in such a way that it keeps the staff in a positive frame of mind while they are completing difficult tasks.
