Happiness

Happiness tells the story of two people(acted by Lisa Turbot and Danny Roy)who work for different advertising companies. They talk on the phone all the time and don’t like each other. But then they communicate by mail and fall in love. This movie will be very popular with

teenagers and people who like romances. It also has beautiful music.

I Scream

In the movie, Paul(acted by Colin Jacks) is a young man who joins a thriller club. Each of the members tries to frighten the others. Paul is told to stay in an old house for the night. Everyone who has tried to stay in the house before has died. This movie is very frightening but also quite silly. It doesn't make sense for Paul to stay in the house when things start to go wrong. Only for people who like thrillers.

Paul's Heros

This is a very funny war movie set in World War Two. Six soildiers (including Sammy Turblow) have to get to Italy to take secret messages to the American army there. In his travels he meets Dr. Lioyd(acted by Phil Driver) who has found the cure for the illness, but Jack Ross has only twelve hours to get the medicine back to his wife on the other side of America. 56.Which of the following is the best title for the fourth movie?

A.Twelve Hours B.A Truck Driver

C.Medicine D.A Sick Wife

A.The first movie tells of a romantic story.

B.The second movie is for only thriller lovers.

C.Six American soildiers dressed up to take secret messages.

58.What kind of movie should the movie Paul's Heros probably be?

What’s peace? Different people have different ideas. There once was a professor who wanted to show his students this principle. So he offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The professor looked at all the pictures. But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace. The other picture had mountains, too. But

these were rugged(崎岖的)and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all.

But when the professor looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest—in perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize? The professor chose the second picture. Do you know why?

“Because”,explained the professor, “peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace.”

61.Which of the following is true about the two pictures?

A.The contents of the two pictures are the same.

B.The bush and the mother bird in the second picture are believed peaceful.

62.The underlined word “tumbled”(2nd paragraph) in this passage probably means ________.

A.appeared suddenly

B.fell helplessly or violently

C.run freely and quickly

D.stopped suddenly

63.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?

A.The Real Meaning of Peace

B.The Difficulty to Draw a Picture Well

C.The Different Understanding of Pictures

D.The Importance of Thinking Differently

64.How does the professor probably feel about the second picture?

A.Fairly complex.

B.Quite simple.

C.Rather meaningful.

D.V ery enjoyable.

65.We can infer from the text that the author ________.

A.wants to remind the readers to live a peaceful life

B.wants to tell the differences between the two pictures

C.wonders that the artist can draw such a good picture

D.believes that picture can reflect the real meaning of peace

C

All over the world mothers and fathers teach their children manners. Other children may have manners that are not like yours. There are all kinds of manners.

Many years ago, children who had good manners were seen and not heard. They kept quite quiet if grown-ups were talking. Today, well-mannered children have more freedom.

Sometimes good manners in one place are bad manners in other places.

Suppose you are a visitor in the land of Mongolia. Some friends ask you to eat with them.

What kind of manners do they want you to have? They want you to give a loud “burp” after you finish eating. Burping would show that you liked your food.

In some countries, if you give a loud burp, you are told to say “Excuse me, please.”

In many places people like to eat together. But in some parts of Polynesia, it is bad manners to be seen eating at all. People show good manners by turning their backs on others while they eat.

What are manners like in an East African town? The people try not to see you. They are being polite. Y ou may see a friend. He may not see you at all. If you are polite, you will sit down beside him. Y ou will wait until he finishes what he is doing. Then he will talk to you.

Suppose you visit a friend in Arabia. Y ou should walk behind the other tents until you come to his tent. If you pass in front of the other tents, you will be asked into each one. The people will ask you to eat with them. And it is bad manners if you say no.

73.Which of the following statements is TRUE?

A.In Mongolia, you should say “Excuse me” when you give a burp after dinner.

B.Children with good manners are quiet.

C.Y ou should not walk behind the tents in Arabia.

D.Manners are different all over the world.

74.Sometimes good manners in one place are bad manners in other places. Which should be supporting paragraph(s) to the idea?

Many of us do not like the things we see around us. For example, the bad habits of some

people, the rude manners and even the air pollution. If you do not want the things you see around you, don't just watch and hope it will change. Only lazy people might say that is the way things have been working and that is the way they are going to continually work. In fact, they won't change themselves if you don't do something to help them change.

Maybe some people want the whole country to change? That is a far too enormous project. I think you can start by changing the small things around you.

Y our habit should be the first thing to change. Change what you think about and change what you talk about. Change the things that get your attention before you plan to change a nation.

Can you remember how difficult it was for you to break a habit that you desired to break some years back? Do you remember that habit of yours that you are still struggling to break? If so, then you must fall_in_with the view that things are not just going to change by your magic thought.

As far as I am concerned, the best way I have changed people around me is that I changed myself. People are watching you. Some of them do not expect you to change, so your change is going to be like a miracle to them and will influence them. When you change, they will change. Just change yourself and see how many people will tell you later that you were the one who changed them. That is one simple way young people can change their surroundings.
