A

Every one of us has been hurt by others – either by their words or actions. In those moments, you may feel so much anger that you want to hurt the other person too.

But we all know that revenge(报复) doesn’t get us anywhere. So, in order to live a happy life, the best way to deal with the problem is, perhaps, as the old saying goes, to “forgive and forget”.

The wisdom of this saying has even been proven in scientific studies. “It is well established that learning to forgive others can have positive benefits for one’s physical and mental Health,”Saima Noreen, a scientist at the University of St Andrews, Uk, told the Huffington Post.

And now, Noreen and her research team may have found one more reason that you should stick to this principle – forgiving somebody who has hurt you makes it easier for you to forget the unhappy memory, according to their new study.

In the study, researchers asked volunteers to read descriptions of 40 different situations that contained bad actions such as stealing, lying and cheating.

Volunteers then had to decide whether they would be able to forgive the person if they were the victims.

Two weeks later, volunteers took part in a memory test. In the test, they were shown a series of words related to the situations they’d read about and were asked to recall certain ones and forget others.

The results showed that people were less likely to remember the details of the unpleasant experiences if they had found forgiveness in their hearts. In contrast(相比之下),if they hadn’t forgiven the mistake, they could always recall what had happened, even if they were told to forget it.

According to Noreen, our abilities to overcome strong emotions against someone and to deliberately(刻意地) forget about bad memories are linked to the same mechanism(构造)in our brains. And it might be this mechanism that connects forgiveness to forgetting.

33.The underline word “recall” in Paragraph 6 is closest in meaning to ______.

A. translate

B. focus on

C. remember

D. explain

34.Which of the following is the right order of the study mentioned above?

d. Read descriptions of 40 different situations.

A. d-b-a-c

B. d-b-c-a

35.What have Noreen and her research team found recently?

A. Forgiving helps us to forget unhappy memories.

B. Forgiving is good for our physical and mental health.

C. Forgiving when others once hurt you could help you live a happier life.

D.A certain mechanism in our brains connects forgiveness to forgetting.

It’s a common situation to start a day ---- you struggle to get out of bed in the morning, feeling tired and weak.

You’re not alone. As a recent article in The Huffington Post point out, today so many of us struggle with not getting enough sleep that we become really

tired. 36 So, we are “t’wired” ---- tired and wired (极度兴奋的) at the same time.

It is a “relentless(无休无止的) lifestyle”, according to The Huffington Post. We are lost in information and entertainment choices. 37 We are walking, talking, typing and thinking faster and faster.

38 -- how to truly rest, noted Rubin Naiman, a writer for Psychology Today magazine. “We commonly confuse rest with having fun. Catching a movie, going dancing or watching a TV show may be enjoyable and refreshing (放松的) --- but they’re not true rest,” he said.

39

First slow and then stop, suggested The Huffington Post. We should “turn off the cell phone and computer before going to bed.” Said the Daily Mail.

40 We need to do “a daily practice such as meditation(冥想), yoga or breathing exercises that slow the body and mind”, said Naiman.

“In a world gone mad with high speed, practicing true rest is a subversive(颠覆性的) act,” noted The Huffington Post. It invites us to march to a different drum, to the beats of nature.

A. True rest is about finding a state of inner peace.

B. We often run after fame and ignore people around us.

C. We feel a need to always be active and productive.

D. You can’t imagine how much fun true rest can bring us.

E. So how can we become less tired and more well-rest?

F. But, the problem is, too many of us have forgotten how to rest.

G. Meanwhile, our fast modern lifestyle drive us to feel wide awake.

Breakfast has been called the most important meal of the day. While every meal counts, the facts are on the table: Eating in the morning has positive

effects 61 health and on kids’ ability to learn.

What’s a nutritious breakfast? A meal 62 (consist) of foods from at least two of the five food groups is the healthiest, but the truth is 63 a bite of nearly any food in the morning is better than none, 64 (especial) when it comes to kids.

It’s a good idea 65 (get) your child into the habit of eating breakfast before he begins kindergarten. That’s because youngsters 66 eat breakfast tend to behave better in school.67 (hungry) makes it harder to keep your mind focused on learning, no matter what your age. In fact, studies show breakfast skippers are often more bad-tempered and have 68 (short) attention.

When you forget eating in the morning, blood glucose(血糖) drops. Glucose is the fuel cells’ need to function, so brain cells become particularly lazy when glucose concentrations are insufficient. Without adequate energy, young minds get gray, blocking concentration and memory. Without 69 morning meal, kids are hard-pressed to meet daily nutrient needs, too.

You’re probably pressed for time in the morning, and so 70 (be) your children.

5. 注意一些连词 如一些表示转折的连词,but,However,yet,though,nevertheless 等,另外还有一些表示并列关系的连词如and,also,as well as,neither nor,either or,not only...but also,on the one hand....on the other hand等。

When I was small, my mother and I would walk to our local library in Franklin Square. As we didn't always have access to a reliable car, walking hand in hand was the most convenient way to get anywhere. It was at story time for children that both my mother and I made lasting friendships. Today, I am fortunate to live around the corner from the Cold Coast Public Library in Glen Head and a short walk to the Sea Cliff Children's Library. My 18-imonth-old son, Colin, and I find ourselves in Sea Cliff several times a week, meeting and making friends. Well, that is what many people don't understand-a library is more than books; it's a community. Sure, the library in Franklin Square was the place where I was introduced to Judy Blume novels. But it was also the place where I got my first email address in 1997. At the library, friends and I learned how to research colleges and search for scholarships on the Internet. The library was the place where we sometimes giggled(咯咯笑)too loudly, and where the librarians knew us by name. Their knowing our names wasn't a bad thing. When I came home from my first term at Binghamton University, Mary LaRosa, the librarian at the Franklin Square library, offered me my first teaching job. I now teach reading at Nassau Community College. My students are often amazed that they can check out books via their smartphones and virtually(虚拟地)visit a variety of Long Island libraries. The app used by Nassau and Suffolk county public libraries, as well as the college library, makes their homework easier by helping them find resources. Even though they can't always easily visit their local libraries, the library is always with them. (1)Why does the author consider herself lucky today? A. She has become her mother's best friend. B. She has access to a reliable car now. C. She can meet friends at the library. D. She lives close to libraries. (2)What does the underlined word "that" in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. Socializing in a library. B. Reading books in a library. C. Visiting a library with a family member. D. Building parent-child friendship in a library.(3)What is the author's attitude to her students' way of visiting libraries? A. Cautious. B. Favorable. C. Doubtful. D. Disapproving. (4)Why does the author write the text? A. To discuss why libraries are important. B. To express her deep love for libraries. C. To explain how libraries change. 4 A A child who has once been pleased with a tale likes, as a rule, to have it retold in almost the same words, but this should not lead parents to treat printed fairy stories as formal texts. It is always much better to tell a story than read it out of a book, and, if a parent can produce what, in the actual situation of the time and the child, is an improvement on the printed text, so much the better. A charge made against fairy tales is that they harm the child by frightening him or making him sad thinking. To prove the latter, one would have to show in a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often sorry for cruelty than those who had not. As to fears, there are, I think, some cases of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy story. Often, however, this arises (出现) from the child having heard the story once. Familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered. There are also people who object to fairy stories on the grounds that they are not objectively true, that giants, witches, twoheaded dragons, magic carpets, etc. do not exist; and that, instead of being fond of the strange side in fairy tales, the child should be taught to learn the reality by studying history. I find such people, I must say so peculiar (奇怪的) that I do not know how to argue with them. If their case were sound, the world should be full of mad men attempting to fly from New York to Philadelphia on a stick or covering a telephone with kisses in the belief that it was their beloved girlfriend. No fairy story ever declared to be a description of the real world and no clever child has ever believed that it was. 1.The author considers that a fairy story is more effective when it is ________.
