Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1 Project Description

The author got the undergraduate degree from Nanyang Normal University and the major is tourism management, so she is familiar with Nanyang city and its tourism resources. Since Nanyang has a long history and beautiful scenery, there are many deep historical and cultural human landscapes and attractive natural scenery. It is one of the first historical and cultural cities of opening to outside. There are eight state emphasis cultural relic units and sixty-four provincial key cultural relic units and fourteen museums with different theme in Nanyang. In 2012, the seventh National Peasants Sports was held in Nanyang. It is the first time that a national competition was held in this city. Due to the National Peasants Sports, more and more tourists from home and abroad began to realize Nanyang. There are not only famous tourism attractions such as Wuhou Temple, Xixia Dinosaur Relics Park and so on, but also some tourist attractions enjoy a high historical value while low-profile. In order to promote foreign tourists to realize Nanyang tourism culture, the author chose two tour guide presentations about Neixiang County Ancient Government Office and Bao Tianman to translate.

In addition, the School of Foreign Languages, Mianyang Normal University has undertaken the Construction of Comprehensive Reform Project (English) and the tutor of the author is one of the people who in charge it. The important practical contents include that standard the tour guide presentation translation in Mianyang city and promoting the university to transform to local, applied and practical. Thus, the author’s practice could provide some references.

1.2 The Status of Research

With the sustainable development of tourism, especially inbound tourism, tour guide presentation translation has been improved and its standards become more and more normative. The study of tourism text translation has aroused attention from domestic translators and the tourist circle. The first national tourism culture seminar has been convened at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies on June 18, 2004.
