The story takes place in Verona city, there are two huge doors first significant group, the scores aroused a new struggle between the white blood to the public sewage ditch. Is doomed to the fate of the two enemies, gave birth to a pair of unfortunate lovers, "a general in the opening poem, the film has been passed down for hundreds of years of well-known tragedy of love began.

In this summer, I fell in love with a nameless to Shakespeare's drama, in reading "Hamlet," "King Lear" and so on, the most unfortunate not to see this world-famous drama, the first time to the library, on the mark on it, determined to read in three classes to finish it. Book and other writing style are very different, can be felt from the beginning. Drama poem is written in the language, the aristocratic elegance to the dialogue with verse, and the servants are very general, sufficient to show the status of the poor, and full of filled with the romantic tone of the humanities.

Montague family and Jiu family feud, as described in the script, they will fight a meeting, the two irreconcilable family of sons and daughters has e a lover, this is not God people get good luck ? "She is the pearl of the sky to land the world!" Romeo Juliet described. Dance the night garden in the Spring River, romantic white tulle like the moonlight, a pair of Valentine's aware that certain , the overall situation here to the middle part of this, is to promote the climax, they secretly married, it seems that the line is edy but to a big turn. No one would have thought that after a few hours in their marriage, because Romeo killed Juliet's cousin and friend to the homicide. He was banished, and Juliet great sorrow, because her cousin, as her husband. Misfortunes e singly, is prepared to "dedicated to the death of virginity", she was betrothed to the parents a free hand to the count. That night, Romeo Juliet secretly climbed room. She seems to be his farewell, he had to leave in the morning. Not only is the male and female, that is, my readers, it is hoped that the arrival of dawn, I hope on behalf of the nightingale will never sing the night of tunes indirectly, on behalf of the dawn lark off.

I am particularly fond of sleeping pills before Juliet and Romeo in her suicide by taking poison in the tomb before the big monologue. Which is extremely similar to the last sentence. Juliet: "I did the cup for you!" Romeo: "To my love, I did the cup!" Juliet in this medicine is not clear what is in the end, what role will be before it took a drink, she love for her, she plans to do the Cup. Then she sleeping past. However,to Romeo not to send out the letter, he with grief and madness, with poison, came to the tomb. The homicide count, the original Romeo gentle how crazy it is for love, he is like drinking poison, like there is no difference between an ordinary beverage. Just then, Juliet woke up, she saw his wife dead in the side, also holding handsCup, is pulled out his dagger sad, devadasi the situation. The time difference between hateful, cursing in my mind, if Juliet nice to wake up as soon as possible.

A pair of lover's death, in exchange for the integration of the two families, they became friends. The city of Verona Romeo and Juliet put up a statue of gold, a symbol of freedom, romantic love, it finally broke through the barriers of the secular to break the family's hatred and conflicts. A pair of young people to sacrifice in return for the spring between the two families.

Shakespeare shows his dramatic skill freely in Romeo and Juliet, providing intense moments of shift between comedy and tragedy. Before Mercutio's death in Act three, the play is largely a comedy. After his accidental demise, the play suddenly becomes very serious and takes on more of a tragic tone. Still, the fact that Romeo is banished, rather than executed, offers a hope that things will work out. When Friar Lawrence offers Juliet a plan to reunite her with Romeo the audience still has a reason to believe that all will end well. They are in a "breathless state of suspense" by the opening of the last scene in the tomb: If Romeo is delayed long enough for the Friar to arrive, he and Juliet may yet be saved. This only makes it all the more tragic when everything falls apart in the end.

Shakespeare also uses subplots to offer a clearer view of the actions of the main characters, and provide an axis around which the main plot turns. For example, when the play begins, Romeo is in love with Rosaline, who has refused all of his advances. Romeo's infatuation with her stands in obvious contrast to his later love for Juliet. This provides a comparison through which the audience can see the seriousness of Romeo and Juliet's love and marriage. Paris' love for Juliet also sets up a contrast between Juliet's feelings for him and her feelings for Romeo. The formal language she uses around Paris, as well as the way she talks about him to her Nurse, show that her feelings clearly lie with Romeo. Beyond this, the sub-plot of the Montague-Capulet feud overarches the whole play, providing an atmosphere of hate that is the main contributor to the play's tragic end.

Shakespeare uses a large variety of poetic forms throughout the play. He begins with a 14-line prologue in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet, spoken by a Chorus. Most of Romeo and Juliet is, however, written in blank verse, and much of it in strict iambic pentameter, with less rhythmic variation than in most of Shakespeare's later

plays. In choosing forms, Shakespeare matches the poetry to the character who uses it. Friar Lawrence, for example, uses sermon and sententiaeforms, and the Nurse uses a unique blank verse form that closely matches colloquial speech. Each of these forms is also moulded and matched to the emotion of the scene the character occupies. For example, when Romeo talks about Rosaline earlier in the play, he uses the Petrarchan sonnet form. Petrarchan sonnets were often used by men at the time to exaggerate the beauty of women who were impossible for them to attain, as in Romeo's situation with Rosaline. This sonnet form is also used by Lady Capulet to describe Count Paris to Juliet as a handsome man. When Romeo and Juliet meet, the poetic form changes from the Petrarchan (which was becoming archaic in Shakespeare's day) to a then more contemporary sonnet form, using "pilgrims" and "saints" as metaphors. Finally, when the two meet on the balcony, Romeo attempts to use the sonnet form to pledge his love, but Juliet breaks it by saying "Dost thou love me?" By doing this, she searches for true expression, rather than a poetic exaggeration of their love. Juliet uses monosyllabic words with Romeo, but uses formal language with Paris. Other forms in the play include an epithalamium by Juliet, a rhapsody in Mercutio's Queen Mab speech, and an elegy by Paris. Shakespeare saves his prose style most often for the common people in the play, though at times for other characters, such as Mercutio.

Montague and Capulet are two big families in the same city. There are feuds between them so armed clash occurs often. Romeo is a son of Montague, 17 years old. He has both moral integrity and great learning that people around all like him. One day, Rosaline, the girl he loves is sent to convent. He is extremely sad. So his friends advise him to sneak into Capulet’s dinner party to find more beautiful girls. Then he wears a mask and sneaks into the banquet with his friends.

However, he is deeply attracted by Capulet’s only daughter, Juliet, in the party. Juliet is the major part that night. As a 13-year-old girl, she is beautiful as a fairy. Romeo showed his admiration to Juliet. And Juliet also has a soft spot for Romeo. But they don’t know each other’s identification that time. When the case is entirely cleared, Romeo still can’t free him from his admiration to Juliet. He climbs over the walls to Capulet’s orchard at deep night. Just the moment he hears Juliet can’t refrain from calling his name by the window. Obviously, they fell in love with each other at the first time.

The next day, Romeo goes to the monastery nearby to see the priest and asks for his help. The priest agrees to give him a hand because in the priest’s opinion, maybe it will be an approach to ease the two families’ contradiction if succeeds. Romeo calls Juliet to the monastery by Juliet’swet nurse. They get married with the priest’s presiding over. That noon, Romeo comes across Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. Tybalt is about to combat with Romeo. Though Romeo doesn’t want to have a combat, his

friend (a pacifist) thinks it’s a disgrace for Romeo. so that friend has to fight with Tybalt. Finally Tybalt seizes the opportunity to kill the friend. Romeo is rather angry and takes his sword to avenge for his friend. As a result, he kills Tybalt.

The governor of this city decides to banish Romeo and orders that if he comes back he will be soon sentenced to death. Juliet feels very sad. She loves Romeo so much. Romeo doesn’t want to leave. Until he is persuaded by the priest he agrees to leave temporarily. That night he goes to Juliet’s room by stealthy and enjoys the newly-married night with his dear. The next morning he has to begin his life of banishment before the sunset. As soon as Romeo leaves, the noble Count Paris comes to propose to Juliet. Capulet is very satisfied with him and command Juliet to get marry the next Thursday.

Juliet goes to ask the priest to help find ways. The priest gives her a kind of drug, taking which will has an effect to make her like dead but revive after 24 hours. The priest promises to send somebody to call back Romeo and excavate the grave as soon as possible, then she can go far away with Romeo. Juliet takes the drug at the night before marriage as the priest has told her. The next day marriage turns into funeral naturally.

The priest immediately sends a person to tell Romeo about the plan. However, Romeo heard the message of Juliet’s death before that person arrives. He comes t o Juliet’s “corpse” at midnight and kills the Count Paris who tries preventing him. He excavates the grave and after giving Juliet a kiss he takes the poison completely he has brought. He dies lying beside Juliet. Just the minute, the priest comes in a hurry, only to find Romeo and Count Paris are both dead. Meanwhile, Juliet wakes up. As more and more people gathering together, the priest escapes, leaving Juliet alone. Seeing Romeo being dead, Juliet doesn’t want to live alone in the world but find any mor e poison. Then she pulls out Romeo’s sword and thrusts at herself, dying on Romeo’s body. Parents of the two families all come. The priest tells them the story about Romeo and Juliet. Theparents regain consciousness after losing their offspring. But it’s t oo late. After that, the two families get rid of their feud and found a statue for Romeo and Juliet in the city.

Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare’s famous dramas. The conflict

of it is the love between Romeo and Juliet and the opposition between the two families. It displayed the sharp contradiction between free love and feudal influence. Where the story took place is the city of Verona. It was actually an artistic reappearance of the social reality in British in the end of 16th century, a period of great prosperity ruled by Queen Elizabeth. On one hand, the prince stood for the monarchicalpower which was widely popular with civilians. On the other hand, the feud between Montague and Capulet stood for the feudal influence extending from Middle Ages which competed with each other. But times are going forward. Offspring of the two powers fell in love with each other at the first time in a party unexpectedly. And families’ hatred and personal love formed the huge contradiction of drama. Rome o and Juliet all overlooked families’ hatred and despised that it just was the meaningless surname that interfered with their combination.

True love made them brave and fearless. They got married secretly in the

monastery and finally didn’t stint to commit suicide for love to resist feudal influence and feudal arranged marriage. They composed a most soul-stirring and emotional love song.

In the end of the drama, Montague and Capulet eventually buried the hatred due to the two loves’ death and founded a statue with golden for them in Verona. It means the victory of the idea which the two young dedicated for. They would be the model of peopl e in future. The old Capulet acknowledged in contrition, “The two lovers have fallen pitiful victims to our hatred.” But people who died in the drama were more than the two and families involved were more than the two. Just as the prince of Verona said, “You were all punished.” However, in the same time, Romeo’s and Juliet’s death has proved the victory of humanism’s new values which they stood for. It also freed the society from meaninglesshatred and dispute. In Verona, people would learn a pretty importan t lesson from Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy: love is stronger than hatred and it can’t be destroyed or conquered even by death!

Capulet and Montague are two family feuds. Romeo, son of Montague family, once slipped into Capulet’s family banquet, where he met Juliet at first time, then they fallen in love with each other. After they knew the truth of their family feuds, they still could not get rid of their love. Under the auspices of friar Laurence, they got married. In a fight, Romeo killed Tybalt and was expelled. When Romeo just left, Paris asked Juliet again to marry him, and decided to hold the wedding on Thursday. Then Juliet asked priest for help, the priest gave her a drug which has an effect like death. But Romeo got a mistaken message about that Juliet was dead. Then he came to Juliet's tomb and drank poison then dead. When Juliet waked up and saw Romeo was dead, she did not want to live alone so she killed herself with Romeo’s sword. Their parents were coming, and the priest told them about their love story. The two parents were sober after lost their children. Since then, two families ridded their resentment and built a golden statue for each of Romeo and Juliet.

Unfailing love has always been the eternal theme of literary creation. Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare's novel, is the perfect interpretation of the true meaning of love. This is the reason why I choose to read this novel.

In China, there is also a similar legend of the true love --- Butterfly Lovers. I will compare these two stories, and come up with some ideas of mind.

These two novels have one thing in common --- they both describe a pair of beloved couple. Under the pressure of their family and social oppression, they all chose to die for love to express their loyalty of love. However, they also have a lot of differences. Firstly, for personal character, Romeo and Juliet are active, outgoing and enthusiastic; while the two protagonists of Butterfly Lovers are passive, introverted and implicit. These different characters directly lead them to express love at different ways. For the love pattern, Romeo and Juliet loved each other at first sight, their love is passionate and exaggerated; while Shanbo and Yingtai’s love is more euphemistic

and peaceful. Secondly, the conflicts and contradictions of two stories are different. In Romeo and Juliet, the Montague family and the Capulet family’s conflicts are directly, which like a waterfalls, directly attack of Romeo and Juliet; but on the Butterfly Lovers are indirectly, like the ravine stream down slowly, which slowly penetrate to their love. Finally, although the two plays are tragedies and the two pairs of lovers are ended in death. But Romeo and Juliet’s death is more realistic; while Shanbo and Yingtai turned into a butterfly, which is with myth ical…... These differences give a different feeling of the ending, Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy giving a sensual enjoyment, while Butterfly Lovers is giving a psychic experience.

In a word, the most important factor causing these different is different cultures. Westerners are passionate who pursuit of secular life, and they believe in love. They have a strong sense of self. Chinese people are implicit and lack of self- awareness. Just because the differences between East and West cultural, so that the performance of the hero, the ways of pursuing love and the methods to fight against the difficulties are really different and have its characteristic.

Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life; Whole misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents’ strife. The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love, And the continuance of their parents’ rage, Which, but their children’s end, nought could remove, Is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage’; The which if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

First scene Friar came to the centre of the stage Friar: (quite solemn) Attention please, I am friar. There are two clans in our region, one is “Montague” (Then Montague comes back from the left side of the stage, holding up a signboard to show his identity—Montague), the other is “Capulet”(Capulet emerges from the right side, with similar actions) Friar: However, the two clans are in constant conflicts, even to the degree of fighting with each other upon encountering with the other side.(the moment when each of their eyes falls on their counterparts, they throw away their signboard, pull hammer from their back, gallop towards the other side and then fight with each other. Then other performers stand in line with their mouths mantled by hands, so much surprised as to fall down backwards). Friar: (dodge himself from the fights) Their feud has greatly influenced the social order of our city, so I have to come up with a solution, stimulated by a ball held by the Capulet (Lights become faint, lower the curtain)
