It’s not what you do,It’s how you get there 1.How does the author start her article?

The author starts her article by contrast. “’It’s not what you do ,It’s how you get there’’presents us a negative definition to show her point.

2.Do you wish to be defined or judged by your profession or status?

Why or Why not?

I don’t want to be defined by my profession or status. Just like the highly capable nurse who still laments her family did not have the money to send her to university, I’m very regretful that I did not have not only the chance , but also the rights to choose what I really want to do even from high school . In high school, I was forced to learn dancing because I was supposed to go to a famous university, but I don’t like dance, then I failed to live up their expectation to go to a famous university. With the strong desire of being an unconstrained traveler, now I’m an undergraduate with my parents’strong expectation of being a “stable”teacher with stable salary. I don’t want to be a teacher .But I’ll obey their wishes.

I don’t want to judged by my profession as a teacher (maybe five years later),it doesn’t mean who am I ,I am still an unconstrained traveler in my bone.

3. Why do many people end up doing what they did not intend to do

when they were young?

People end up doing what they did not intend to do when they were young for some different factors. Not steered to the right university course or had no clue what he/she wanted to do that time; have no money to fulfill his/her idea about what they are interested in or they just do something for fun but gain an unbelievable success…some people choose their work merely for a living .If he/she likes drawing, but he/she draws not very well that he /she can’t sell it. He/She had to give it up to choose another profession for a living.

4. What is most people professional regret?

In our whole life, we have many things to regret. If you ask people about their professional regrets, they usually involve something they didn’t do, as opposed to something they did.

If you are a businessman, you maybe regret that you haven’t learn how to play music instruments. If you are a writer, you maybe regret that you have not to learn how to skiing…

There are so many regretting things in our life what we should do is to prevent it happen again.

5. What kinds of parents does the university haul in at students’career day?

I do believe that most of us are not satisfied with our major. Because our parents always want us to do the things that they didn’t do it or

failed to do it or they are narrow spectrum. In fact, they do not know which one is best, but when they heard others said which job is well they will take it seriously and ask their child to choose it.

I don’t know whether you have such experience or not ,at least it’s true to me .before I went to college ,I did not want to choose English as my major but my parents said it’s suitable for a girl and others said it has a bright future. So I choose the English as my major because of me parents. I don’t let them down.

6. What is the most important thing, according to the author, for a student when he/she is in university?

In our life, we have plenty of things to be done, especially when we are in university. Y ou may spend the whole weekends on shopping or suffer the internet. In you mind, these things are the most important. But after you graduated you must regret that you waste the beautiful time in you life.

According to author, the most important thing a student should do is “a big appetite for learning, and just a little of bravery” I agree with the author. As a student, study is a priority thing. We should put it in the first place.

7. What function is the final example in illustrating the author’s point of view?

In the first, the author raise the question “It’s Not What Y ou Do, It’s

How Y ou Got There” then she explained it step by step.

In my opinion, the function of the final example is expressed the author’s view “do exactly what you want” and put emphasis on it.
