(8)More rest and fresh air

During the day we work and play, and at night we sleep. Our bodies rest while we sleep. In the morning we are ready to work and play again. Our bodies grow most while we are asleep. Children usually need sleep when they are tired. W e can get better at our lessons after we have had plenty of rest. Boys and girls need ten hours of sleep ever night when they are eight or nine years old. Our bodies need plenty of air when we sleep.

If we do not get enough fresh air, we will be tired when we wake up. While in bed we must not cover our heads. Our lungs need to get enough fresh air. If we open our windows at night, we can have plenty of fresh air. Cool air is better than warm air. Boys and girls must get plenty of sleep if they want to be strong.

The moon is the earth’s nearest neighbor. It’s only about 240,000 miles away from our planet.

In the sky the moon looks as big as the sun. But it really is not. It looks as big as the sun because it is much closer to us. The moon is not even as big as the earth.

The moon doesn’t give any light at all. It just reflects the light from the sun. The sun gives a very strong light, so we can see much better in the daytime than at night.

The moon has day and night just as the earth, but each of its days and nights is about two of our weeks long. During the day the temperature goes up almost the boiling point. At night, the temperature goes down to far, far below freezing point.

Another name for “moon” is “satellite”. The moon is the satellite of the earth.
