Students work very hard but many are unhappy. They feel heavy pressure(压力) from their parents. Most students are always being told by their parents to study harder so that they can have a wonderful life. Though this may be a good idea for those very clever students, it can have terrible results for many students because they have difficulties in their studies.

As it is reported, some students killed themselves. Some join the groups of trouble-makers. Many of them have tried very hard at school but have failed in the exams and it makes their parents lose hope. Such students feel that they are hated by everyone else, they meet and they don’t want to go to school any longer, so they become dropouts.

It is surprising that though most parents worried about their children, they do not help them in any way. Many parents feel that they are not able to help their children. To make matters worse, a lot of parents send their children to those schools opening in the evenings and on weekends. Those schools only help students to pass exams. It is a great surprise that almost three quarters of middle school students have been to such kind of schools.

Many schools usually have rules about everything, from the students’ hair to their clothes and the things in their school bags. In fact, such strict rules may hurt the feelings of the students. Almost 40% of the students said that no one had taught them how to get on with others, how to tell right from wrong, how to show love to others, even to their parents.

It was over two months before Christmas when 9-year-old Mary told her father and me that she wanted a new bike. Her old Barbi bike was too old and it often needed repairing. As Christmas came nearer, her dream for a bike seemed to disappear, for sh e didn’t mention it again.

Then much to our surprise, on December 24th, she said that she really wanted a bike as the Christmas present more than anything else. We didn’t know what to do. It was too late. Suddenly my husband came up with an idea. “What if I make a little bike out of the clay (泥土) and write a note that she could trade in (交换) the model bike for a real one after Christmas?” So he spent the next 5 hours working on a small clay bike. On Christmas morning, we were very excited and waited for Mary to open the little box with the beautiful red and white bike and the note. She opened the box and read the note loudly.
