In 2013,27-year-old Mason Wartman left his job on Wall Street and opened Rosa's Fresh Pizza in Philadelphia, which sells slices of pizza for only $1.To many of his friends,it meant the ending of a brilliant career,but the man was simply trying to achieve a different sort of greatness with his pizza shop.

The shop is operated by a "pay it forward" system—customers who walk in to can also donate a slice for a homeless person.In this way,about 30 to 40 homeless people are able to eat for free at Rosa's every single day.In the past one year,the shop has served 8,500 free slices of pizza to homeless people.

Even before the pay-it-forward system,Rosa's Pizza always gave away free slices to hungry homeless people in the neighborhood.But one day last March,a customer asked if he could "pay it forward" and buy a slice for the next homeless person who walked in.Wartman immediately agreed,and then put up a sticky(粘的)note on the wall. Anyone who was hungry or broke could

use the sticky note for a free slice.

Word quickly spread and before long,more and more customers came in with similar offers.Before long,the walls were covered with over 500 sticky notes.Ever since that first customer paid it forward,over 8,500 slices have been given away to feed those in need.

The homeless pizza recipients(接受者)can even leave their own messages on the wall expressing gratitude or motivation.One of the notes from a homeless customer at the restaurant read,"I just want to thank everyone that donated to Rosa's;it gave me a place to eat every day and the opportunity to get back on my feet.I shall start a new job tomorrow!"
