Ideally, of course, the expression of editorial
opinion should be limited on the editorial page
and the news articles should be objective
— telling the fact as complete as possible. 1.__________
It is a social prejudice that the work of street
cleaners is thought to be dirty and shame by 1.__________
most people.
It is true that their work may be dirty, but not
necessary shameful. What would our streets 1.__________
be like if nobody cleared away the rubbish?
Used wise, science may increase our energy and 1.__________
food supply, improve our health, expand our joy
and extend our lives.
该句的完整结构是“if it is used wisely, science may…

Computer analyzed marketing reports can help
deciding which products to emphasize now, which
to develop for the future, and which to be dropped. 1.__________
本句中三个平行成分which products to emphasize now, which to develop for the future, and which to be dropped 结构模式应该一致,均采用不定式主动语态,因而to be dropped 应改为to drop .

hours were from sunrise to sunset, pay was awful,
and working conditions being poor and dangerous. 1.__________
在该句中,working hours were from sunrise to sunset, pay was awful, and working conditions being poor and dangerous 三个小分句为并列结构关系,因此必须保持成分和结构上的一致性,故应该将being 改为were .
例4
However, a second person thought that this was
more a question of civilized behavior as good 1.__________
manners.
“ more…than… 多”的意思;没有“ more…as…

He can't remember what he once knows.
She was very angry at not telling the truth when she listened to the account.
We strongly suggest that Henry is told about his physical condition as soon as possible. 句中动词suggest 之后的从句应用虚拟语气,故“ is ”应该“ be ”或“ should be ”。
1These newly wedded couples usually came here and meet
1.__________
together to hold parties.
2Computer analyzed marketing reports can help deciding which products to emphasize now, which to develop for the future, and which to be dropped. 1.__________
本句中三个平行成分which products to emphasize now ,which to develop for the future 和which to be dropped 结构模式应该一致,均采用不定式主动语态,因而to be dropped 应改为to drop .
例3In the first place, the scientist at once put some
kind of material into the liquid which has already 1.__________ securely obtained.
4Did they gone there yesterday, they would have discovered 1.__________ the truth.
Had .

independence: the entire family, mother, father,
children, even grandparents live in a small house
and working together to support each other. 1.__________

英语词汇中有很多词在拼写上、语义上很相似,如assure/ensure ,rise/arise/raise ,effect/affect ,但是它们的用法却迥然不同。
1His persistence was awarded when the car finally started.
1.__________
2Deciding how much discomfort and risk we are prepared to put up with in the name of better health is a highly personal matter, not a decision we should remain to doctors 1.__________ alone.
3Of course the press means more than newspaper. A vast
amount of magazines are published, aimed at readers 1.__________interested in all sorts of subjects.

Thomas Malthus published his “Essay on the
Principle of Population”almost 200 years ago. Ever since then,
forecasters have being warning that worldwide famine was (S1)
just around the next corner. The fast-growing population’s
demand for food, they warned, would soon exceed their (S2)
supply, leading to widespread food shortages and starvation.
But in reality, the world’s total grain harvest has risen
steadily over the years. Except for relative isolated trouble (S3)
spots like present-day Somalia, and occasional years of
good harvests, the world’s food crisis has remained just (S4)
around the corner. Most experts believe this can continue
even as if the population doubles by the mid-21st century, (S5)
although feeding 10 billion people will not be easy for
politics, economic and environmental reasons. Optimists (S6)
point to concrete examples of continued improvements
in yield. In Africa, by instance, improved seed, more (S7)
fertilizer and advanced growing practices have more than
double corn and wheat yields in an experiment. Elsewhere, (S8)
rice experts in the Philippines are producing a plant with few (S9)
stems and more seeds. There is no guarantee that plant
breeders can continue to develop new, higher-yielding
crop, but most researchers see their success to date as reason (S10)
for hope.

procedures for hiring and maintain a diverse workforce. The (S3)
underlying reason for the change is that for information to be
fair, appropriate, and subjective, it should be reported by the (S4)
same kind of population that reads it.
A diversity committee composed of reporters, editors, and
photographers meets regularly to value the Seattle Times’(S5)
content and to educate the rest of the newsroom staff about
diversity issues. In an addition, the paper instituted a content (S6)
audit (审查) that evaluates the frequency and manner of
representation of woman and people of color in photographs. (S7)
Early audits showed that minorities were pictured
far too infrequently and were pictured with a disproportion
ate number of negative articles. The audit results from (S8)
improvement in the frequency of majority representation and (S9)
their portrayal in neutral or positive situations. And, with a (S10)
result, the Seattle Times has improved as a newspaper.
The diversity training and content audits helped the Seattle Times Company
to win the Personnel Journal Optimal Award for excellence in managing change.

2017年6月大学英语六级考试真题及答案解析(第一套) Part I Writing (30 minutes) Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend a vocational college or a university, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. Whether to Attend a Vocational College or a University? It’s an undisputable truth that virtually all high school graduates will encounter the choices between a vocational college and a university. And when it comes to this question, students’ ideas are not cut from the same cloth. In point of which to choose and what to be taken into consideration, my advices are as follow. In the first place, we should be conscious of the fact that both of the two choices have its own superiorities. For instance, a vocational college specializes in cultivating human resources with practical capabilities; while a university serves as the cradle of academic researchers in different fields. Then it does follow that high school graduates should have a clear picture of themselves. That is to say, they should know their merits and demerits and their choices must give play to their strengths whilst circumvent weaknesses. In addition, interest is the best teacher and it’s also the premise of learning on one’s own initiative. Thus interest must be taken into account because it can not only decide how far one can reach academically and professionally but also how happy and fulfilled one will be. In brief, all above just goes to show that there really is no one-size-fits-all answer for the question. The key lies in a clear cognition, accurate self-positioning and the interest of oneself. Only then can every one find a right path that works best for us. Part II Listening Comprehension (30 minutes) Section A Directions: In this section, you will hear two long conversations. For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on the importance of building trust between business and consumers. You can cite examples to illustrate your views. 150-200 words. Without a doubt, a mutually-trusted relation between businesses and consumers is important for the two parties. First of all, though business is objective, cooperation is relatively subjective. Only when a consumer believe in what a businessman is selling, he or she could decide to buy something from the man. In reality, I have seen too many consumers purchase or refuse one commodity only because they like or dislike the salesman who they meet, especially when they are in a bad mood. Secondly, when one businessman consider that a customer trusts him, he would feel honored and satisfied thereby giving more preference to the customer. Naturally, when one businessman offers the best quality goods and the best prices to a customer, the customer has no excuse to refuse the businessman. Once such relation informed, both the two parties gain profit from it Hence, both businesses and consumers should work together to form a reciprocal relation. PartⅢReading Section A
2017年6月大学英语六级考试真题及答案解析(第三套完整版) Part I Writing (30 minutes) Directions: Suppose you are asked to give advice on whether to attend college at home or abroad, write an essay to state your opinion. You are required to write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. Whether to Attend College at Home or Abroad? Currently, with studying abroad gains mounting popularity among people, there is a heated debate about whether to attend college at home or abroad. Opinions on this topic vary from person to person. Some see more benefits in studying at home while others claim that studying abroad is a more ideal choice as it?s more challenging. Personally, I am a strong favorer of the latter view. Listed below are the reasons for my advice. First of all, attending college abroad provides an opportunity to broaden one?s experience and mind. You can acquire cross-cultural experiences and gain new perspectives on your chosen field of study. In addition, studying abroad helps you to polish your social skills; you can make friends with different people with different background. Thirdly, overseas studying is conducive to the formation of an independent, autonomous and tenacious personality, which will ultimately benefit the achievement of our life goals. Just as an old saying goes: “It is better to travel thousand miles than to read ten thousand books.” Then studying abroad can not only enable us to reap in our books, but also in our trips. And this is why attending college abroad is a preferable selection for me. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre. Passage One Questions 21 to 25 are based on the following passage. In 1985 when a Japan Air Lines (JAL) jet crashed, its president, Yasumoto Takagi, called each victim’s family to apologize, and then promptly resigned. And in 1987, when a subsidiary of Toshiba sole sensitive military technology to the former Soviet Union, the chairman of Toshiba gave up his post. These executive actions, which Toshiba calls “the highest form of apology,”may seem bizarre to US managers. No one at Boeing resigned after the JAL crash, which may have been caused by a faulty Boeing repair. The difference between the two business cultures centers around different definitions of delegation. While US executives give both responsibility and authority to their employees, Japanese executives delegate only authority—the responsibility is still theirs. Although the subsidiary that sold the sensitive technology to the Soviets had its own management, the Toshiba top executives said they “must take personal responsibility for not creating an atmosphere throughout the Toshiba group that would make such activity unthinkable, even in an independently run subsidiary.” Such acceptance of community responsibility is not unique to businesses in Japan. School principals in Japan have resigned when their students committed major crimes after school hours. Even if they do not quit, Japanese executives will often accept primary responsibility in other ways, such as taking the first pay cut when a company gets into financial trouble. Such personal sacrifices, even if they are largely symbolic, help to create the sense of community and employee loyalty that is crucial to the Japanese way of doing business. Harvard Business School professor George Lodge calls the ritual acceptance of blame “almost a feudal (封建的) way of purging (清除) the community of dishonor,”and to some in the United States, such resignations look cowardly. However, in an era in which both business and governmental leaders seem particularly good at evading responsibility, many US managers would probably welcome an infusion (灌输) of the Japanese sense of responsibility, If, for instance,
