One of the most popular American singers of 20th century was Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley made the music called rock’ n’ roll popular around the world. He sold millions of records and made many successful films, and he helped change the direction of popular music in 1960's. Elvis Presley was born in 1935 in a small town called Tupelo, in Mississippi in the southern United States; he came from a very poor family. There was something different about it. It was country and western music, but it also sounded a little like the music which black people used to sing in the American South. It was called blues.

Most people want to know how things are made. They honestly admit, however, that they hardly know a thing when it comes to understanding how a piece of music is made. Country music is one of the most popular kinds of music in the United States today because it is about simple but strong human feelings and events—love, sadness, good times, and bad times.
