54-year-old Abdul has a special job. He has been working as a living statue (活体雕像) for over three decades, standing perfectly still for six hours a day and resisting peo ple’s attempts to make him move or smile, anything that proves he is a living person.
Abdul, known as “India’s Statue Man”, has been performing his daily routine ever since 1985, soon after getting a job as a security guard. His boss had recently traveled to the UK, where he was so impressed by the statue-like members of the Royal Guard outside Buckingham Palace that he wanted to do something similar back home. So he had his guards receive three months of training, where they would sit perfectly still f or around four hours. They weren’t allowed to talk or smile, eat,
drink, or even shoo away a fly if it sat on their faces. In the end, Abdul proved the best of the group, so he got the strange job.
Abdul isn’t the only person in the world acting as a l iving statue, but what makes him special is the fact that he can do it for as long as six hours without even blinking his eyes. Once, a $ 155 prize was put up for anyone who can make him move a muscle. But try as they might, no one has ever succeeded. Actually, Abdul tries to move about as much as he can in his spare time, and only eats healthy home-cooked food, to keep his body in shape. But he claims yoga has been the biggest help. In the 32 years, Abdul has become a celebrity in India and other Asian countries. Many Bollywood celebrities have come to witness this living statue and try to finally make him move, but none have succeeded.
Abdul earns about 10,000 rupees ($ 156) a month, which is enough to support his family, but definitely not enough to e ncourage his children to follow in his footsteps. People usually visit cafes to ease themselves of their tiredness and keep themselves from falling asleep, but Mr. Healing, a popular cafe chain in South Korea actually does the opposite. Customers can come in, order a drink, lie down a comfortable massage chair, and take a nap.
Many Koreans suffer from a lack of sleep as a result of overworking, so any opportunity to relax and even take a nap is greatly appreciated. Mr. Healing is the perfect place to go when you’re on a short work or school break and you need to catch up on sleep. The cafe offers massage periods in various modes, depending on how much time you have and how you choose to spend it.
The 20-minute session is priced at $ 3.5, the 30-minute massage costs $ 7, and the 50-minute session is $ 9, all of which also include a drink. Once you make your choice, you are taken to the “healing center”. You are asked to take off your shoes as well as any jewelry that might damage the chairs, after which you can choose a massage mode, from “stretch” or “sleep”.You can start with stretch for a few minutes, and then switch to sleep if you want to take a short nap. After it comes to an end, you are taken back to the cafe area to enjoy a coffee or one of the many other refreshing drinks on the menu.
Mr. Healing cafes are so popular in Korea that customers are advised to make reservations in advance to be sure that a massage chair is available. “I have to sit on a chair and stare at a computer monitor all day due to my job, the healing room was truly effective to relieve tiredness and stress from weekdays,” said Park Hye-sun, a 24-year-old officer.

A cheetah (猎豹) can run 70 miles per hour. Blobfish (水滴鱼) don’t have any bones. These are facts I’ve learned from my 5-year-old son after he watched some networks, shows. He is greatly interested in scientific facts, so I was surprised the other day when I mentioned climate change.
After a few more questions, I discovered that he’s never heard any of his favorite science shows mention climate change. It is strange, because climate change is one of the most important environmental issues of our time. My son can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about red pandas, except for the fact that their existence is being threatened by the changing climate.
I reached out to PBS Kids, Nickelodeon, and Disney Junior to see if there was any truth to his claim. I was told that except an episode (一段情节) of Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins called The Big Storm, none of the three networks’ shows has ever discussed the causes of climate change on our

According to Maria, spokeswoman for PBS Kids, it’s because the network feels that focusing on foundational sc ience concepts is the most age-appropriate way to serve our audience. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather my kid learn a little about the melting polar ice caps than other things.
And kids can handle climate change. Even young children are able to understand the basic idea. More importantly, they’re able to begin taking action to slow down global warming. My guess is that the networks are afraid that promoting the science on a politically controversial (争议性的) issue will lead them to lose viewers or a dvertisers. But if that’s true, and they’re choosing their bottom line over the education of America’s children, that’s a real shame. Kids need to learn about the issue that threatens their planet if they’re ever going to feel inspired to save it.

Bottle Cap Alley is a special roadside attraction located at the north edge of the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas. 36
