I was in the middle of a sweet dream when a noise frightened me. Bam! Bam! It sounded like a hammer pounding on a tough nail. Bam! Bam! BAM! Who could be hammering at three in the morning? It must be Charlie again, making another invention.

Just as I was putting on my slippers and clothes, the noise changed. I sat at the edge of my bed and listened. Tick! Tick! Tick! It reminded me of my first wristwatch. Its regular pace had always helped me fall asleep.

I started dozing off(打瞌睡),dangerously leaning to the left, when the ticking stopped. It was now replaced by a buzz, similar to the noise coming from a beehive in midsummer, only louder. I trembled. I’m allergic to bees! Even just thinking about it or hearing a bee like sound makes me swell.

"That’s it!"I shouted, now wide awake, "I can’t take it anymore!"I marched to the next apartment and knocked. My neighbor immediately opened the door. His curly brown hair was sticking up every which way. He wore baggy striped pants and a loose raspberry shirt.

"Hi, there, Lucy! Wh at’s up ?"he asked.

I pointed at my noiseless watch. "Do you know what time it is?"

He grabbed my arm and glanced at my timepiece. "Oh, my! I didn’t realize it was that late. I’m busy working on a machine that can cure insomnia(失眠). It’s almost finished. You want to see it?"I should have known. His last invention was supposed to get rid of bad smells, but it was powered by rotten eggs.

A. Disappointing.

B. Exciting.

C. Amazing.

D. Satisfying. 27. What can we learn from about Charlie’s last machine in the last paragraph?

B. It makes a loud noise.

C. It will give off terrible smells while working.

D. It is the last machine that can cure insomnia.

C

When dogs get lonely, they like keeping themselves busy by making a big mess around the house, and that doesn’t really sit well with their owners. That’s why one German radio host, who also happens to be a dog owner came up with the idea for a program designed to relax dogs and make them feel like they aren’t alone.

When 30-year-old Stephan Stock, a radio host at RadioTon, in Germany’s Baden-Württemberg region, announced the creation of a program aimed at dogs, everyone thought it was just a clever April Fools’ Day trick. However, it wasn’t. For the past three and a half months, "Hallo Hasso"has been pumping out music for lonely dogs both on the radio and online.

Stock says he was inspired to create the special program by his pet dog, Layla, who would sometimes get so bored when left alone that she would keep herself busy by making a big mess around the house. He and his colleagues at RadioTon started researching what kind of music usually appeals to dogs, and learned that it should have as little drum and electric guitar as possible, and should be very slow.

"It’s not about keeping dogs quiet,"Stock said about Hallo Hasso. "It’s more about the dog feeling he’s not alone."He adds that Layla isn’t as restless since listening to Hallo Hasso, and has become relatively quiet, even letting him take a nap(打盹) to the music from the radio.

Hallo Hasso is only available in Baden-Württember g, via radio, but if you’d like to see if it can calm your four-legged pet, the program can also be accessed online here. Just press the "play"arrow at the top of the page and let the music work its magic. If this doesn’t work, there’s always Dog TV.

28. What’s Stock’s purpose of creating the program?

A. To comfort lonely dogs.

B. To keep dogs interested in music.

C. To prevent dogs causing damage.

D. To appeal to audience to take care of dogs.

29. What did people think of the program in the beginning?

A. It was just a joke.

B. It would be very popular.

C. It would be a special program.

D. It wouldn’t work on lonely dogs.

30. What inspired Stock to create Hallo Hasso for dogs?

A. A former radio program.

B. His own life experience.

C. His colleagues’ suggestion.

D. A slow music with little drum and electric guitar.

31. Which column does the passage most probably come from?

A. Education.

B. Science.

C. Travel.

Ever since gray squirrels arrived in the U.K. from North America over a century ago, numbers of Great Britain’s native red squirrels have begun to dwindle. Now scientists may have a clue as to why: Gray squirrels are better at problem-solving when it’s time for dinner.

During the past several decades, the population of the red squirrels has grown especially concerning, leading the Red Squirrel Survival Trust to project that the species could go extinct in the U.K. within the next decade if numbers don’t get reversed.

To figure out how gray squirrels are outcompeting their British cousins, University of Exeter squirrel behavior expert Pizza Ka Yee Chow and her colleagues tested the squirrels’ problem-solving abilities using two different puzzles, one simple and the other more complex. If the squirrels solved the puzzles, they got a tasty hazelnut(榛子). The easy puzzle simply required the squirrel to open a clear plastic flap to get the food. The difficult puzzle had several more steps, including operating a lever(控制杆), before the squirrel got its treat.

Both species did equally well at the simple puzzle, although they used different strategies. Gray squirrels tackled(处理) the puzzle with short, repeated attempts, often changing up their tactics when they tried again. The red squirrels made fewer attempts but spent more time with the puzzle.

The difference emerged with the more challenging puzzle. Although 91 percent of the gray squirrels solved it, only 68 percent of the red squirrels did. Chow chalked the difference up to the gray squirrel’s ability to try new strategies to tackle the challenging task.

"Gray squirrels have a pretty varied diet and are very good at finding food wherever it might be,"says Thaddeus McRae, an animal behavior expert at Lee University. "This kind of flexibility is especially important when they’re competing against other species of squirrels, making them very successful at invading."

Over time, this ingenuity could have helped gray squirrels find better, more nutritious food, giving them an advantage in making more squirrels.

32. What does the underlined word "dwindle"in the first paragraph mean?

A. Threaten.

B. Change.

C. Decrease.

D. Concern.

33. Pizza Ka Yee Chow and her colleagues did the test to _____________.

A. save red squirrels from extinction

B. help squirrels with better skills to get food

C. find suitable food for red squirrels

D. analyse why red squirrels were beaten by gray squirrels

34. What does Pizza Ka Yee Chow and her colleagues find?

A. Gray squirrels are better at trying new strategies.

B. Gray squirrels are willing to solve simple problems.

C. Red squirrels are cleverer when dealing with challenges.

D. Neither kind of squirrels can get tasty hazelnuts after solving puzzles.

35. What’s the b est title of the passage?

A. Red squirrels are going to extinct

B. Gray squirrels are smarter than red squirrels

C. Gray squirrels in the U.K.

D. Differences between red squirrels and gray squirrels

Google announced this week that it’s building 100 self-driving car prototypes and Lloyd wrote a great piece discussing various city and planning implications, questions, and suggestions. 36

It’s electric!

Google didn’t make a big point of t his, but the self-driving cars will be 100% electric. 37

Their small size would further help on the green front, but one commenter noted to me that the aerodynamics could be much better. Indeed. However, my understanding is that the shape of the vehicle is centered around the

laser and radar sensors, maximizing their view.

You can summon the car!

As The Guardian puts it, "the car is summoned by a smartphone for pickup at the user’s location with the destination set."38

39

A key point that was very quickly mentioned in Lloyd’s post is that the cars only contain "two seats, a space for passengers’ belongings, buttons to start and stop, and a screen that shows the route—and that’s about it."

The car will have a range of 100 miles

40 And the infamous and overhyped "range anxiety"shouldn’t be a problem for anyone, as the car should be smart enough to know whether or not it can get to its destination.

A. It has no pedals, no steering wheel

B. Confused? Don’t worry, this isn’t jus t for fun.

C. The car doesn’t want you to feel too at home

D. That would certainly make them much greener than typical cars.

E. On a full charge, the car will have a range of 100 miles, which is a lot for a non-Tesla 100% electric car.

F. Here are a few more points about the self-driving cars themselves that we thought were pretty interesting.

G. I know that’s what we all think of, but I thought that step of the technology was still a long way off.

由题干中的“February”可将答案锁定在“February 6th”的话题“An Update on the Costwold Canals”中。 再结合“I was planning to have dinner that very night.” 由“…with an exhibition bring together over 200 paintings, sculptures, drawings and more.” 29. A。 根据第一段“…the visitors will find the best pieces, most importantly the Persistence of Memory”可知,该作品在Dali的最佳作品中是最重要的,由此可以推断它是Dali的杰作之一。 30. D。 根据第二段末句中的“…follo ws a path of time and subject.” 31. A。

2015年高考全国卷2英语试题及答案(word精校版) 含详细解析 第Ⅰ卷 第一部分听力(共两节,满分30分)略 第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分) A My color television has given me nothing but a headache. I was able to buy it a little over a year ago because I had my relatives give me money for my birthday instead of clothes that wouldn’t fit. I let a salesclerk fool me into buying a discontinued model. I realized this a day later, when I saw newspaper advertisements for the set at seventy-five dollars less than I had paid. The set worked so beautiful when I first got it home that I would keep it on until stations signed off for the night. Fortunately, I didn’t get any channels showing all-night movies or I would never have gotten to bed. Then I started developing a problem with the set that involved static(静电) noise. For some reason, when certain shows switched into a commercial, a loud noise would sound for a few seconds. Gradually, this noise began to appear during a show, and to get rid of it, I had to change to another channel and then change it back. Sometimes this technique would not work, and I had to pick up the set and shake it to remove the sound. I actually began to build up my arm muscles(肌肉) shaking my set. When neither of these methods removed the static noise, I would sit helplessly and wait for the noise to go away. At last I ended up hitting the set with my first, and it stopped working altogether. My trip to the repair shop cost me $62, and the sit is working well now, but I keep expecting more trouble. 21. Why did the author say he was fooled into buying the TV set? A.He got an older model than he had expected. B.He couldn’t return it when it was broken. C.He could have bought it at a lower price. D.He failed to find any movie shows on it. 22. Which of the following an best replace the phrase “signed off” in paragraph 1? A.ended all their programs
