英语主题句的写法

英语写作绝大多数情况下都要求写出一个表明中心思想的主题句，并围绕该主题句展开，扩展成段落。中文却没有明确规定要写出主题句。

英语段落的主题句的好坏直接关系到段落是否成功。写好主题句必须注意一下几个方面：

1）主题句必须是个完整的句子

Learn to operate a computer.

Anyone can learn to operate a computer.

2）主题句内容要清楚。不能模棱两可，含糊其词。Internet plays an educational role in our daily life.

The major cause of air pollution is automobile exhaust fumes in big cities.

3）主题句内容要具体。

To improve listening comprehension, one needs to acquire some listening skills.

Country life is in many respects superior to city life.

但描写具体细节的句子不能用作主题句。

*A gunman killed two workers late on Sunday in a factory.

The workers in this factory began to show great concern about

their safety.

Colors of clothing often reflect your mood. Red makes you feel aggressive and alive. Blue, on the other hand, can be calm or it can be depressing. If you wear yellow you will probably feel cheerful. Black can look smashing（极好的）and chic（别致的）, or it can look drab（单调的，无生气的）, depending on how you accent（强调，重视）it. Probably the worst color to wear at all is gray. Wearing gray, you just fade into the crowd.

The working conditions were poor. The tables where the workers sat were very high and uncomfortable. Except for half an hour at lunch time, there were no breaks in the day to relieve the boring work. There was no music. The walls of the

workrooms were a dull gray color. I was amazed that the workers hadn’t gone strike.

The idea of “a green campus” is beyond a green environment. To begin with, the development on the campus is to be sustainable and recyclable. Some of the authorities’ budget should be on h ow to reduce of the waste. What’s more, we’d better be aware of the seriousness of pollution around us. Thus the idea of environmental protection may become a common occurrence in our daily life.

Then, what does it mean when we refer to green campus? On one hand, the environmental protection is essential and undeniable, which is the premise to this concept. On the other hand, it is far from enough to meet the overall goals of green campus to simply maintain green environment. Instead, it also requires the construction of active cultural atmosphere among all the staff and students by our mutual efforts.

Some people hold a firm position that it is a beneficial thing for kids to attend art classes. There, kids can not only

learn some art skills that may helpful for them someday, they can also get a chance to expand their interests to a great extent, and their minds can also be broadened. Besides, kids can also make a lot of friends there, thus their communication skills may also be sharpened. While for the others, they hold an opposite opinion. They think parents should not send their kids to art classes blindly against kids’ will, because this will get a definitely negative impact on kids. Kids, in these parents’ eyes, should be given more flexible time to relax and do whatever they are interested in. And kids also need freedom because unacceptable art classes will absolutely eliminate the nature of kids. Thus, sending kids to these classes will undoubtedly hurt them.

In spite of the possible benefits mentioned, I, like others, am strongly against it. The major harm is that it might deprive children of their pleasure to play after school. Faced with competition and contest for better universities, most children are buried in piles of homework. Forcing them to art classes will leave them less time to enjoy the beauty of the nature or to find their talent in things they are really interested in.

It is true that the city can provoke much convenience and entertainment, the very reason people can’t bear to part with city life. But the cost for the privilege of living in the city is also high. Just think of the places where we live, full of petrol fumes and toxic gases, torn by the roar of buses and lorries day and night, and thronged（蜂拥而至）ceaselessly by great crowds. Besides, as the housing problem in the central city gets more serious, people have to pay high rents for very tiny flats which I would certainly disdain to live in. in contrast, living near the countryside one can enjoy the clean atmosphere, the closeness to nature and the quiet peaceful surroundings --- the essentials of a healthy life. Nothing can be compared, as the pace of modern life is getting quicker, with the first cock crown, the twittering of birds at dawn, and the sight of the rising sun glinting on the trees and green fields. Although living in the suburbs you may suffer a little discomfort brought about by the necessity of traveling miles to work every day, the situation will change soon as many highways and subways are being constructed.

I like traveling on my own not only because it costs much less but because it gives a great degree of independence and

freedom. Traveling on my own, I am my own boss; and can decide when to start on my way, where to linger a little longer and which spot can be skipped over to save energy or time for another spot. I can always adjust my plan. On the contrary, in a package tour you are deprived of as much freedom as in a military base. At he sound of the whistle, you have to jump up from a sound sleep and, with heavy-lidded eyes, hurry to the gathering place where you are collected and counted to board a coach. At the sight of the little flag waving, you must immediately take yourself away from the scenes you are marveling at and follow the guide whose sole interest is to cover all spots according to his strict schedule, regardless of the weather or your health condition.

People prefer riding bicycles to taking buses for several reasons. First, it is convenient to ride the bicycle to work and to do shopping, because with it you can go anywhere and any time. Second, bicycles are regarded, especially by college and school students, as an economical alternative to buses whose fares have increased 5 times in the past years. Most people, however, ride bicycles mainly to stay out of traffic jams. In many big cities, congestion in the rush hour is so common that taking a bus

proves a dreaded ordeal. Apart from the queues for buses which often reach staggering proportions, you have to be strong enough to shove and fight before you are able to get on a bus, for every bus arrives and leaves packed as fully as a sardine tin. Even when you are lucky enough to board, it will take ages for a bus to carry you to your destination because the traffic on the streets has virtually come to a standstill.

A great number of solutions are being offered. Some people suggest that more streets and roads should be constructed. The advantage is obvious: it can reduce traffic density and hence speed up the flow of buses and cars. But traffic flows constantly rise to fill whatever scale of roads and high ways are provided for them. and in a city with booming industry, land is precious and cannot be extravagantly used for traffic. So others argue that the number of bicycles and cars should be limited while more bus routes should be opened up because buses can accommodate more passengers. But the decrease in the number of bicycles and cars might give rise to another new set of problems, such as inconvenient to people.

From good reading we can derive companionship,

experience and instruction. A good book is our faithful friend. It can increase our contentment when we are cheerful and happy, and lessen our pain when we are sad or lonely. Books can also offer us a wide range of experience. In books we may join tourists marveling at the incredible power of the Niagara Falls, mingle with the happy throngs strolling in the Paris boulevards and experience the bitterness or joy of people in different lands and in different times. Few of us can travel far from home or live long over one hundred, but all of us live many lives through the pages of books. What’s more, reading books can increase our intellectual ability, broaden our minds and make us wise.
