Parents differ from children in their career choice.

The question of who should be responsible for planning their career often causes problems for many children. Parents think that they know their children well enough to decide what kind of job suits them. They are afraid that their children are too young to decide their future on their own. However, many children would argue that they should be left free to make their own choices.

The other aspect of career choice is that parents and their children are often different in their opinions of the ideal profession. Parents would prefer children to choose some professions that are stable and could bring prestige and economic benefits. But some children would rather choose professions that are challenging and require independent and creative thinking.

A good reputation brings more opportunities

As is known to all, a good reputation brings more opportunities. However, a bad one brings bad effects. Ancient and modern, many proverbs prove this point. Because these proverbs are so classic that we Chinese can't never forget them. For example, we always say a man leaves his name behind wherever he says and he does, just as a goose utters its cry wherever it flies. For another instance, the saying goes: people as their name, just as a swift horse can run fast. To our own, we are always willing to stay with people who owes a good reputation. On the contrary, we tend to stay at a respectful distance from those who owes the bad reputation.

Nowadays, in all kinds of fields, a good reputation brings more opportunities. Such as in business, businessmen are willing to deal with things with the customer whose integrity are good. For workers, the employees with honesty are always being treated with privilege. The person showed their integrity and honesty , which , in return, brings more opportunities for their personal development, maybe with a boundless future.

Thinking Positively Can Become a Habit

Nowadays, as the social competition is becoming increasing fierce. Many people are under great pressure , that make them depressed, anxiety-ridden and insomnic , even commit suicide. One of the reasons for this result is lacking of positive thinking, they only see the bad side, never think something positive.

Thinking positively can become a habit. On the one hand, when you are in trouble or fell down, you don’t want to give up, on the contrary, you feel full of energy, you try your best to overcome and solve. Instead of complaining about natural condition and other people. Positive thinking can let you keep a good state of mind. There is an old saying: a good state of mind is a half of success. Once you focus on your study and work, no too much worry, no any fear, go straight ahead.

On the other hand, when your friends who are disappointed in a love affair or somebody is seriously ill, you can use positive thinking to comfort and encourage them, let them fill with confidence and courage, they will see the another side of life. Having a positive thinking habit not only you can live a happy and satisfied life, but also influence and help the people around you.

As far as I’m concerned, positive thinking just like a hot coffee when you feel tired, like analeptic when you fall down, like a honey when you are painful.

Charlie Chaplin is a great comic for his native land Britain, but even more so for the world. On the stage he often wore tiny moustaches, huge pants and tailcoats that were perhaps more

characteristic of Europeans and may be not much of the British. Since more than half of the roles Chaplin played were in silent films, people throughout the world had no difficulty understanding his films. With sound movies, Chaplin created a nonsense language that had no known nationality and was accepted and appreciated by people all over the world. For most of his lifetime he did not stay in his mother country; he traveled throughout the world to appear on the stage for people of different nationalities.

Famous people shoulder more responsibilities

Nowadays we often ask a question whether famous people shoulder more responsibilities than ordinary people. Whether the answer is ‘Yes’or ‘No’, it is true that famous people play a very important role in our society. And personally, I think famous people should pay more attention to their responsibilities.

As we all know, Yaoming, a famous basketball star in NBA, also throws himself into charity work and public service besides basketball and become the most famous sport celebrity. Through his propaganda, many children who have AIDS are concerned and receive assistance from all round the world. I think Yaoming has shoulder the responsibility a famous man should have. Besides, the chairman of Microsoft, Bill Gates, who is one of the most famous people to promote the development of computer technology in the world, has been trying his best to make people throughout the world pay more attention to charity, which has helped thousands of children who are homeless. He not only promotes the development of science, but also sets a good example for us all.

In a word, I think famous should shoulder more responsibilities, because social responsibility and public charity will add to the respect of the public image of a celebrity and a respected celebrity will in turn influence more ordinary people.

Superstars enjoy their populariity at the cost of privacy.

As the saying goes: every coin has two sides. This is always the case with the superstarts, who have to sacrifice their privacy by being a celebrity in the spotlight, which is the cost they have paid for.

As superstars, their private life becomes a focus of the public. They have to consume the side effect their popularity has brought them. They have come to terms with the situation.

They have to get used to being involved in different rumours and scandals. On the day when they become celebrities ,they should be aware that they will never hide their private life behind the public, for they are high profile. They are no longer what they were.To them ,on the one hand, the public concern can be a challenge to their quality as well as their behavior ,they have to learn to regulate themselves whatever they do.On the other hand, especially a film star, his or her behavior or words exemplify the images in the viewers, who like to relate their characters and qualities in the reality to the roles in the films or plays.

In a word, being a superstar not only means flowers and applauses but frustrations and sufferings.

It is difficult to get a welfare client's wheelchair repaired. Once my wheelchair needed repairing, and I notified my caseworker. She gave me a lecture that I hadn't taken good care of my wheelchair. Then she told me that I must have the patience to wait until she had the time to report my wheelchair conditions to my medical worker. Then the medical worker called the wheelchair repair companies to get the cheapest bid and informed the main welfare office at the

state capital. It took them another several days to consider the matter. When they finally got my wheelchair repaired, I had been confined to bed for more than half a month.

small deeds contribute to social progress

As is known to all, social progress leads to the improvement of people's life, and social progress depends on every effort made by each member of the society. It's true that great events can promote the social progress. But small deeds can also put forward the social progress.

For example, people may think going out by bus is a very small deed for the environmental protection,it can do nothing for the society.ButI don't think so.To my mind, taking a bus instead of driving a car can do good to our environment as well as the social progress. For it can cut down the air pollution and poisonous gases. If everybody keeps doing the same thing, its contribution is great and the society will benefit a lot from it,and so a good progress in society would be made.

Life is never short of beauty

Our life is never short of beauty . what matters is that we should search for the beauty through our eyes of our own accord.

If you keep an eye open for things around us intentional , you can find that there are much more beauty than you image . In the nature , the scene of sunrise or sunset is usually thought of as a beautiful moment, for it brings people brightness and warmth and it indicates hope and a new beginning. You may feel refreshed, inspired and full of energy when watching such a scene. And Life is mostly made up of routines and patterns. Every day we act them out and they are what make up the bulk of our lives. Many of us live according to a socially acceptable template, within the realm of safety, while living repetitively and dreaming of ways to escape.

I used to revolt against these routines. I saw them as the enemy of adventure and of living a spontaneous life. However, I’ve found that routines can be quite blissful. I’ve realized that every day events and what we would commonly classify as “normal”, is often extraordinary if you just take a closer look.

I’ve discovered that even if you’re not exactly where you’d like to be, that doesn’t mean that life right now can’t be beautiful or enjoyable. And the best part is, you don’t have to do anything to make it beautiful. It already is beautiful.

All you have to do is open your eyes.

Some people prefer to live alone whereas some others have to live alone for one reason or another. Those people believing in inspirational solitude argue that no companion is more companionable than solitude. Literary giants such as William Wordsworth, John Milton and Henry Thoreau enjoyed living alone on purpose. Hunters or explorers enjoy themselves as they venture out to tame the great wild areas. On the other hand, there are some other people who have to live alone due to various reasons: being divorced, widowed or never married. Many of them feel bitter to live in solitude. They have no one to talk to and as a result they talk at length to themselves and to their pets and to the television.

advantages and disadvantages of living with one's parents Nowadays, many young people prefer to live alone because they want to be much more independent and responsible, even if we should admit that it is a little harder for the majority of families to afford this. However, it is essential for a teenager to be away from his family for some time, to see how he can manage in his own. But what are the advantages and disadvantages for young people who live with their families?

If they living with their families they can take benefit of it. Such as, they don't have to cook for themselves, a thing which can be a great problem for the majority of teenagers, especially boys. It is true that there are several young people who know how to prepare something for them to eat. Then, living with your parents, means you don't have to do all the housework alone. But there are not everything well. It is a great disadvantage to know that you cannot listen to music at a high volume without having your father tell you to pipe down the music. And in case you disturb some of your neighbors, then it is your own responsibility to answer the door and apologize. And you must be careful with your neighbors as they like to complain with your parents when you do something.

However, it is very important to live alone as a teenager, because this step in your life helps one mature. You learn to make a daily programmer for yourself, to put things into order, to make yourself time to prepare something to eat, to go shopping and pay your bills.

shopping in stores VS shopping online

"Which is better,to shop online or to shop in the stores?"Now many people will ask this question.

Some people hold the online shoping. They think that online shopping allows people to avoid those holiday mall crowds and checkout lines. And shopping online allows people to compare products and prices between retailers with a couple clicks of the mouse.

But some people think shopping in storres is better. They think that in-store shopping allows that instant gratification of having people`s product immediately. And they think shopping on line can’t personally examine the product you are buying like you can in-store.

In my opinion, both of shopping online and shopping in store are good ways.We just make a choice for our ideas.

Sticking to high moral standards is easier said than done. Once, a young British car sales manager who had just finished courses on business ethics was sent to sell cars to an African country. The negotiations had been going on for months without any real results. He was at his wits' end. Finally, he hit upon a solution. One day he bought a popular novel and slipped a check of £20,000 in the book. Then he presented it to the minister in charge of transportation. This minister examined its contents, pretending he didn't see the check at all. Then he said with a smile:” Young man, I hear London is at its best in May. “The sales manager, who was quick-witted, replied: "My company in London will be most honored to welcome your visit!" A short time later, the deal was approved in London!

Parents Are the Best Teachers

We will all have many teachers in our lives. They include not only our teachers in school, but our classmates and friends, our colleagues and our bosses and, most importantly, our parents. Our parents are our first and best teachers because they teach us the most important things in life, teach us continually and always have our best interests at heart.

First, our parents begin teaching us the moment we are born, and what they teach us in those early years are the most important things we can learn. They teach us what is important in our own culture and how to get along with other people. In addition, they teach us how to be independent and how to learn. Of course, they also teach us language and many other practical skills. Second, our parents are always teaching us whether we realize it or not. They teach both in words and by example. Finally, our parents are devoted teachers who always want the best for us.

Their only motivation for teaching us is to prepare us for a good life in the future. No one wants or success more than they do.

Throughout our lives we will learn from many people, for there is something that we can learn from everyone we meet. However, no teacher can take the place of our parents because they are our most devoted and best teachers.

genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration What is genius? Some people say that genius is born, they are born with inspiration. Some people said, genius is acquired to form. But I think, genius have inspiration must pay a lot of sweat.

It’s never too late to try something different

As the saying goes “No one wants to stop trying”.Recent years it has become a prevailing trend for those 75 or 80 year old man to surf the Internet .That is to say ,its never too late to try some different things,it means you are contemplating a change. Adolescence is a time when we instinctively seek lots of different expernence and try out different things.

If you were a actor ,you would not be performing without first rehearing your part .Similarly ,we have lots of “first”in our memory.Dance one day, cook another and try different part time job and so on . Its the first time for all of us ,so whether it will be more difficuly to try a new thing when we are older.

Obviously , the answer is “no”.Though we have the risk of failure, it is necessary for us to try some new things where we can get many advantages .Curiosity is another major cause of trying. Firstly, trying different things bring us a different world . Secondly, we may be successful n converting our curiousity into success. And it may even turn out to be our biggest turning point on our grow path .Last but not least, we don’t know when we will meet the situation we can’t control. With the help of experience , when facing an unexpected situations we can deal with them better .

For a college student, it would be a good experience such as solitude、traveling alone、doing different part timr jobs . Not only do you get to broaden your expernences of life ,you open u many doors for the future .The old are focused themselves on doing what they want ,why don’t

we?

There are a number of reasons to explain why the leisure industry is rapidly expanding in Japan.

It is a government-led leisure boom. Japanese workers labor about 200 more hours per year than the average of American workers, according to figures from Japan's Labor Ministry. Under complaint that the Japanese labor force is working too much, the government is vigorously promoting the concept of "leisure".

More leisure time is available. Some companies require employees to take longer vacations, and others are moving to eliminate the traditional Saturday workday so that people will have more leisure opportunities.

More leisure centers are constructed. Hundreds of amusement parks, sports centers and resorts are opening all over Japan. They are trying to provide all kinds of leisure facilities and activities for the Japanese people to enjoy.

two heads are better than one

On May 12th,a powerful earthquake took place in southwest China. It almost destroyed Sichuan.

More than six thousand people lost their lives. As a middle student in Beijing,I have done lots of things for it.

First,I raised some money for them.I believe a hundred yuan is nothing, but millions of hundred means much.Meanwhile,I gave away some books that I didn’t read.I think these can make their live more colorful. Also,I made some cards with encouraging words.I hope those can cheer them up.

EQ counts more than IQ in career

As is known to all, many famous people have high IQ such as Albert Einstein, a thinking machine, who was considered as the greatest scientist of the 20th century. Does high IQ play an important part in one’s career? The answer is yes. However, with the development of our society, more and more studies show that EQ counts more than IQ in career.

Believe it or not, there are several reasons. In the beginning, IQ means cleverness and intelligence, and EQ stands for an ability of judging, dealing, adapting and so on. Furthermore, IQ represents rational while EQ is in the name of emotional. The latter one helps you get well along with other people by a positive way, which is more significant to your success. At last, high IQ just gets more knowledge and skills, but high EQ gains people’s respect, understanding and support.

In a word, EQ counts more than IQ in career. Please remember to improve your EQ if you are high in IQ.

Unit1 Americans believe no one stands still. If you are not moving ahead, you are falling behind. This attitude results in a nation of people committed to researching, experimenting and exploring. Time is one of the two elements that Americans save carefully, the other being labor. "We are slaves to nothing but the clock,” it has been said. Time is treated as if it were something almost real. We budget it, save it, waste it, steal it, kill it, cut it, account for it; we also charge for it. It is a precious resource. Many people have a rather acute sense of the shortness of each lifetime. Once the sands have run out of a person’s hourglass, they cannot be replaced. We want every minute to count. A foreigner’s first impression of the U.S. is li kely to be that everyone is in a rush -- often under pressure. City people always appear to be hurrying to get where they are going, restlessly seeking attention in a store, or elbowing others as they try to complete their shopping. Racing through daytime meals is part of the pace

1A An artist who seeks fame is like a dog chasing his own tail who, when he captures it, does not know what else to do but to continue chasing it. The cruelty of success is that it often leads those who seek such success to participate in their own destruction. "Don't quit your day job!" is advice frequently given by understandably pessimistic family members and friends to a budding artist who is trying hard to succeed. The conquest of fame is difficult at best, and many end up emotionally if not financially bankrupt. Still, impure motives such as the desire for worshipping fans and praise from peers may spur the artist on. The lure of drowning in fame's imperial glory is not easily resisted. Those who gain fame most often gain it as a result of exploiting their talent for singing, dancing, painting, or writing, etc. They develop a style that agents market aggressively to hasten popularity, and their ride on the express elevator to the top is a blur. Most would be hard-pressed to tell you how they even got there. Artists cannot remain idle, though. When the performer, painter or writer becomes bored, their work begins to show a lack of continuity in its appeal and it becomes difficult to sustain the attention of the public. After their enthusiasm has dissolved, the public simply moves on to the next flavor of the month. Artists who do attempt to remain current by making even minute changes to their style of writing, dancing or singing, run a significant risk of losing the audience's favor. The public simply discounts styles other than those for which the artist has become famous. Famous authors' styles—a Tennessee Williams play or a plot by Ernest Hemingway or a poem by Robert Frost or T.S. Eliot—are easily recognizable. The same is true of painters like Monet, Renoir, or Dali and moviemakers like Hitchcock, Fellini, Spielberg, Chen Kaige or Zhang Yimou. Their distinct styles marked a significant change in form from others and gained them fame and fortune. However, they paid for it by giving up the freedom to express themselves with other styles or forms. Fame's spotlight can be hotter than a tropical jungle—a fraud is quickly exposed, and the pressure of so much attention is too much for most to endure. It takes you out of yourself: You must be what the public thinks you are, not what you really are or could be. The performer, like the politician, must often please his or her audiences by saying things he or she does not mean or fully believe. One drop of fame will likely contaminate the entire well of a man's soul, and so an artist who remains true to himself or herself is particularly amazing. You would be hard-pressed to underline many names of those who have not compromised and still succeeded in the fame game. An example, the famous Irish writer Oscar Wilde, known for his uncompromising behavior, both social and sexual, to which the public objected, paid heavily for remaining true to himself. The mother of a young man Oscar was intimate with accused him at a banquet in front of his friends and fans of sexually influencing her son. Extremely angered by her remarks, he sued the young man's mother, asserting that she had damaged his "good" name. He should have hired a better attorney, though. The judge did not second Wilde's call to have the woman pay for damaging his name, and instead fined Wilde. He ended up in jail after refusing to pay, and even worse, was permanently expelled from the wider circle of public favor. When things were at their worst, he found that no one was willing to risk his or her name in his defense. His price for remaining true to himself was to be left alone when he needed his fans the most. Curiously enough, it is those who fail that reap the greatest reward: freedom! They enjoy the freedom to express themselves in unique and original ways without fear of losing the support of fans. Failed artists may find comfort in knowing that many great artists never found fame until well after they had passed away or in knowing that they did not sell out. They may justify their failure by convincing themselves their genius is too sophisticated for contemporary audiences. Single-minded artists who continue their quest for fame even after failure might also like to know that failure has motivated some famous people to work even harder to succeed. Thomas Wolfe, the American novelist, had his first novel Look Homeward, Angel rejected 39 times before it was finally published. Beethoven overcame his father, who did not believe that he had any potential as a musician, to become the greatest musician in the world. And Pestalozzi, the famous Swiss educator in the 19th century, failed at every job he ever had until he came upon the idea of teaching children and developing the fundamental theories to produce a new form of education. Thomas Edison was thrown out of school in the fourth grade, because he seemed to his teacher to be quite dull. Unfortunately for most people, however, failure is the end of their struggle, not the beginning. I say to those who desperately seek fame and fortune: good luck. But alas, you may find that it was not what you wanted. The dog who catches his tail discovers that it is only a tail. The person who achieves success often discovers that it does more harm than good. So instead of trying so hard to achieve success, try to be happy with who you are and what you do. Try to do work that you can be proud of. Maybe you won't be famous in your own lifetime, but you may create better art. 1B One summer day my father sent me to buy some wire and fencing to put around our barn to pen up the bull. At 16, I liked nothing better than getting behind the wheel of our truck and driving into town

新视野大学英语3第三版课文翻译 Unit 1 The Way to Success 课文A Never, ever give up! 永不言弃! As a young boy, Britain's great Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill, attended a public school called Harrow. He was not a good student, and had he not been from a famous family, he probably would have been removed from the school for deviating from the rules. Thankfully, he did finish at Harrow and his errors there did not preclude him from going on to the university. He eventually had a premier army career whereby he was later elected prime minister. He achieved fame for his wit, wisdom, civic duty, and abundant courage in his refusal to surrender during the miserable dark days of World War II. His amazing determination helped motivate his entire nation and was an inspiration worldwide. Toward the end of his period as prime minister, he was invited to address the patriotic young boys at his old school, Harrow. The headmaster said, "Young gentlemen, the greatest speaker of our time, will be here in a few days to address you, and you should obey whatever sound advice he may give you." The great day arrived. Sir Winston stood up, all five feet, five inches and 107 kilos of him, and gave this short, clear-cut speech: "Young men, never give up. Never give up! Never give up! Never, never, never, never!" Personal history, educational opportunity, individual dilemmas - none of these can inhibit a strong spirit committed to success. No task is too hard. No amount of preparation is too long or too difficult. Take the example of two of the most scholarly scientists of our age, Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison. Both faced immense obstacles and extreme criticism. Both were called "slow to learn" and written off as idiots by their teachers. Thomas Edison ran away from school because his teacher whipped him repeatedly for asking too many questions. Einstein didn't speak fluently until he was almost nine years old and was such a poor student that some thought he was unable to learn. Yet both boys' parents believed in them. They worked intensely each day with their sons, and the boys learned to never bypass the long hours of hard work that they needed to succeed. In the end, both Einstein and Edison overcame their childhood persecution and went on to achieve magnificent discoveries that benefit the entire world today. Consider also the heroic example of Abraham Lincoln, who faced substantial hardships,
