1、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Paul and I were on our school basketball team, The Lions. We loved basketball and were both huge fans of the NBA. My favourite player was LeBron James. Paul’s favourite player was Tyrone Bogues, a guy who played for the Charlotte Hornets. In fact, we actually agree that they are both champions.

Bogues was only 1.6 metres tall, which made him the shortest ever player in the NBA. And guess what? Paul was only 1.6 metres tall, too! Paul knew that being shorter than other players meant that he had to practise more. During all those hours of doing jump shots on his own, he used Bogues as his inspiration. Paul once said, “If Bogues could make it, why not me?”

Our coach was not so sure. Paul had to try out many times just for making the team. He was still usually on the bench, being just a replacement. Everyone knew Paul had real skills, and had a strong desire to play for the team. However, Paul didn’t get a chance.

This week, The Lions were playing our main competitors, The Bears, a team whose record this season had been perfect. They hadn’t lost a single game. It would be a tough one. Paul didn’t know he’d soon get the chance that he’d been waiting for.

Suddenly, a player and I crashed into each other. My knee hurt badly. The team gathered around, looking worried. The last quarter was about to begin, and my team was behind by 10 points.

“I don’t think I can play anymore, Coach,” I said quietly as the doctor put an ice pack on my knee.

“No way,” the Coach replied sharply. “We’ve got no more players!”

“What about Paul?” someone suggested.

“Paul?” said the Coach. “He can’t play!”

“Give him a shot, Coach!” I said. “What have we got to lose?”

“That’s right,” another player said. “We’re losing anyway. Let Paul play!”

“Let me try, Coach! I won’t let you down!” Paul said.

“OK, OK!” The Coach finally agreed. “Don’t let us down, Paul. It’s your time to shine.”

2、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Jenny was a pretty eight-year-old girl.

One day when she and her mother were checking out at the grocery store, Jenny saw a plastic pearl necklace, by which she was totally defeated. How eagerly she wanted it! But when he saw the price, her heart sank a little. She gathered up her courage and asked her mother if she would buy it for her, her mother said, “Well, it is a pretty necklace, but it costs an awful lot of money. I can buy you the necklace, but when we get home we should make up a list of housework that you can do to pay for the necklace.” Jenny agreed immediately, feeling a burst of joy. So her mother bought the pearl necklace for her. Jenny worked on her housework determinedly and earnestly every day. Soon Jenny had paid off the pearls.

Jenny had a very loving daddy. When Jenny went to bed, he would read Jenny her favorite story. One night when he finished the story, he said, “Jenny, do you love me?” “Oh yes, Daddy, you know I love you,” the little girl said delightedly, with a broad smile on her face. “Well, then, give me your pearls.” Hearing that, Jenny froze there, an anxious expression twisting her face. “Oh! Daddy, not my pearls! But you can have Rosy, my favorite doll. Remember her? You gave

her to me last year for my birthday. Okay?” “Oh no, darling, that's okay.” Her father brushed her cheek with a kiss, gently and calmly. “Good night, little one.”

A week later, her father once again asked Jenny after her story, “Do you love me?” “Oh yes, Daddy, you know I love you.” the little girl murmured softly, trying to escape from her father’s eyes. “Well, then, give me your pearls.” “Oh, Daddy, not my pearls! But you can have Ribbons, my toy horse. Do you remember her? She's my favorite.” The little girl begged. “No, that's okay,” her father said, smiling broadly and sweetly and brushed her cheek again with a kiss. “God bless you, little one. Sweet dre ams.”

This time, the son shouted at his father, "Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times ‘ IT IS A CROW ‘. Are you not able to understand this? "

A little while later the father went to his room and came back with an old tattered (破旧的)diary, which he had maintained since his son was born.

On opening a page, he asked his son to read that page.

When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary:

"Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question. I did not at all feel irritated but 1 rather felt affection for my innocent son. "

4、It was somewhere between spring and summer, my mom and I were driving through the countryside. Back then, I was 13 years old, and always felt unhappy with Mom. But little did I know that this trip was going to be a special one.

A pot of flowers sat in the back seat, whose heavenly scent filled the car.

Suddenly, in the middle of nowhere, my mom pulled over. "What are you doing?" I cried, fearing that the car had broken down and we'd be stuck there, so far from home. But that wasn't the case. My mom hopped out of the car, grabbing the flowers from the back seat. "It'll just be a minute," she called back through the open windows.

My eyes impatiently skimmed the edge of the road before settling on a little sign showing that it was a nursing home. I looked back to the building, somewhat annoyed, as my mom reappeared-empty-handed.

Before she started the car, curiosity drove me to ask, "Do you know someone there?" She shook her head. "Then what did you do with the flowers?" She smiled slightly, "I gave them to the receptionist." "What?" She laughed at my confusion. "I told the receptionist to give the flowers to whoever needed them, especially who hasn't gotten any in a while."

I kept silent for a moment. Not long after we continued our driving, I spoke again, "Did you leave your name?" To this she answered instantly, "No. Leaving flowers there for someone who will appreciate them makes me feel good, which is enough of a thank for me."

Suddenly, still thinking about Mom's deeds, I heard something burst loudly. It was our car that broke down! Nothing could be worse, because neither my mom nor I understood how to repair it, and we didn't know where the garage was. It also seemed impossible to wait for any passer-by, since we had seen so few along the way.

When she was 22 years old, Pat Jones decided to travel around the world and see as many foreign places as she could when she was young. When she finished college at home in Britain, Pat chose to visit Latin America first. She managed to get a job as an English teacher in a secondary school in Bolivia. Pat spoke a little Spanish,so she was able to communicate with her students even though they did not know much English.

A sentence she had once read somewhere stuck in her mind :If you dream in a foreign language, it means that you have really mastered it. Pat repeated this sentence to her students and she hoped that someday she would dream in

Spanish and they would dream in English.

One day, Tim, one of the worst students in her class, came up to her and explained in Spanish that he had not done his homework. He said that he had gone to bed early, but slept badly. Pat was quite angry with him, for she did not think that his explanation had anything to do with his homework. But Tim told her that he dreamed all night and his dream was in English.

“In English!” Pat though t. She was greatly surprised, since Tim was such a bad student. She was also jealous (嫉妒的). Her dreams were still not in Spanish, but she decided to encourage her student and asked him to tell her about his dream.

“All the people in my dream spoke English,” Tim said. “And all the signs were in English. All the newspapers, magazines and TV programs were in English, too.”

“ But that’s wonderful!” said Pat. “What did all the people say to you?” she asked.

“I’m sorry, Miss Jones. That’s why I slept so badly all night. I didn’t understand a word they said. It is a nightmare (噩梦)!” Tim answered.

Once there was a little girl named Emily. Although her singing was very pleasant to hear, lacking of courage, she never dared to sing in front of strangers.

One summer, the neighborhood where she lived would hold a singing competition. Her best friend, Lucy, came to invite her to participate in the competition, but Emily said, “I’m afraid to take part in it.” Her mother said, “it’s okay, just do it bravely.” Emily followed her mama’s advice

and decided to give herself a try. The day came. Emily and Lucy went to the competition site. But she was too timid (胆小的) to walked onto the stage. She had been waiting until others finished singing. She shakily (颤抖地) forced herself to stand on the stage. She started to sing, but her voice was so low. What’s worse, she was so nervous that she forget the lyrics (歌词) after singing a few words. Being laughed at by others, embarrassed and shy, she ran away from the stage.

Some naughty boys ran af ter her and said, “Emily, coward (胆小鬼)! Emily, coward!” Emily didn’t argue with them. What she wanted was to go back home as quickly as she could. Finally, she rushed into the house, hugged her mom and cried sadly.

“Well, my poor girl. Don’t cry. Tell me what happened to you.” asked her mom. Emily looked up her mother and told her what she had experienced.

Listening to her, her mom cupped her face and said, “it doesn’t matter, girl. As long as you practice singing more in front of strangers, you will become braver little by little. So, my girl, don’t be beaten by a failure. You can go out to practice singing every day. No matter who is listening to you, go on singing and never stop. I believe there will be a harvest for you.”Paragraph 1:

Max works as a security guard at a famous museum. As a security guard, Max watches visitors to the museum as they come and go. He often wonders things about them. Where do they come from? Are they happily married? What do they do for a living?

One day, Max notices a very pretty woman visiting the exhibit he is guarding. He has seen her before. In fact, she often comes to see the rare jewelry exhibit—sometimes several times a week.

During one of these visits, she starts a conversation with Max. She asks if it is difficult to be a security guard and if he ever gets bored. She introduces herself as Maria,a fashion designer.

When Maria comes to visit, she often talks with Max. “Maybe she likes me,” he thinks.

Max thinks she is very interesting and wants to spend more time with her. During one of their talks at the museum, he finds out that she is studying Italian.

He lies and tells her he has always wanted to learn Italian. He is simply using Italian as a trick. And it works! Max and Maria meet every Saturday afternoon in the museum garden to study Italian.

During the lessons, they also talk about themselves. Maria shares her dreams of one day showing her fashions in a museum. Max tells her many details about his security job, including the security code and the locations of alarms. He jokes that it would be very easy to rob the museum.

Over the passing weeks, they learn more about each other. What Max doesn’t learn, however,is that Maria is not as innocent as she looks. Maria is actually an international jewel thief! Police from eight different countries have been searching for her in the past two years!

Her latest goal is to steal the rare Black Diamond! This diamond is the most valuable diamond in the world and it is part of the exhibit that Max is guarding. All her attention on him was a trick to learn more about the museum’s security system.

Several days late r, when Jenny’s father came in to read her a story, Jenny was waiting anxiously for him on the bed. When listening to the story, Jenny was totally absent- minded, with her hands holding the necklace tightly and firmly. When the story came to an end, unexpectedly, Jenny offered her beloved necklace to her father, with her fingers trembling automatically. No one knew what the necklace meant to her. She whispered to her father, softly and gently, “ Daddy, you know I love you more than the necklace.” Then, the necklace slid into her father’s hands determinedly.

Holding the plastic pearl his daughter offered, his father dragged out a blue box. Much to Jenny’s amazement, a beautiful real pearl necklace lay peacefully in the box, which set her heart racing. Jenny froze there, a thrilled expression twisting her face. Before Jenney was able to say something, her father brushed a warm kiss on her face and gathered her into his arms. God knows how far we had driven! When we arrived, the receptionist was surprised, but warmly helped us contact the garage. There, the old men who had received the flowers were excited to meet us, talking about how great that day was. It amazed me what random actions of kindness could mean to the people who received it. While we were laughing and talking merrily, the garage got our car repaired. Paragraph 2:

This was the trip of my life.

After hearing the boy's words, Pat felt sorry for his terrible experience and said at least that was a good beginning. She still believed in the sentence stuck in her mind, so the English teacher made

a deal with her students. Though she had only a limited knowledge of Spanish, she decided she should use the language more often while her students should use English the same way.

In order to encourage her students to speak English y Pat also asked her students to tell their dreams in English while she did it in Spanish. It worked. Several students took turns to tell their dreams in fluent English. Amazingly, some students could finally dream in English, which made Pat almost jump with joy the moment she heard what her students said. She was not jealous this time. One possible explanation for this is that “ practice makes perfect”.

第三组 (建议用时:45分钟) Ⅰ.阅读理解 Strange Wedding Traditions around the World Flinging raw rice and breaking a glass underfoot may seem like strange ways to celebrate a marriage, at l east if you’re not used to American customs. Strange as some U.S. wedding traditions may be, they certainly cannot take the (wedding) cake for overall wedding weirdness. Those honors go to these 5 strange wedding traditions around the globe. Blackening of the Bride and Groom (Scottish) For Scotland’s tradition of blackening of the bride, which has expanded to now include the groom, absolutely anything goes. This includes tars, feathers, pillow stuffing, dirt, rotting food, sour milk, flour—you name it and you get it, you can certainly pile it on.The blackening takes place prior to the wedding, which at least spares the tux (无尾礼服) and the wedding dress, but any time or location is fair game.Once blackened, the lucky newlywed-to-be is paraded through the streets or tied to a tree as said “friends” announce the wedding.Blackening suppose dly prepares the person for any humiliation (羞耻) that life has yet to bring, as nothing could be as humiliating as being blackened. Breaking Dishes (German) Throwing plates is typically something you do after you’ve been married a few years, unless you’re from Germany. The wonderful tradition of breaking dishes actually takes place prior to the wedding at the rehearsal dinner.Tradition says the more dishes you break, the more good luck the new bride will receive. This counts double if she’s lucky enough to get a brand new set of china as a wedding gift. After this part, the bride and groom join forces to sweep up the mess, a gesture that ensures nothing will ever get broken in their home again. Keep Your Feet on the Floor (Irish) Irish legend has it that the bride must keep her feet on the floor while she’s dancing with the groom to ensure little fairies attracted by her beauty won’t kidnap her.The quick and clever fairies are always eager to get their hands on beautiful things, and legend says the bride has long been a prime target. Irish legends throughout the ages full of tales of fairies stealing brides, although it’s not clear where the brides end up and if the destination is better than where she planned to spend her honeymoon. Passing a Rolling Pin(擀面杖)(Polish) How many Polish people does it take to pass a rolling pin? It depends on how many people are at the Polish wedding! The tradition is pretty much what it sounds like,as people stand in a circle and pass a rolling pin from one person to the next, but there’s a rule—no hands are allowed, and each person must grad and then pass the pin along using only their legs. While it is not immediately evident what the tradition means or why people do it,it is evident it would be great video to capture for future generations to enjoy. No Bathroom Breaks for Three Days(Tidong tribe,Northern Borneo) Can your bladder (膀胱)really explode? Folks who follow a marriage tradition in Northern Borneo put this question to the test.Newlyweds in the Tidong tribe must stay in their home for three days—without a single bathroom break. That means no No.1, no No.2 during this three-day period. The background of this tradition is extremely unclear... as is the feeling people probably get after not relieving

高考英语二轮复习高考题型重组练(三)

高考英语二轮复习高考题型重组练(三) Ⅰ.阅读理解 A [2019·青岛市质量检测] Recently whenever I turned on my computer or my mobile phone, news about the great effect of Hurricane Harvey on thousands of people caught my eye. I saw many unfortunate events. However, there were also the bright news that confirmed the goodness of mankind. As a journalist, I wrote many human-interest stories during my career. That's why the story about the guys in the bakery caught my eye. When the staff at a Mexican bakery chain in Houston were trapped inside the building for two days, they didn't sit there feeling sorry for themselves. They used their time wisely after flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. While they were waiting for the eventual rescue that came on Monday morning, four decided to make as many loaves of bread as possible for their community. The flood water rose in the street outside. They took advantage of their emergency power supply to bake bread. They used more than 4,200 pounds of flour to create hundreds of loaves and sheets of sweet bread. Although the water kept rising, they continued baking to help more people. By the time the owner managed to get to them, they had made so much bread that they took the loaves to loads of emergency centers across the city for people affected by the floods. The store manager, Brian Alvarado, told The Independent,“ Whenever a disaster occurs, nobody should just feel forlorn. Instead,we should take positive action to save ourselves and help others. Our acts of kindness will make a big difference.” 1.What did the bakery store workers do after flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey? A.They volunteered to make bread for their community. B.They managed to live by selling more bread in the store. C.They felt sorry that they couldn't escape from the store.
