Bargaining is an art at Xiushui Market in Beijing. The following tips can help you get good offers for most things you buy, especially for clothing.

Pay Attention to the Offering Price

Be aware that the starting price offered by the seller is at least 40% over the general price accepta ble. It’s usually 80% over. Sometimes, it can be up to 150% over. So always try to drop the seller’s offering price as much as possible before opening your mouth with a price.

Seek Help

Have an idea of the value of the things you want. You can consult your local friends about the price. You may not be able to get the lowest prices given at Xiushui Market by yourself, especially on weekends or festival seasons when there are lots of tourists around.

Walk away at the right time

Do walk away once you’ve offere d your final price while the seller is not ready to accept it. If you get called back, you know you are close to your ideal price. If you do not get called back, go to a similar stall (摊位)and try again with a slightly higher price. Note that if you’ve made a deal, you are then expected to buy the item.

Attitude Matters

You will increase the chances of getting a better price by being confident, patient, and friendly. Treat it as a kind of game to get the most out of it — getting angry or rude will never

help to bring the price down.

21. When can you get the lowest price at Xiushui Market according to the passage?

A. When the sellers are busy.

B. On crowded weekends.

A. an appointment with someone

B. an agreement in business

A. walk away and wait for the seller to call you back

B. go on bargaining for a lower price

C. go to a similar stall for a better price

D. pay the seller for what you want

24. From the tips we can learn that the seller’s offer may be affected by ___________.

A. the buyer’s manners

B. the buyer’s social position

C. the buyer’s appearance

D. the buyer’s companion

25. We may see this passage on a (an) ___________.

A. science fiction

B. geographical book

When others get off the train to finally go home, Leonie Muller stays behind. That’s because she is already home:the train is her apartment, and she says she likes it that way. The German college s tudent gave up her apartment in spring. “It all started with an argument I had with my landlord,” Muller told The Washington Post via e-mail. “I immediately decided I didn’t want to live there anymore and then I realized:a ctually, l didn’t want to live any where anymore.”

Instead, she bought a subscription (会员)that allows her to board every train in the country for free. Now, Muller washes her hair in the train bathroom and writes her college papers while traveling at a speed of up to 190 mph. She says that she enjoys the freedom since she gave up her apartment. “I really feel at home on trains. It’s like being on vacation all the time,” Muller said.

“I want to inspire people to question their habits and the things they consider to be normal,” Muller told The Post. “There are always more opportunities than one thinks there are. The next adventure is waiting just around the corner —provided that you want to find it.”

Muller frequently travels late at night, although she tries to sleep at the apartments of relatives or friends. Often, she is accommodated by her boyfriend, her mother or grandmother. “Normally, we would have to have a long-distance relationship, but living on a train enables me to see him all the time,” Muller told German TV station SWR regarding her boyfriend. “Most of my friends really like the idea, although some consider it to be quite adventurous. Others, however, have reacted more negatively. They feel offended by the fact that I question the ordinary way of life and living.”

The only problem?“Possessing a headset that reduces most surrounding noises is important,” she said.

26.What is the direct reason for Muller’s choice to give up her apartment?

A.She had an argument with her landlord.

27. According to Muller, which is one of the advantages of living on trains?

A. She can have more holidays.

A. Habits and routines die hard.

B. The next adventure is coming soon.

C. People need to make changes in their life.

D. People need to follow in her footsteps to live on trains.

29. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

A. The ordinary way of life and living.

B. The thought of living on a train.

C. German TV station SWR.

D. A long-distance relationship.

30. What could be the best title for the passage?

A. A New Family

B. Opportunities and Adventures

Along with soccer, basketball is a global sport. As you read this, young people somewhere in the world are happily passing, dribbling (运球)and shooting. It’s great fun and a joyful way to spend time with others.

Basketball is a game for everyone. Unlike golf or tennis, it doesn’t require great wealth or a lot of space to play. After all, not many people have a golf course-sized backyard, and tennis equipment is expensive. Basketball, by contrast, just needs a wall with a basket and a ball.

So after its invention by the Canadian-American physical educator James Naismith in 1891, the sport took off with US city residents, who quickly became attracted to the game because it suited their circumstances. Today, 128 years later, basketball remains one of the most popular sports in the US, and the National Basketball Association (NBA) has an interesing appeal to fans around the world.

The success of basketball as a global phenomenon is undoubtedly related to the way African-Americans play the game. The basketball court reflected some of the major cultural shifts in America.

From the 1950s onwards, segregation rules, which had forbidden African-Americans from playing in NBA games, were no longer used in the US. In 1950, when Earl Lloyd started to play for the Washington Capital team, things began to change. Since then, most of the greats of the game have been African-Americans, like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Brayant and LeBron James.

It’s not difficult to see that there’s a strong link between political liberation and basketball. Something of this is expressed in a quote from the US author John Edgar Wideman. He makes a connection between basketball and hope:“When it’s played the way it’s supposed to be played, basketball happens in the air; flying, floating above the floor, levitating (飘起) the way oppressed (被压迫的) peoples of this earth imagine themselves in their dr eams.”

31.What advantage does basketball have over golf or tennis, according to the author?

A.It is a global sport.

B.It doesn’t cost much to play.

C.It doesn’t require too much skill.

D.It interests almost everyone.

32.What can we learn about basketball from Paragraph 3?

A.The sport was created by a PE teacher.

B.The sport was not popular with people at first.

C.Its rules have changed a lot to suit new circumstances.

D.The NBA, with a history of 128 years, attracts people worldwide.

33.The underlined word “s egregation” in Paragraph 5 means “_________”?

A.Separation.

https://www.wendangku.net/doc/c21144396.html,bination.

https://www.wendangku.net/doc/c21144396.html,petition.

D.Majority.

34.Which statement is True according to the passage?

A.Basketball appeals to the most fans.

B.Greatest basketball players are all African-Americans.

C.The racial problems reflect some major cultural changes in America.

D.African-American players contribute greatly to the global popularity of

basketball.

35.What do John Edgar Wideman’s words mean?

A.Basketball is sometimes a useful tool for politicians.

B.American people usually have a basketball dream.

C.Basketball stands for the freedom and hopes of people.

D.Political oppression is a serious problem in the US.

第二节:共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

If you are like millions of people around the world, the New Year brings with it new goals. Perhaps you want to save money, lose weight or learn a new skill. But then you get busy. Your daily life —as wonderful as it can be —takes up all of your time. Yet your goal remains important. And achieving a goal, no matter how small, feels good. In addition, when we do not work on our goals, we may end up feeling guilty or not successful. __36__

Many websites offer the same advice:if you want to achieve something, clearly identify it and write it down. __37__ If a goal is too general, it may be hard to pursue, let alone achieve it. For example, your goal is to get in better physical shape. That’s a fine idea —but psychologists might say as a goal, it is too general. To make the goal more specific, you could sign up for a regular exercise class and you have a regular commitment every week.

Experts say writing down your goal is a very important step. __38__ Writing things down seems to say to the brain, “I am important! Remember me!” Writing has another benefit:you can post your goal somewhere as a reminder. As you sit down at your computer or pour your morning coffee, your goal stares you in the face and asks, “What are you going to do about me today?”

Telling someone your goal is also helpful. __39__, you are held accountable for (承担责任)any progress or lack of progress. You feel a pressure to do it — the pressure of your friend’s opinion of you. Many people do not want to let others down, especially friends and family.

Not all goals are created equal. Some can be quite big. And for those bigger goals, experts

suggest breaking them down into smaller ones. Other experts remind us of another detail as we set our goals:the goals may change. Or your life situation may change. Or you may change. __40__ Is this goal still what you want?Is your approach still working? If things are not proceeding forward, perhaps you need to change something.

Your goals are not final destinations, but rather lighthouses guiding you along. It is the pursuit of your goals — not the reaching of them — that makes up the weeks, days and hours of our lives. Be sure to have fun along the way!

A.If you keep saying none

B.As you identify your goals, be specific.

C.If someone else knows about your goals

D.So, identify them, write them down and set for yourself time limits.

E.How can we find time to work on these larger life goals?

F.It gets the goal out of your brain and into the real world.

G.So, it is a good idea to check in with yourself.

书面表达

One possible version:

Good morning, everyone,

I’m Li Ming from Chenguang Middle School. The topic of my speech is “Let’s Ride Bicycles”. As is known to all, with the improvement of people’s living standards, cars have become a popular means of transport, bringing great convenience to our life. However, they have also caused some problems such as air pollution and traffic jams. How can we solve the problems then?

As far as I’m concerned, riding bicycles is a good solution. For one thing, bicycles don’t need any petrol and they are energy-saving. For another, bicycles are environmentally friendly because they won’t give off waste gas. What’s more, riding bicycles is a good way for us to exercise and it is beneficial to our health.

Therefore, let’s take the responsibility to build up a low carbon city by riding bicycles. Come on and join us!

Thank you!
