Mounting evidence suggests that men and women think differently, and this seems to hold true in the unfortunate case of prejudice. New research by evolutionary psychologists at Michigan State University suggests that prejudice in men tends to be linked to aggression, while prejudice in women tends to be linked to fear. These researchers propose a “male war rior hypothesis” in order to explain how our history of group conflict may have shaped male and female psychologies in distinct ways.

Essentially, men are more likely to start wars and to defend their own group, sometimes in very risky and self-sacrificial ways. Attacking other groups represents an opportunity to offset these costs by gaining access to mates, territory, resources and increased status. Women, meanwhile, live under the threat of sexual coercion by foreign aggressors, and are apt to display a“tend-and-befriend response”toward members of their own group, while maintaining a fear of strangers in order to protect themselves and their offspring.

Answer:

If one can’t tolerate one’s own parents in the sunset of their life who have done so much for him, whom else can one tolerate in the home? And how can the personal service and devotion and adoration (崇拜) of loving children ever be replaced by the best hotel waiters?

Righthaven was conceived of as a way of extorting money from websites on behalf of newspaper owners when quotations from those newspapers were posted to the web. The idea was that the newspapers would assign “the right to sue” to Righthaven, which would pursue lawsuits on their behalf, and share the take. Righthaven’s primary tactic was to shotgun legal

threats to everyone they could find, regardless of whether their claims had merit, and then withdraw the threat when someone stood up to them — classic copyright trolling.

Now Righthaven is pretty much dead. They’ve lost control over their domain (assigned to one of their victims, who has become a creditor of theirs, since the court awarded him costs), gone broke, and are just waiting for someone to dump them in a pauper’s grave. It’s possible that one of their early investors will come back and rescue them, but that would be a miracle as implausible as the climax of the Smurf's Family Christmas.

Answer:

Read and translate 1. He has no longer written to his friends ever since he got a mobile phone. Even though he is very busy, he spends at least two hours every day surfing the Internet, aiming to know about the latest development in this area / field. 3. Professor Li made a short speech at the commencement, his words of which were deeply impressed upon my memory. 4. Talking of the final exams the students were not nervous at all. On their faces was confidence. To write a short passage of about 100 words within 30 minutes would be a snap to most students in their class.

Old Father Time Becomes a Terror Richard Tomkins 1 Once upon a time, technology, we thought, would make our lives easier. Machines were expected to do our work for us, leaving us with ever-increasing quantities of time to waste away on idleness and pleasure. 2 But instead of liberating us, technology has enslaved us. Innovations are occurring at a bewildering rate: as many now arrive in a year as once arrived in a millennium. And as each invention arrives, it eats further into our time. 3 The motorcar, for example, promised unimaginable levels of personal mobility. But now, traffic in cities moves more slowly than it did in the days of the horse-drawn carriage, and we waste our lives stuck in traffic jams. 4 The aircraft promised new horizons, too. The trouble is, it delivered them. Its very existence created a demand for time-consuming journeys that we would never previously have dreamed of undertaking -- the transatlantic shopping expedition, for example, or the trip to a convention on the other side of the world. 5 In most cases, technology has not saved time, but enabled us to do more things. In the home, washing machines promised to free women from having to toil over the laundry. In reality, they encouraged us to change our clothes daily instead of weekly, creating seven times as much washing and ironing. Similarly, the weekly bath has been replaced by the daily shower, multiplying the hours spent on personal grooming. 6 Meanwhile, technology has not only allowed work to spread into our leisure time -- the laptop-on-the-beach syndrome -- but added the new burden of dealing with faxes, e-mails and voicemails.
