It is for me a real pleasure to address, the 3rd Nigeria - Asia Business and Investment forum. //

The central theme of this forum is the promotion of trade and investment between Nigeria and Asia, for the mutual benefit of our respective countries. But as we gather here today around this central theme, it is important to recall that trade and FDI are significant contributing factors to sound and sustainable economic growth, which in turn is critical for long term reduction in poverty and thus to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. // The role of the private sector is at the center, because the private sector can alleviate poverty by contributing to economic growth, job creation and poor people’s incomes. It can also empower poor people by providing a broad range of products and services at lower prices. //

During these two days, discussions will be rich. Participants from public and private sectors, policy makers and practitioners will review the status of trade and investment between Asia and Nigeria, the difficulties and constraints, the solutions and successes. // They will share their experience and will certainly come up with recommendations for enhancing Asia-Nigeria trade and investment in the future. Nigeria’s NIPC itself will share its long experience in promoting private sector development in Nigeria in general. //

Let me at this point underline again two areas where I think we all have to continue working together to facilitate trade and investment between Asia and Nigeria. //

First, Asian and Nigerian business people, acting in the framework of a sustainable mechanism,

must collectively identify the constraints, and mobilize human and financial resources necessary to overcome them. //

Second, the insufficiency of adequate and reliable people from both regions on each other’s business environment, practices and opportunities is a serious impediment to the expansion of trade and investment. //At a more general level, there is a clear need for Asian and Nigerian peoples to understand each other, not as business partners, but just as human beings. Asia and Nigeria are two continents whose histories and cultures have more in common than many would imagine. Let’s make that the basis for a renewed Asia-Nigeria friendship. //

To conclude my presentation, let me state our conviction that, considering the commitment of all the participants, this meeting will be a successful one, therefore fulfilling its objective of laying the groundwork for a most successful cooperation in trade and investment.

Distinguished guests, dear friends:

Today in the beautiful city of Paris we are having this meeting on the present and future of “Made-in-China”. As the recipient of the award “CCTV annual economic figure” in 2003 and 2004, I deem it a great honor as well as a duty to be here, and on behalf of Chinese businesses, especially of the Chinese home appliance business industry, to present to you the idea of responsible “Made-in-China”.

Now products made in China are very popular. One can not live without them. Bongiorni, a housewife from the othe r side of the Atlantic, has had an interesting idea: no “Made-in-China” for one year. She only ended up with a lot of problems. Her coffee machine was broken, and she couldn’t find any alternative that was cheaper than the one “Made-in-China”. The same is true with her juice extractor and even carpenter’s tools for her husband. Bongiorni, who used to be a journalist, has put her experiences into a book which caused a sensation in America. Her conclusion was: without “Made-in-China”, Americans can only live a more expensive and troublesome life.

The achievements of “Made-in-China” are widely recognized, yet this year its quality problems have caused international concern. I think “Made-in-China” is also “Made-in-the-World”. It is a part of a global chain, the result of international division of labor.

Now, TCL has over 50,000 employees and dozens of R&D and Sales centers in Asia, America, Europe and Oceania. As TCL is increasingly global, so are its employees and managers. Today our top French designer is also present. So TCL’s achievement is a joint effort by French, American and Chinese workers. In the future, we will work our way to being a respected leader. I believe that, with our joint efforts, “Made-in-China” will become a trustworthy and popular sym bol among consumers in the world.

首先，亚洲和尼日利亚的商人在遵守可持续发展框架的前提下，要同心同德，找出困难，并利用必要的人力财力克服困难。

其次，两方都缺少熟悉对方投资环境，案例和机会的可靠人才，这是推动双边贸易投资的最大制约。广义上讲，双方都需要增进了解，不是商业伙伴意义上的了解，而是人的了解。亚洲和尼日利亚都有着悠久的历史和文化，共同之处比很多人想象的要多，这就是双方继续友好往来的基础。

最后，我相信，有了各位代表的参与和支持，本次大会一定会圆满成功，为以后经贸投资合作奠定基础。
