Teaching Procedures:
Step1 Lead-in (2 minutes)
Ask the following two questions in order to lead into the new unit:
Q1:What do you think of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games?
Q2: Which country will the next Olympics be held?--London
Step2 Warming-up (18 minutes)
(1) Learn the geography of the UK.
Ⅰ.The official name of the UK: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Ⅱ.The basic geography of the UK:
Scotland
Britain Wales
The UK England
Northern Ireland
(2)Talk about the four pictures in the book.
Picture1: The ancient stone cross—only can be found in Ireland
Picture2: The old castle with the national flay of Wales on its top. The description of the flag:
A red dragon with wings ,on the flag that is half white and half green.
Picture3: These two men dressed in traditional Kilts and played the instrument called Bigpipe.
Picture4: The London Bridge.There is a chirld’song of it—London Bridge is falling down..
Step3 Speaking (20 minutes)
Ⅰ.Explain the speaking situation.
T: Cambridge University is very famous all over the world..And today more and more middle school students would like to go abroad. Do you also want to go abroad? Now we are going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad.
Ⅱ.Pair Work. Let the students make a short dialogue with their partners with the question. One thinks that studying abroad is good while the other holds that is bad. Then ask two or three pairs to act out their dialogues.
Q: Is studying abroad good or not?
Step4 Summery
