关于英语翻译教学的几点尝试人教版初级中学英语课本的语言比旧版课本的语言难度要大一些，有些句子翻译起来踌躇再三。如So a pet can help a person feel less lonely.(L57BIII) 教材提供的译文是：因此宠物可以使人减少孤独感。这句英文因为不能逐字对译，所以不能回译成原文。如果将原文译成：因此有了宠物作伴，人就不至于感到太孤单了。虽然字面上离原文更远，却把原文的内涵译出来了，更忠实于原文，但是从教学的角度来讲，这是一般英语教师不愿意采取的方法，因为除了机械记忆以外，学生看了译文很难再想起原文了，不便于学生理解英、汉两种语言之间的对应关系。又比如：Just before half time, Li Xiaolin made the score 2—1, with a beautiful shot into the top right-hand corner of the boys’ goal.(L62BIII) 这是一个很复杂的长句，带有较多的修饰语，在教学中我们将其译为：就在时间刚刚接近一半时，李晓琳的一个漂亮射门，球从右上角进入了男生队的球门，使比分成了2:1。或者：就在时间刚要到一半儿时，李晓琳的一个漂亮射门使比分成了2:1，球从右上角进入了男生队的球门。对于足球我们是外行，对于足球的有关术语或习惯表达方式我们知之甚少，懂足球的英语教师肯定比我们译的要好得多。在教材和教参的注释中，有许多精彩的译文可供英语教师借鉴、模仿。如第3册第26课中最后一个长句” He said that he thought more of a person who has one idea and makes it work, than of a person who has a thousand ideas but doesn’t do anything about them.”，课后注释是这样翻译的：他说，比起主意千条而无所作为的人，他更看中一个主意虽不多尔事业有所成的人。如第58课中的一个句子”Herriot knew exactly how they feel when they saw their sick dogs become well again.” 课后注释是这样翻译的：赫里奥特能充分体会到人们看到自己的病狗康复时的心情。这些都是很好的范例。但也有一些值得商榷的地方。下面提出几个英文句子加以讨论。 1、spirit在教材中共出现了三次：…his spirit of generosity lives on today.(L30BIII) 此处译为“慷慨大方的精神”是准确的。 What kind of spirit do you need to become an inventor?(L26BIII) 此处以为“什么样的精神”或者“何种精神”也是正确的。 They do this for fun and to bring the spirit of Christmas to the people in each house.(L30 BIII) 教参中有段说明：教师可让学生反复诵读该故事，并让学生用自己的话复述，以加深对圣诞精神的理解。教材的编者似乎将the spirit of Christmas 译为“圣诞精神”，这样的翻译似乎可以商榷。该句用了一个介词短语和一个不定式来说明他们此举的目的，将为了去了和带来“圣诞精神”相提并论很不协调，教参的编者可能太局限于本故事的原始意思。为了说明问题，先看看翻译家对Christmasspirit的理解。On Christmas Eve, when we checked into a dingy hotel in Nice, there was no
