Welcome to the unit

1.Hobo,you’ve eaten up my breakfast!霍波,你把我的早饭吃光了!

eat up意为“吃光,用完”。

eg:

I’ve eaten up all my lunch.我吃光了我的午饭。

2.She keeps all her things in good order.她使她所有的东西保持井然有序。

(1)keep … in good order意为“使……保持井然有序”。

eg: What a mess!You should keep your books in good order.

(2)order 此处为名词,意为“顺序”。

in the right order 按正确的顺序

3.Mr Wu is patient enough to repeat grammar rules for us.吴老师足够耐心,为我们反复讲解语法规则。

“…adj./adv.+enough+ to do sth.”表示“足够……做某事”,其中动词不定式短语做结果状语。eg:He is strong enough to carry the box.

可与so…that…结构进行同一句转换。

上一句=He is so strong that he can carry the box.

4.He often comes up with new ideas.他经常想出新主意。

come up with 意为“想出(主意);追上,赶上”。

come up with 想出=think of

eg:She came up with a good idea for working out the maths problem.

come up with追上,赶上=catch up with

eg:We were too weak to come up with the climbers.

5.Neither my parents nor I think I can make a good account.我父母和我都认为我不能成为一个好会计。

neither…nor…意为“既不…也不…”,连接两个平行的结构,如果连接主语,则谓语动词要遵循“就近原则”,即与nor后面的主语保持一致。

eg:

The boy is good at neither English nor maths.这个男孩及不擅长英语也不擅长数学。

Neither Jim nor his friends want to go out on such a hot day.吉姆和他的朋友都不想在这样热的天出去。

[拓展]neither的用法

(1)用作限定词,意为“两者都不的”,与单数名词连用。

eg:The student wrote down two words on the blackboard.But neither word was right.

(2)用作代词,意为“两者都不”,常用于neither of 结构中,反义词组为both of“…和…(两者)都”。

eg:Neither of friends has come back yet.

(3)用作副词,意为“也不”。

eg:If you don’t go there,neither will I.

例题:

6.It’s terrible for me to work without speaking all day long.整天默默地工作对我来说太糟糕了。(1)本句结构是“It’s adj. for sb. to do sth.”意为“做某事对某人来说是……”,此结构中的形容词多为easy,difficult,dangerous,important,necessary等描述事物特征的词。

eg:It’s important for you to study hard.

(2)without介词,意为“没有”,后接名词、代词或动词-ing形式作宾语。

eg:Fish can’t live without water.

He went to school without eating breakfast.

(3)all day long意为“一整天”

My mother asks me not to sit in front of the computer all day long.

Reading

1. Wu Wei is a born artist.

吴伟是个天生的艺术家。

born adj. 天生的

e.g. Jay Zhou is a born singer.

周杰伦是个天生的歌手。

2. He’s quiet and doesn’t like to talk much, but his works shout!

他很安静,话不多,但是他的作品却极具说服力。

(1)work 此处用作用作可数名词,意为“著作;作品”,指书籍、音乐或艺术等的作品。eg:I like Beethoven’s piano works.

[拓展]

work作不可数名词,意为“工作”。

It’s very difficult to find work at the moment.

(2)his works shout 运用拟人这一修辞手法,传神地表达出很多艺术家的一种特性——用作品说话

3. … has impressed the whole country with his creative work.

吴伟以他的极具创造力的工作给整个国家留下了印象。

impress sb with sth.

因某事给某人留下深刻印象

e.g. He impressed me with his excellent drawing skills.

他的绘画技巧给我留下很深印象说话。

例题:

(1)They were deeply _____________(impress) by her kindness.

(2)Lin Ping _______ the whole class _______his high marks.

A. impressed; by B: has impressed; with

4. Su Ning gave up her job as an accountant five years ago.

苏宁五年前放弃了会计的工作。

give up 放弃,后接名词或动词的ing形式,接代词放中间。

e.g. Teenagers have to give up their hobbies because of too much schoolwork.

因为过多的学业,青少年不得不放弃自己的兴趣爱好。

例题:

(1)My father has to give up _______________ (smoke) because of his cough.

5. I could only work with numbers day after day.

我只能日复一日的和数字打交道。
