Test anxiety is actually a type of performance anxiety. Performance anxiety is that a person feels worried about how he or she will per form, especially when it’s really important. For example, you might feel performance anxiety when you’re trying out for the school band or for the basketball team.

When you’re taking a test, you might feel “butterflies,” a stomachache, or a tension headache. Some people might feel shaky, sweaty, or feel their heart beating quickly as they wait for the test to be given out. A student with really strong test anxiety may even feel he or she might pass out or throw up.

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. Ask other people and you’ll find that just about all people –adults or teenagers, feel some anxiety before a test. In fact, a small dose of anxiety can be helpful, keeping you sharp and focused. But when your symptoms(症状)take over so that you can’t function or when you’re so anxious that you feel sick, you might not be able to do your best.

Of course, if you didn’t study for the test, you might be worried-and for good reason. That kind of anxiety isn’t as easy to tackle because even if you find a way to calm down, you still might not know what the tight answers are. When you are prepared for a test and you get a handle on your anxiety, you’ll be ale to let your knowledge shine and score a good grade.

Exercise. Get fit. Watch your weight. We see these messages all around us in magazines and newspapers, but how do you choose the right activity?

There are three main goals for fitness. First, strengthening the heart and lungs. Second, strengthening the muscles. Third, controlling body weight. Not all activities will meet each goal. You may center on one goal or, for total fitness, all three.

Running

Swimming is a great way to strengthen different pasts of your body. But if weight loss is your goal, you may want to pass on the pool. The water in a swimming pool is cooler than our body temperature. The body naturally protects itself from the cold by keeping fat.

Cycling

Riding a bicycle will help you lose weight and work your leg muscles. But be careful! If you live in the city, stay on bike path, away from traffic. Or you can ride indoors on a stationary bike.

Weight lifting

We often hear of elderly people fallin g and hurting themselves. They just don’t have the strength to catch themselves. Lifting weights can prevent that. It also helps prevent injury form other activities. The drawback to weight lifting is that you’ll need to pay for a membership at a gym.

68. Running can help you a lot, but it can’t ______.

A. strengthen your heart and lungs

B. strengthen leg muscles

C. control body weight

D. prevent pains in your joints

lifting.

Let us begin by saying what causes our dreams. Our dreams do not come from another world. They are not messages from some outside source .They are not a look into the future, either.

All our dreams have something to do with our feelings, fears, longings, wishes, needs and memories. If a person is hungry, or tired, or cold , his dreams may include a feeling of this kind. If the covers on your body, such as a quilt or a blanket, have slipped off your bed, you may dream that you are sleeping on ice or in snow. The material for the dream you will have tonight is likely to come from the experience you have today.

So the subject of your dream usually comes from something that has effect on you while you are sleeping(feeling of cold, a noise, a discomfort, etc.)and it may also use your past experiences and the wishes and the interests you have now. This is why children are likely to dream of fairies, older children of school examinations, hungry people of food, home-sick soldiers of their families and prisoners of freedom.

To show you how this is happening while you are asleep and how your needs and wishes can all be joined together in a dream, here is the story of the experiment.

A man was asleep and the back of his hand was rubbed with a piece of soft cotton. He would dream he was in hospital and his charming girlfriend was visiting him, sitting on the bed and feeling gently his hands!

There are some scientists who have made a special study of why we dream, what we dream and what those dreams mean. Their explanation of dreams, though a bit reasonable, is not accepted by everyone but it offers an interesting approach to

the problem. They believe that dreams are mostly expressions of wishes that did not come true. In other words dreaming is a way of having your wishes carried out.

46. From the passage we know that our dreams .

A. are imagination of our daily life

B. are man’s curious look into the future

C. have nothing to do with our feelings

D. are to some degree connected with our feelings

47. In your dream when you feel like eating something it indicates(暗示)that .

A. you are in a state of being cold

B. you are in a state of being tired

C. you are in a state of hunger

D. you should have had your dinner that day

48. Older children often dream of examinations probably because .

A. they are interested in exams

B. they are often worried about their studies

C. they hope for better life

D. they show much interest in their studies

49. Some scientists’ explanation of dreams .

A. is not widely accepted though a bit reasonable

B. gives an exact description of our life

C. provides us with information of dreams

D. is of no use for us

D

Members of an elephant family may be out of sight but they are always in the minds of the herd’s matriarchs (象群的女家长), researchers have found.

Tests have found that female elephants are able to remember the whereabouts of at least 17 family members simultaneously and perhaps as many as 30. They watch which

of their relations are ahead of them when the herd searches for food, which of them are lagging behind and which are traveling in separate groups.

Professor Richard Byrne, of the University of St Andrews, said that the elephants performed a good memory by being able to recall where each of their relatives was in a changing environment. “It’s hard enough for us to watch two or three children in a busy shopping centre. Imagine trying to do it with 30 or so,” he said.

Researchers tested the ability of African elephants to remember where each family member had got to. Elephants have poor eyesight but an excellent sense of smell and are able to identify (鉴别) one another from traces of urine (尿) on the ground.

To test the memories of the elephants, samples of urine-soaked earth were collected by researchers and placed in positions where a herd was about to pass. Observations showed that the animals exhibited surprise when they could detect the odor of a family member they knew was behind them. Interest was shown when the urine was that of a close relative traveling in the same group or in a separate herd, but samples left by unknown individuals were ignored.

The researchers, who reported their findings in the journal Biology Letters, concluded: “ It seems that female elephants have a general interest in monitoring family members with whom they are traveling. Elephants’ order of traveling often changes and overtaking is common, suggesting that elephants must frequently update their expectation of where others are in relation to themselves.”

73. According to the passage, female elephants .

A. are usually stronger than male elephants

B. usually stay at home while male elephants search for food

C. can remember where their family members are while traveling

D. can recognize the odor of human beings

74. The third paragraph is developed by .

A. space

B. frequency

C. time

D. comparison

75. Elephants identify their family members mainly by using their .

A. eyes

B. nose

C. ears

D. mouth

76. What’s the researchers’ conclusion about their findings?

A. Male elephants have no interest in other family members.

B. An elephant never goes to search for food alone.

C. Elephants don’t stay in the same order while traveling in groups.

D. Elephants’ abilities to survive are beyond our expectations.

第二节(七选五共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。Have you ever wondered why birds sing? 61 After all, you probably sing or whistle when you are happy.

Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy.

62 Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory. Do you know what a "territory" is? A territory is an area that an animal, usually the male, claims(声称) as its won. Only he and his family are welcome there. No other families of the same species are welcome. Your yard and house are your territory where only your family and friends are welcome. If a stranger should enter your territory and threaten you, you might shout. 63 If so, you have actually scared the stranger away without having to fight him. 64 But he expects an outsider almost all the time, especially at nesting(筑巢) season. So he is screaming all the time, whether he can see an outsider or not. This screaming is what we call a bird' s song, and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away.

Birds sing loudest in the spring when they are trying to attract a mate and warn others not to enter the territory of theirs.

65 Most of it has to do with attracting males and setting up territories.

A. A bird does the same thing.

B. Maybe you thought that they were just happy.

C. Shouting loudly is just like a bird's screaming.

D. You can see that birds have a language all their own.

E. Probably this would be enough to frighten him away.

F. However they sing most of the time for a very different reason.

G. So, just like human beings, birds sing for almost the same reasons.

Fire!” What terrible words to hear when one wakes up in a strange house in the middle of the night! It was a large, old, wooden house and my room was on the top floor. I jumped out of bed, opened the door and stepped outside the house. There was full of thick smoke. I began to run, but as I was still only half-awake, instead of going towards the stairs I went in the opposite direction. The smoke grew thicker and I could see fire all around. The floor became hot under my bare(赤裸的)feet. I found an open door and ran into a room to get to the window. But before I could reach it, one of my feet caught in something soft and I fell down. The thing I had fallen over felt like a bundle(包袱)of clothes, and I picked it up to protect my face from the smoke and heat. Just then the floor gave way under me and I crashed to the floor below with pieces of burning wood all around me. I saw a doorway in fire, then I put the bundle over my face and ran. My feet burned me terrible, but I got through. As I reached the cold air outside, my bundle of clothes gave a thin cry, I nearly dropped it in my surprise. Then I was in a crowd gathered in the street. A woman in a night-dress and a borrowed man’s coat screamed as she saw me and came running madly. She was the Mayor’s wife, and I had saved her baby. 1. 2019年重庆市永川三中高一英语寒假作业(八)

高一英语寒假作业 I.阅读理解 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和D)中,选出最佳选项. A I have a story about raising free-range (自由放养) kids. This past Columbus Day, my husband and I went fishing with some friends on their boat while our10 and 8-year-old kids were in school. We left the house all at the same time, about 7 a. m. My children walked to and from school every day and we knew they would be OK for a couple hours by themselves anyway. We told them to go home after school and we would be home around 4 p. m. We live on the Gulf Coast, and since it was a beautiful day, all of the adults decided to go fishing off-shore. At around 2 p. m. after a good harvest from the sea, we started back to the shore and unfortunately after some time, we ran out of gas. We were out of cellphone service, and what was even worse was that 911 wasn’t working. We didn’t have a radio either. Therefore, we were stuck waiting for someone to pass by. We were out there until 10 p. m. All the while my children were at home, expecting us to return shortly after they got home. At about 7 p. m. , when it was getting dark, my 10-year-old daughter thought something might be wrong so she walked to each house on the street until someone answered the door and asked the person what they should do. This was how we were finally found by the game warden (管理员) on the coast and “rescued”. Talking with that neighbor the next day, I was never so proud of my children. This neighbour explained to me, “What calmness both of your children showed when explaining the situation and how im pressed I was with your children seeking help, even though they didn’t know me.” I never doubted him for a minute, though next time we go fishing we’ll monitor the gas more carefully. 1.What did the author probably feel at the very start of returning to the shore? A Anxious. B. Frightened. C. Pleased. D. Disappointed. 2.Why couldn’t the parents call their children when going back to the shore? A. They didn’t carry a radio. B. Their boat was out of gas. C. They believed in their children. D. There was no phone signal there. 3.What was the author’s reaction to his neighbor’s words? A. He thanked his neighbor. B. He was not surprised. C. He didn’t agree with his neighbor. D. He needed to think for himself. 4.What is the best title for the text? A. Stuck on the Sea B. A Brave Girl C. A Thrilling Experience D. Lost at Sea B Painkillers (止痛药) are turning out to be a real pain: according to a new study in the British Medical Journal. Taking them for just a week can increase your risk of heart attack by 50%. The research suggested that the risk related to the use of certain drugs was greatest with higher doses (服用量) and during the first month of use. The potential risk may increase by 75% for medicines like ibuprofen (布洛芬) and naproxen, and more than 100% for rofecoxib. It all sounds bad but, your risk is very low, — say, one in a million — a 100% increase means
