"When we heard about the opportunity to move a building this size, we knew that there was never a building moved this size in the state of Louisiana," he said．"We knew that because of the oak trees and neutral ground and the narrow streets, we may never get the opportunity in our hometown again to do something like this．

Cancienne said the cost of the huge project weighs in at $350,000, but he' s not making any profit from the move．Cancienne said his team wanted to do the project for free because of the once in a lifetime opportunity．"When my guys heard that this opportunity was here, they said, ‘Let' s do it for free．We got to get it．No one else can do it．' And, so, we said let’s just cover our cost so we bid it at $ 350,000．"

Cancienne' s company is used to moving homes across the city, but is happy to partake in the monumental task of moving a historic landmark．The building won' t remain at its current destination on Banks Street, though．It will eventually move to its permanent location once that has been determined．

SPEAKING in front of groups may not be a big deal for some people, and there are those who probably sail through their careers without ever having to do so．When I was studying for my C．P．A．, I was sure that I d be safe．But life isn’t predictable．I ended up in a career that depends on public speaking．

Cities could soon be looking after their citizens all by themselves thanks to an operating system（OS）designed for the metropolis．

The Urban OS works just like a PC operating system but keeps buildings 9 traffic and services running smoothly．

The software takes in data from sensors dotted around the city to keep an eye on what is happening．

In the event of a fire the Urban OS might manage traffic lights so fire engines can reach the blaze swiftly．

The idea is for the Urban OS to gather data from sensors buried in buildings and many other places to keep an eye on what is happening in an urban area．

The sensors monitor everything from large scale events such as traffic flows across the entire city down to more local phenomena such as temperature sensors inside individual rooms．The OS completely bypasses humans to manage communication between sensors and devices such as traffic lights, air conditioning or water pumps that influence the quality of city life．

Channeling all the data coming from these sensors and services into a over-arching control system had lots of benefits, said Steve Lewis, head of Living Plan FT-the company behind Urban OS．The system can help with monitoring patients at hospitals．

Urban OS should mean buildings get managed better and gathering the data from lots of sources gives a broader view of key city services such as traffic flows, energy use and water levels．

" If you were using an anatomy analogy, the city has a network like the nervous system, talking to a whole bunch of sensors gathering the data and causing actions," said Mr．Lewis．" We distribute that nervous system into the parts of the body—the buildings, the streets and other things．

Having one platform managing the entire urban landscape of a city means significant cost savings, implementation consistency, quality and manageability, he added．

“And it' s got local computing capacity to allow a building or an automotive platform to interact with people where they are, managing the energy, water, waste, transportation, logistics and human interaction in those areas．"

That' s dealt with by the building itself, with the devices very locally talking to each other to figure out what' s the best solution for the current dilemma．

DOYLESTOWN STATION, Pa．（CBS）—Marie Buonanno has boxes of holiday lights to decorate her house．She already has one tree up in her living room and a nativity scene．But this holiday season, she would not dare decorate outside．

" It is very disappointing that we can' t celebrate the Christmas holiday the way that we religiously choose to," says Buonanno．

Her home only has a holiday wreath on the door, since the Doylestown Station Condominium Association told her the bylaws do not allow colored Christmas lights．Last year, she was fined $400, $ 10 for each day her lights were up．But she says she was the only one slapped with a fine．

"One of my neighbors that I spoke to a few days ago, who decorates with multicolored lights, says he never got a letter of warning or a fine．"

Only white, non-blinking lights are allowed outside．And you can only put up a single white, blue, or orange light in your windows．Neighbors collected 62 signatures to ask the Association board to allow colored Christmas lights．In response, the Association sent out a survey．Out of 38 total responses, 19 voted for white lights, 14 voted for colored non-blinking lights, and 5 voted for colored blinking．The board said the vote was 19-14 against colored lights, interpreting the 5 votes as a separate category．

"As long as it" s tasteful," says neighbor Marc Udell, "let the community do what the community is going to do．"

No one answered the door at the Association president* s house．Some neighbors say they like the look of white lights．

"Some colored lights are pretty and they have their place in neighborhoods, but you never really know how far people are going to go with them," says Jeff Edwards．

It will be a holiday of white lights for Buonanno and her neighborhood．She says for now she will miss her colored lights and the holiday cheer they brought to her home．
