There are varieties of cars. The following might hit the market in the near future.

1. The Air Powered Car

Peugeot has developed a new and cheaper hybrid car that can run using petrol and compressed (被压缩的) air. The car will automatically use air when driving under 69 kph and can use either air or petrol (or both) at faster speed. Using compressed air instead of batteries is a greener way of producing energy since there are fewer harmful materials released. However, because of the dangers of using compressed air, this is still the work in progress.

2. The self-driving Car

Google has presented a car that doesn’t need the driver to do anything at all except start it and input the target destination. The car can detect its surroundings through a radar system on top that has a range of 180 m eters. It’s excellent at avoiding accidents, although the current model only has a maximum speed of 40 kph.

3. The Batmobile

Okay, it’s not exactly the Batmobile. But this is the closest we could possibly have to batman’s super car in the next couple of years. The GF7 jet car can reach up to 160 kph on the ground. It can then open its seven-meter folding wings and fly up to an altitude of 12,000 meters at speeds of up to 885 kph. When on the ground, the car will be powered by electric motors, which are then recharged by the jet engine during flight mode.

21. The Air Powered Car .

A. uses only compressed air to speed up

B. is a green and safe vehicle

C. uses petrol when driving under 69 kph

D. release fewer harmful materials when driving

22. What can we learn from the self-driving Car?

A. It helps people avoid being stuck on the road.

B. It helps people cut their transportation costs.

C. It gives people more time do other things.

D. It enables people to reach places not accessible by traditional vehicles.

23. What is the biggest advantage of the GF7?

B. It can fly high in the sky.

C. It helps reduce traffic accidents.

D. It uses petrol during flying mode.

The Water Splashing Festival is a traditional festival for the Dai people in the Dehong area, Yunnan Province in southwest China. It is the New Year for Dai held at the 13th

to 15th of the 4th month of the year with a 3-day celebration.

For the Dai, water is the symbol of holiness (神圣), goodness and

purity, and is the most precious thing. During the festival, men and

women involve themselves in the celebration of water splashing.

During the festival, the door of every house is decorated with

colorful pieces of paper. All the villagers wear their best holiday clothes.

Sheep and cows are killed for feasting, and delicious rice cakes, rice

noodles and rice wine are served. The occasion is marked by a variety of entertainments.

On the eve of the first day of the festival, fireworks lighten the sky and the Dai people hold dragon boat races. On the second day, according to custom, people usually stay at home. The third day is regarded as New Year’s Day. In the morning, people dress up and go to the temple to worship Buddha. They make three to five pagoda-shaped (塔形的) sand piles over one meter tall and plant eight bamboo shoots on the top wrapped in red and green strips. They then sit around the pagodas to listen respectfully to scriptures (经文) and historical legends, and pray for good weather and future generations. In the afternoon, every woman will carry fresh water to clean the Buddha statue, so she might get his blessing. People then splash water on each other to symbolize the blessing, washing away sickness and disaster with holy water for a happy life.

The Water Splashing Festival vividly exhibits the Dai people’s respect for water and the culture of music and dance, food and costumes. It is also a cultural bridge between South China and Southeast Asian countries, which share the same festive culture of water splashing.

24. Which of the following is NOT TRUE about the Water Splashing Festival?

A. It is a traditional festival for the Dai people in Yunnan Province.

B. Stay at home.

C. Dress up and go to the temple.

D. Dance and sing in the evening.

26. Why do the Dai people splash each other with water after washing the Buddha statue?

A. They regard it as a way of praying for their future generations.

B. They believe it can wash away disaster and bring happiness.

C. They think it is the best way to show their respect for others.

D. They think water is the most precious thing in their life.

27. What can be inferred from the passage?

A. Water is the symbol of goodness and purity on the water splashing festival.

C. T he water splashing festival shows the Dai people’s love for water.

D. Thailand shares the same festive culture of water splashing.

When you go for a run outside, chances are that you’ll find litter all around you. Do you just go past it, or do you stop and pick it up? If you choose the latter, you are part of the latest fitness trend that’s sweeping the West: plogging.

The word “plogging” combines the Swedish phrase “plocka upp” (pick up) with the English word “jogging”.Running –especially marathons –is often associated with good causes. And plogging, which combines environmentalism with fitness, has become the new poster boy for the environmentally-friendly runner. All a plogger needs is a trash bag, and ideally a pair of gloves to protect their hands.

The process of collecting garbage is simple, but it benefits serious environment. “When I usually wa lk through the streets of New York, the sight of newspapers, lost hats, and broken glass doesn’t bother me,” Matthew Sedacca of Men’s Health magazine wrote. “But when I was plogging and focused on trash collecting, the amount of garbage strewn (散布) across the sidewalks and along the pavement was kind of shocking.”

While collecting garbage, ploggers learn to classify and deal with it correctly too. Laura Lindberg, a plogger who lives in New Jersey, US, always keeps a note of what she’s collected in her mind. This way, she knows what can stay in her trash bag and what can go in a nearby recycling bin.

It may be difficult to measure the sense of self-satisfaction that comes from making the world a cleaner,

greener and more beautiful place, but the health benefits of plogging are easy to see.

According to the Swedish fitness app Lifesum, a 30-minute plogging session burns around 288 calories, compared to 235 calories burned from just jogging.

Charles F. Porter, US behavioral change therapist, also explained the additional actions a jogger needs to take for garbage collection. “You get the added benefit of carrying a few extra pounds, and you’re bending over and doing squats (蹲伏), which is a move that’s important to your everyday life. You’re getting a full body wo rkout,” he told finance website Moneyish.

So the next time you go out jogging, why not carry a trash bag and collect some litter along the way? Your body and the environment will thank you.

28. In what way are ploggers different from runners?

A. That ploggers persuade people not to litter.

B. That ploggers carry heavy bags while jogging.

C. That ploggers pick up trash while jogging.

D. That ploggers help people find their lost items.

29. Why does plogging benefit people more than jogging?

A. It exercises your whole body.

B. It helps you adjust your breath.

C. It requires more running skills.

D. It doubles the calories you burn.

30. What is the author’s attitude towards “plogger”?

A. Positive.

B. Neutral.

C. Doubtful.

D. Indifferent.

31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

A. Stopping Jogging

B. Only Ploggers Possess Health

C. Doing “Clean” Exercise

D. Fighting Against Pollution

D

Tiny as the y are, bats have the ability to “see” in the dark by using a special skill called echolocation. They make noises and wait for sound waves, or an echo(回音), to bounce back off objects. They can tell the distance of various objects by how quickly the sound waves bounce back off them. If no sound bounces back, they can then fly forward.

This special ability has been simulated in the human world for a long time, such as in submarines and planes, whose sonar (声呐) systems are somewhat similar to echolocation. But apart from helping vehicles “see” where they are, what if blind people could use echolocation for themselves? It turns out, some already are. American Daniel Kish, who is blind, is known as “Batman”. This isn’t because he walks around in a cape (披风) and a mask, but because he has a bat-like ability to locate where he is through sharp clicks he makes by moving his tongue against the roof of his mouth. Kish is so skilled at echolocating that he can ride a bike and hike on his own.

Recently, research carried out at the University of Durham in England shed some light on the power of human echolocation. Kish worked with a group of scientists who studied the way blind people listen to the echoes that they produce from clicks. The team, which conducted experiments with other volunteers, found that people were capable of hearing even very weak echoes, ones far weaker than had been previously thought.

Speaking to The Independent, Lore Thaler, lead scientist of the group, said, “We found that in some conditions, they were really weak – about 95 percent softer than the actual clicks, but the echolocators were still able to sense this.” Andrew Kolarik of the University of Cambridge is another expert in echolocation. Reacting to the Durham study, he told BBC Ne ws that echolocation “can be very useful at providing information at face or chest height” and could help people “avoid objects like low hanging bran ches that might not get detected by the cane (盲杖) or a guide dog”.

Although Kish’s skill is remarkable, there’s hope for other blind people who want to use echolocation. According to BBC News, echolocation is a skill blind people can acquire and develop, just like learning a language. As Kolarik said, “Teaching echolocation skills could provide blind people with the means of exploring new places.”

32. What does the underlined word “simulated” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

A. copied

B. found

C. improved

D. developed

33. Why can Kish walk like a normal person?

A. Because he uses his great sense of hearing.

B. Because he listens to the echoes produced by his cane.

C. Because he is helped by the echoes from the clicks he makes with his tongue.

D. Because he has a sonar system attached to his body.

34. What did Lore Thaler’s team find from their studies?

A. It is hard for echolocators to sense weak echoes.

B. Humans can echolocate better than we thought.

C. Echolocators can pick up all types of echoes.

D. Blind people are better echolocators than those who can see.

35. Where is the passage most probably taken from?

A. An advertisement.

B. A science magazine.

C. A science fiction.

D. A questionnaire.

How to Make Plans for Your Success

If you are going to succeed, you need to have a set of plans to follow. You need to know where you are going, how you are going to get there and what needs to be done. Below is my advice. 36 .

1. Start by projecting forward to your goals.

Guessing what will happen is hard. It takes imagination, thought and planning. 37 It will probably take time and hard work, but the benefits are more than you can imagine. When you know exactly what you need to do and by what date something needs to be completed, you will find ways, opportunities and time that you never believed you had.

2. 38 .

The plans aren’t written in stone. They can be changed. You will either be ahead or behind in your plans when unexpected circumstances arise. And you can update your plans. Every successful new company has had a clear plan to start with, even if that isn’t where they have ended up. On the other hand, the companies that didn’t have plans and that saw planning as unnecessary did n’t go anywhere, anyway. 39 .

3. Update your plans based on reality.

Whenever a situation arises, either positive or negative, you will have a basis on which to evaluate it. How can you use this situation to move towards your goals? What problems need solving? Where are you going exactly? Do you need to change your plans? 40 The ability to update your plans based on reality is just as an important part of your success as all the other factors

A. It helps you to have a plan.

B. Change your plans when necessary.

C. By having a plan you can use every opportunity.

D. But that is why you need to create a complete plan.

E. You can use the situation as an opportunity to change.

F. It should make even the toughest of goals easier to achieve.

G: Don’t let this be you, and correct or adjust your plan when you need to.
