He nodded and turned back to the phone, then stopped and looked at me. “What?” I told him again, and I was so surprised to see everyone stop what they were doing to watch me as if I had just grown another head. You can get a lot from being healthy. Everyone needs to take time to exercise. There are lots of ways to improve your health without having to join a gym. Here are some tips on how to make better use of your free time while staying healthy.

By keeping physically active, you’re making sure that your joints (关节) and body organs (器官) are kept in good working order. Exercise can also help keep your weight at a healthy level and can protect you against catching coughs and colds. Other benefits are increases in your energy level and brain activity. Knowing that you’re looking and feeling good can also increase your self-confidence.

If you’re under 18, you should try to do a total of 60 minutes of physical exercise every day. This includes anything f rom taking the lift at the gym to walking up stairs. If you’re over 18, you need at least 30 minutes of exercise at least five days a week.

Getting fit isn’t all about gyms —some forms of exercise won’t cost you any money, and most forms can be easily used in your busy life without having to find some special time in your day. For example, riding a bike to school, college or work, and even running on a playground a few times a week can improve your fitness level.

Getting fit isn’t just something you have to do by yourself. Playing team sports like football or basketball is great exercise, and it is often more enjoyable because you’re playing with a group of friends.

A group that rescues wildlife has started to search for land and money to build a wildlife hospital in San Francisco.

“About 40 volunteers care for injured animals in their homes,”the founder Jamie Ray said. Ray presented her proposal (提议) to build a $2 million wildlife hospital and nature center to environment commissioners (专员) recently. “What we need is to be able to build a 100-foot-long flight aviary (鸟舍) for recovering birds and to have water pools for recovering water birds,”Ray said.

She hopes they will open by the end of 2010, and will be able to care for oiled birds after more than 50,000 gallons of fuel flowed into the Bay.

“For any animal, whether it is oiled, injured or anything else, getting it immediate care is important to its survival,” she said.

Department employees drive as many as 350 injured animals every year to a wildlife hospital, according to Friedman. He said around 80 percent of those animals were birds. “It would be wonderful to have a wildlife rehabilitation center (康复中心) here in San Fr ancisco,” Friedman said.

Ray’s proposal includes aviaries as well as a nature education center and outdoor picnic area. She has suggested building the center at Lake Merced or in western Golden Gate Park. A parking lot, soccer field and storage area are presently being planned for construction at the Golden Gate Park site. 书面表达(One possible version)

I am a panda from Wolong, Sichuan Province. I live on bamboo. I am a good friend to humans and have helped them a lot in some meaningful ways. For example, some of my fellows have been sent to other countries to help increase friendship between peoples.

Unfortunately, however, the number of pandas has greatly decreased over the years for all kinds of reasons, such as climate change, shortage of bamboo, hunting, etc. Now, only about 1,500 pandas are left in the world. That is to say, we are endangered animals.

Although a lot of measures have been taken to protect us, which I really appreciate, there are a few people who are still doing harmful things to us. So I hope that what I say here can help raise the awareness of those people to protect us from extinction.

M: Ladies and gentlemen, let’s welcome Jane, a Japanese student studying in Britain. Hello, Jane. How long have you been studying in Britain?

W: About three years.

M: So, what differences do you notice between the two countries?

W: Well, the biggest difference is the people. They are not as open-minded as Americans, rather cold really. But once you have made a friend, it’s a friend for life. But it usually takes some time.

M: What about their way of life?

W: Well, it’s certainly more relaxed here. In Japan people work a lot harder than you do. Our work always comes first. It’s the speed of life that I find rather tiring.

M: What do you think of English food?

W: It’s healthy. But I wouldn’t like to have it every day. It’s rather —I wouldn’t say dull — but has less flavor. You know in Japan we like sushi; English people eat fish and chips and it’s not quite the same.

M: What about the weather?

W: It’s changeable. I prefer the summer here to the winter. Anyway, I like this country.

Text 9

W: I really don’t know what to do this summer. I want to get a job to gain some work experience.

M: Why don’t you try house-sitting? Last summer my friend Mary house-sat for the Greens when they went away on vacation. Mrs. Green hired Mary to stay i n their house, because they didn’t want their house left empty.

W: You mean the Greens paid Mary just to live in their house?

M: It wasn’t that easy. She had to take care of their pets and water the house plants.

W: That sounds like a good job. It’s a litt le like baby-sitting — but you are taking care of houses instead of children.

M: Before you get this kind of job, you must have an interview with the homeowner.

W: That seems like a lot of trouble.

M: You know, the homeowners want to make sure you are not the type who will hold wild parties in their houses, or move a group of friends in with you.

Text 10

Panda is a small horse about 60 cm tall. She is a “guide horse” for the blind. The two-year-old was taught by her trainers to help blind people in the same way as guide dogs. She stops when she crosses busy roads or when the roads are not good. She can get in and out of a car, go up and down stairs and is completely house trained. And as a guide animal, Panda is allowed to go with her owner Ann Edie in shopping centers, supermarkets and even on planes.

Panda is one of the only two small horses in the world that have been trained for the job. Her American trainers at The Guide Horse Foundation say that small horses often make better guides than dogs.

Some blind people grow up with the animals and some want a companion that will live longer than a dog. This kind of guide horse is specially trained for these people. Mrs. Edie has been blind since birth. She said, “Panda could live for 30 years. She’s become li ke a dance partner. She moves with me and can understand

what I mean and feel.”

高三英语上学期第十五周周练试题

横峰中学2016-17学年度上学期周练(第15周) 高三年级英语试卷 考试日期:12月6日 阅读理解: A Counterfeit (假冒的) goods, or false versions of products, may cost the government of Kenya as much as $1 billion each year. The fake goods also hurt business owners who find it hard to keep customers. But information technology is being used to try to stop the problem. Jemima Mwafigu is a 34-year-old businesswoman who sells products like perfume. But in the first year of running her business, she found it hard to keep customers because of counterfeit goods. Ms. Mwafigu says her business has improved since she began using a smart phone application called Barcode (条码) Scanner. The app is used to authenticate (验证) products. It checks to make sure the products are not counterfeit. “With this application I'm able to scan the bar codes of each perfume and instantly I get the production date, the expiration date and I'm able to know the safety,” she says. “That way, I have confidence in selling to my customers.” In 2010, Kenya created the Anti-Counterfeit Agency, or ACA, to fight against illegal trade. The ACA has successfully asked government officials for stronger punishments for counterfeiters. Agnes Karingu is the agency’s acting director for research and awareness. She says the ACA is trying to stay one step ahead of those making fake goods. “We are also looking into IT solutions where we can be able to use SMS progr ams, bar codes and information sharing,” she says. “The end users of the products will actually be able to get the authentication information, and this information comes back to ACA and intellectual pr operty rights holders.” The agency is testing another program called Allvirtuous. The application is another way to find out if a product is real or not by scanning its barcode. The barcode information is sent to a database. Then a result is sent back to the app. The International Chamber of Commerce is a global business organization. It says the value of counterfeit goods produced around the world is expected to be more than $1.7 trillion (万亿) this year.
