The great power of tornadoes (龙卷风) is almost impossible to imagine. The speed of its wind may be more than 80 kilometers an hour. It can knock over trees, carry buildings away, and even lift large trucks off the highway. The tornado is like a huge vacuum (真空) cleaner that takes in anything in its path. Experts believe that the center of the tornado is the strongest part, because the air pressure (压力) in this part is very low. When the tornado moves over a building which is filled with air under normal(正常的) pressure, the difference between the air pressure inside the building and that outside causes the building to fall down. The largest tornado on record had a center that was two kilometers wide.

There are many interesting stories about the strange things that tornadoes have done in the world. Piles of wheat have been blown several meters onto trees. Buildings have been turned around and have stayed as a whole. People and animals have been carried hundreds of meters, although they were not hurt. Feathers (羽毛) have been removed from chicken. Cars, trucks, and even whole trains have been carried away.

A few years ago in Japan, three people were walking into a building just as a tornado came. Two walked up the steps into the building and the third person went down into the basement (underground room). At that moment, the building was carded away and the two people upstairs were killed. The one in the basement was not hurt. Luckily, a tornado does not last long, only about 20 to 30 minutes usually. Often, it destroys (摧毁) an area (区域) of about 26 kilometers long in only 30 seconds. Tornadoes usually take place on hot, wet days but not necessarily in summer. The biggest and most terrible tornado in the United States came on March 18, 1925. Roaring (咆哮) along at a speed of 96 kilometers an hour, it swept a path two kilometers wide

across the country. In its 354-kilometer-long journey, the tornado killed 689 people.

More than 200 tornadoes happen in the United States every year. It is not possible to tell when a tornado will come although the U. S . Weather Bureau gives storm warning when a tornado seems likely to come. The safest place during a tornado is in an underground area such as a basement.

There is no other five-year-old like him. He has a potato-shaped head and a voice that is not easily forgotten. He is not a trouble maker, but trouble follows him wherever he goes.

Crayon Shinchan (蜡笔小新) enjoys great popularity in China. He has many fans in Hong Kong, Taiwan and on the mainland. And he is one of the hottest cartoon characters (卡通人物) in his home country, Japan.

But, the trouble-maker's show was thought to be the No. 1 most unwanted cartoon program by Japan's Parents' Association (家长协会) on April 18.

More than half the parents who took part in the study thought Shinchan was not a good model for children. They believed his actions and words were grown-up in nature and not fit for kids.

Many parents and education experts in China agree with them. Shinchan, they say, is really offensive. "Crayon Shinchan is full of dirty humor (幽默). The boy shows some terrible thinking which doesn' t match his age," said a teacher from Beijing Normal University. The teacher further pointed out that Shinchan destroys the image (形象) of a polite, hard-working boy. She is afraid that some children may copy his action and harm their psychological (心理的) development.

The teacher and many others in China think thru Shinchan is a cartoon for grown-ups, not for children.

But some, kids disagree. Jiangxin, a middle school student in Beijing, became a fan of Shinchan after he first saw the cartoon two years ago. He said it was Shinchan's humor, courage (勇气), and cleverness that made him and his friends love the little cartoon character. "Shinchan looks at the grown-ups' world with a kid's eyes," said Jiang. "We watch it just for fun." But Jiang also agreed that Shinchan is not good for all ages. "It may not be fit for little kids. They may try to blindly copy him."

Shinchan's "father", Japan's popular cartoonist (漫画家), Yoshito Usui, never thought Shinchan would result in such a discussion.

He said that Shinchan is a childish copy of Japan's middle-aged men. The boy does everything that grown-ups would like to do, but don't dare to do. "People can easily excuse him because he's only five years old," said Yoshito.

Maybe you are an average (一般的) student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here's how.

Plan your time carefully. When planning your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a plan of your time. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.

Develop a good attitude (态度) to tests. The purpose (目的) of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won't end if you don' t pass a test, so don't be overly worried.

2018年秋期九（1）班英语期末考试总结及反思一、试卷评析考卷总体来说，相对容易，有对基础知识考核的环节，也有考查学生运用所学知识解决实际问题的能力，试卷紧扣教材，突出重点，更侧重于对双基能力的考查。（1）选择填空考查得比较细，大部分很基础。主要考查学生对课本知识的掌握情况，知识覆盖面较广，较细，重点、难点突出。但也有个别题目相对较难。（2）完形填空与阅读理解题量较大，取材都比较好，贴近现实，对学生很有教育，通过做这个题，读其内容，学生会意识到学习不仅仅在学校而校外的学习也很重要。（3）书面表达与课本内容有着极大的相似之处，是对教材的深加工，做到了学以致用。虽然比较贴近学生生活，但由于大部分同学基础很薄弱，所以效果不甚理想。二、学生情况分析本次考试，从分数上看，学生两极分化相当严重。从这次考试也看出一些问题，学生基础知识太薄弱，掌握不太牢，每个大题丢分都有。基础知识和基本技能不扎实，学生对一些基本词汇、语法、句型的掌握不够熟练。所以非选择题空白的较多，造成及格人数太少。三、失分情况和原因 1.听力题：失分较多的是第三节。在这个题当中可以反映出学生听完材料之后，无法填出相应的关键词，而且学生的理解能力差。 2.短文填空：本题所给的语篇较长，难度较大，因此失分较多。 3.学生在阅读这块失分较多。第一，学生阅读习惯需要进一步培养，很多学生只是对照题目单纯找答案，而不是认真反复地看文章，缺乏耐心。第二，部分学生只能理解文章的表面意思，不能透过现象理解出作者的言外之意。

4.词语运用：根据句意填单词（每空一词），使句子完整、语法正确这题失分也比较多，可见学生在不同语境中灵活运用单词的能力欠缺。 5.书面表达：在整个卷子当中失分较多的是书面表达，要写好这个作文要一定的单词量和语法知识四．问题分析 1. 平时我对学生不够严厉，如果学生不能够回答出我在上课反复强调的知识，我一般只是提醒，并无惩罚措施。学生在课堂上有时候开小差，一般也只是点名批评，对屡次犯错误的学生，没有严加管教。 2. 应该每天听写单词和词组，可单词和词组是学生最头痛的事，学生们都说他们记不住，部分学生对英语学习失去兴趣，学生两极分化的明显出现很大程度上是没过好词汇关，这些学生记单词只会死记硬背，但不会读，这样是学不好英语的。因此，一定要注重课堂词汇教学，让学生掌握一定的学习单词的方法，按读音规则认读、记忆单词而不是死记硬背，当学生感悟到记单词不再困难时，他们的英语学习也就迈出了很可喜的坚实的基础一步，他们对英语学习才会真正感兴趣。 3. 这次考试学生听力丢分较多，在今后的教学中要有意识地加强学生听读能力的训练与培养，重点训练学生的阅读和听的习惯的培养。课外还要多选用一些内容健康，时代感强、知识性、趣味性并存的短文来让学生阅读，通过大量阅读来培养学生的语感以及通过上下文捕捉信息的能力，从而提高阅读，理解，分析，判断的能力。 4. 实行分层次教学，降低对差生的要求，比如让成绩好些的学生背课文时，其他学生能读熟就可以了，检查单词和词组时，要求差生写对一半就算优秀，这样他下次会背单词背的更好！这样才能让每个学生有成就感，逐步提高学习英语的兴趣 5.做好补差工作，缩小两极分化，从测试情况看，英语学习已明显出现两极分化现象。由于知识点的深化，学生的个体差异以及多种内外在因素，学生学习上的两极分化是客观存在的，但我们一定要通过我、家长、包括学生本人的不懈努力，力争减少差生，使他们在英语学习上不断进步，这就需要我真正的去爱
