尊敬的习近平主席和夫人，

尊敬的巴赫主席和夫人，

尊敬的潘基文秘书长，

尊敬的各位来宾，女士们，先生们，青年朋友们：

今晚，美丽的中国历史文化名城南京华灯璀璨、青春飞扬，来自五大洲的青年朋友和各方嘉宾，将共同迎来第二届夏季青年奥林匹克运动会隆重开幕。在此，我谨代表南京青奥会组委会，向来自世界各国各地区的青年朋友们和各位嘉宾表示热烈的欢迎！向国际奥委会、各国际单项体育联合会，向为本届青奥会付出辛勤努力的各界人士和所有关心支持青奥会的朋友们表示衷心的感谢！

青年奥林匹克运动会融合体育、文化和教育，是世界青年欢聚的庆典、梦想的舞台。举办青奥会，将激励广大青年参与体育运动，弘扬卓越、友谊、尊重的奥林匹克价值观，并从文化教育活动中获得有益的知识与技能。青奥会来到中国，在南京举办，是中国人民的共同愿望，也是江苏儿女的美好期待。在这里，奥林匹克精神将进一步发扬光大，中国梦、青春梦与世界各国人民的梦想相互交融，将对人类文明进步与繁荣发展产生重要影响。

南京青奥会成功申办以来，在中国政府的正确领导下，在国际奥委会的指导帮助下，我们秉承活力青奥、人文青奥、绿色青奥的理念，集各方之力有效开展筹办工作，兑现向国际奥委会作出的郑重承诺，为世界青年朋友搭建起体育竞赛和文化教育交流的舞台。

青奥会的帷幕即将拉开。我们热忱祝愿参赛选手在青奥会赛场上奋力拼搏、争创佳绩，真诚期盼青年朋友们在青奥会舞台上分享青春、共筑未来。让我们携起手来，共同创造一届精彩的青春盛会、体育盛会、文化盛会，为推动奥林匹克事业蓬勃发展、增进世界各国人民友谊，作出积极贡献。

NANJING, Aug 16. - Full text of a speech by NYOGOC chairman LI Xueyong (CHN) to the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Youth Games, Nanjing 2014.

Your Excellency President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan, Your Excellency President Thomas Bach and Mrs Bach, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, Young Friends,

Tonight, the beautiful historical and cultural city of Nanjing is brimming over with glamour and youthful vitality as young people and guests from across the five continents have gathered here for the grand opening of the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games. On behalf of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, I would like to extend my warm welcome to all our young friends and

guests from around the world, and express my heartfelt thanks to the International Olympic Committee, the International Sport Federations, people from all sectors who have helped prepare for the Games, and friends who have given their full attention and lent their support to the Games.

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) combines sports with culture and education, and offers young people from around the world a stage to celebrate and fulfil their dreams. The YOG can encourage young people to take part in sports, promote the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect and acquire knowledge and develop skills through cultural and educational activities. Staging the YOG here in Nanjing is a dream come true for China and for the people of Jiangsu Province in particular. The Olympic spirit will shine bright here. The Chinese dream and the aspirations of the youth and people from all over the world will come together to play a significant role in the progress and prosperity of human civilisation.

Ever since Nanjing won the bid to host the YOG, we have pooled resources from all sectors to prepare for a dynamic, cultural, and green YOG, under the leadership of the Chinese government and the guidance of the IOC. We want to honour our commitment to the IOC and build for young friends from around the world a stage for sports competition as well as cultural and educational exchanges.

The YOG is about to open. We would like to wish all participating athletes great success in the field of play, and we hope that our young friends will all get to “Share the Games, Share Our Dreams”. Let’s work together to present a spectacular celebration of sports and culture for the youth, and contribute to the thriving Olympic Movement and greater friendship between people across the world.

I now have the great honour to invite IOC President Thomas Bach to address the Ceremony.

Your Excellency XI Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, Your Excellency BAN Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, Excellencies, Dear Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Nanjing Nihau, China Nihau,

Dear young athletes. These are your Games. This is your moment. So young athletes please join me, let us all capture it –so get your smart phones out and let’s set the record for selfies … By se nding this selfie with the hashtag “YOG selfie” , you are sending a strong message around the world:

You are showing your passion for sport and for fair competition. You are demonstrating that Olympic sport reaches beyond competition. It is also about sharing, learning and making friends across the globe. You are here to enjoy the competitions and to deliver your personal best performance.
