Farmer John and Farmer Bob were neighbours. For more than 30 years, they were getting along very well.

Then their good relationship（关系）broke. It began with a small thing, then bitter（仇恨的）words, and then weeks of silence（沉默）. One morning Farmer John woke up to find a stream（小溪）between the two farms. “It must be Bob,” John thought.

Every country has a holiday to honor mothers and their influence on society. The most common day for this celebration is the second Sunday in May.

The idea to have a holiday just for celebrating mothers comes from many stories. However, it was the influence of women in the US that really set the stage for this holiday. The modern American holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial (纪念仪式) for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia.
