第二节:续写(满分 25 分)

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Peter, a 5-year-old boy, showed such great interest in sea shells that he would rush to pick them up with his 3-year-old sister, Shirley. They screamed out their joy as Peter collected his treasure into his pockets. For Peter, sea shells lay shinning on the peaceful beach, waiting for him, just like stars twinkling ( 闪烁) in the sky. As waves touched them, they seemed to be flowers blooming (绽放)in gentle wind.

One day, Peter was wandering through market with Shirley, with some shells in his pocket. Suddenly Peter found his younger sister was lagging ( 落后) behind. He stopped and looked back, finding Shirley was standing in front of a toy shop and was staring at something with great interest.

The boy went back to her and asked, "What do you want?" Shirley pointed at the doll, wearing a smile on her innocent face. Peter held his younger sister's tiny hand, walking into the shop. He tiptoed ( 踮起脚尖) to reach for the doll, and like a responsible elder brother, gave the precious doll to Shirley. Holding tightly the doll, the sister was very very happy.

The shopkeeper was watching everything and getting amused to see the matured ( 成熟的) behavior of the boy. Now the boy came to the counter and asked the shopkeeper, "How much does this doll cost, Sir?”

The shopkeeper was a cool man, who had suffered from something in his life. So he asked the boy with love and affection, "Well, what can you pay? "Peter reached into his clothes for money that was intended for these two little guys' breakfast. Having counted the money, Peter put it carefully on the counter, asking again, "Sir, is it enough for my little sister's doll?”

The amusing scene just in front of the shopkeeper eventually brought a smile on his face. Shaking his head slightly, he replied, "My boy, I am afraid it seems not to be enough.”

第三节阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

第四节When Ben delivered milk to my cousin's home that morning, he wasn’t his usual sunny self.

第五节It was late November, and as a newcomer to Lawndale, California. I was delighted that milkmen still brought bottles of milk to doorsteps. In the weeks that my husband, kids and I had been staying with my cousin while house- hunting, I had come to enjoy Ben’s sunny personality and cheerful conversation.

第六节Today, however, he was in a bad mood as he dropped off his milk from his truck. He placed the some embarrassment, he told me two customers had left town without paying their bills, and he would have to cover the losses. One of the debtors owed only S 10, but the other was $79 in arrears (逾期欠款) and had left no forwarding (发送) address. Ben was upset for allowing this bill to grow so large.

第七节"She was a pretty woman," he said, with six children and another on the way. She was always saying, 'I' m going to pay you soon, when my husband gets a second job. ' I believed her. What a fool I was! I thought I was doing a good thing, but I’ve learned my lesson. I've been cheated All I could say was, I’m so sorry.

第八节The next time I saw him, his anger seemed worse. I repeated how sorry I was about his loss of income. But when Ben left, I found myself caught up in his problem and longed to help. I worried that his might turn a cheerful person into a bitter one. I thought how to help him. Then, remembering that Christmas

was coming. I thought of what my grandmother used to say: "When someone has taken something from you, give it to them, and then you can never be robbed.

第九节The next time Ben delivered milk, I told him I had a way to make him feel better about the $79.

“Nothing will do that, "he said, but tell me anyway.”

“Forget about it, Give the woman the milk as a Christmas present.”

第二节:读后续写(满分25分)

Paragraph 1:

“Are you kidding?” he replied. He looked up at me with a scowl. “It wasn’t your $79.” Indignation was clearly written on his face. Throwing him a comforting smile, I tried to get my point across to him but in vain. Every time he came, we’d joke about it. “Have you given her the milk yet?” “No,” he’d snap back. But he seemed to light up a bit more. Then, six days before Christmas, it happened. Ben almost ran up the walk with a cheerful smile and a glint in his eyes, “I did it!” he said. “I gave her the milk as a Christmas present.” I was on the verge of tears as I knew he meant it in his heart and the sunny boy had come back.

Paragraph 2:

Two months later, while delivering milk, Ben saw a woman running toward him, waving money. Ben recognized her immediately---the woman who didn’t pay her bill. She was carrying an infant in a tiny blanket. “Ben, wait a minute!” she gasped. “I’ve got money for you.” Ben stopped the truck and got out. She explained that her husband had come home one night and a nnounced he’d found a cheaper apartment. He’d also gotten a night job. With all that had happened, she5d forgotten to leave a forwarding address. “Here’s $79” she handed him the money. “It’s been paid.” Ben replied. “Paid!” she exclaimed. “Who paid it?” “I did.” Ben replied with a proud grin on his face.

第二节读后续写(满分25分)

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Emily White was born seventeen years ago with so many birth problems in her body. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance.

In Emily White’s hometown, there was a yearly outdoor performance in the school auditorium(大礼堂). It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town’s people.

Many people tried out each year for it, but so many were turned away. It can only include the most excellent people in the field.

Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens – her music teacher to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a look at Amy’s body and said, “Child, you just don’t fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too.”

Without singing a single not, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral room. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs. Owens then retired.

This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Buttler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try.

Emily didn’t want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr. Buttler cal led, “Emily, you’re next.” Although kind of nervous, Emily did as Mr. Buttler told her to do. Mr. Buttler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr. Buttler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day.

Emily couldn’t sleep that night. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn’t fit and the great need to be

accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain because of stress.

读后续写:

The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. She was not rejected this time. Her name was posted at the top of the list. She, Emily White, was chosen to be the leading singer! She would sing alone in the performance. Emily couldn't believe her eyes. There must be some mistake. But Mr. Buttler said to her with determined eyes, “Emily, I choose you because you should perform the part — your voice is unusual. Believe in yourself“Greatly encouraged, Emily practiced really hard.

Finally, the day of performance came. Standing in front of the line, Emily felt her throat tight and her palms sweating. When the curtain opened up, the eyes of the whole audience fell upon Emily. "Emily White!" Someone whispered. Then, along with the first note of music, Emily began to sing her heart out. Her voice was like a nightingale ringing in the auditorium. Applause! Emily felt so happy and comfortable. She was shining on the stage. Emily White, with so many birth problems in her body, was an angel!

阅读下列短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I leaned over the front desk of the Santa Fe Veterinary Clinic, where I worked as a vet, and asked our receptionist, “What’s on for this afternoon, Kathy?” “Oh, the usual,” she said. “Except for Tiger.” She pointed to the carrier on the floor. “He needs his vaccinations(疫苗). Mrs. Johnson will pick him up about four-thirty.”

“I’ll get right to it,” I said, a little puzzled. Vaccinating a cat was a “usual” type of case, and owner s often left their

pets with us for the day. “You haven’t met Tiger,” Kathy continued as I reached for the carrier. “Tiger hates vets and hasn’t been in since last year.”

A growl ( 咆哮) came out of the carrier. I took the carrier into an examination room, placed it on the table and looked into the carrier.

The large cat stared angril y at me. “Hi, Tiger.” I said, trying to be cheerful. “Don’t worry—we’ll get along just fine!” Tiger growled.

He hissed (嘶嘶叫) loudly at me when I unlocked the carrier door. His flattened ears, dark eyes and fluffed-out fur made him look like a Halloween cat. Slowly, I reached into the carrier. With a growl, Tiger tried to scratch at my hand! I jumped back, pulling my hand away just in time.

I lifted the back of the carrier and shook it gently, hoping the cat would slide out the open door. Some dry cat food slid out but Tiger didn’t. At this rate, Tiger would have never got vaccinated.

I thought about putting a towel over Tiger to protect me from his claws and teeth. But I knew that this protection would be limited—an angry cat can escape from under a towel rather easily. Besides, I didn’t want to just grab Tiger from his carrier—that would only make his attitude worse.

第三节读后续写范文:

“All right, Tiger,”I said. “Let’s try something else.” I left Tiger alone with the carrier unlocked. After a long time, I crept back, finding Tiger crouched on the table, grooming his fur. To avoid scaring him off, I strolled over and pretended to read case records --- too busy to pay attention to him. Glancing sideways, I could see Tiger watching me. “Meow,” he approached. Suddenly I felt something cold touch my fingers! “Are you tryingto make up to me?” I murmured. Tiger paused, then rubbed his head on my fingers. Encouraged by his attitude, I reache d out the other hand to pet him. Tiger backed away, but soon came forward. Inching my finger back behind his ear, I wiggled and scratched it gently. By the time Mrs. Johnson arrived, we had become good friends. Of course, he wasn’t happy when his new frien d vaccinated him and every time he came, he was the one who decided when it was to come out of the carrier!

In 1974, after filling out fifty applications, going through four interviews, and winning one offer, I took what I could get-a teaching job at what I considered a distant wild area: New Jersey. My characteristic optimism was alive only when I reminded myself that I would be doing what I had wanted to do since I was fourteen-teaching English.

School started, but I felt more and more as if I were in a foreign country. Was this rural area really New Jersey? My students took a week off when hunting season began. I was told they were also frequently absent in late October to help their fathers make hay on the farms. I was a young woman form New York City, who thought that “Make hay while the sun shines” just meant to have a good time.

But, still, I was teaching English. I worked hard, taking time off only to eat and sleep. And then there was my sixth-grade class-seventeen boys and five girls who were only six years younger than me. I had a problem long before I knew it. I was struggling in my work as a young idealistic teacher. I wanted to make literature come alive and to promote a love of the written word. The students wanted to throw spitballs and whisper dirty words in the back of the room.

In college I had been taught that a successful educator should ignore bad behavior. So I did, confident that, as the textbook had said, the bad behavior would disappear as I gave my students positive attention. It sounds reasonable, but the text evidently ignored the face that humans, in particular teenagers, rarely seem reasonable. By the time my boss, who was also my taskmaster, known to be the strictest, most demanding, most quick to fire inexperienced teachers, came into the classroom to observe me, the students exhibited very little good behavior to praise.

Paragraph 2:

【答案】Paragraph1:

My boss sat in the back of the room. The boys were making animal noises, throwing spitballs at each other while the girls concentrated on wearing makeups or read magazines. I just pretended it was not happening and ignored their bad behavior as usual. Not realizing the problem that the teenagers were already bored of the way I taught, I kept on lecturing and tried to impress them with the beauty of the written word. No wonder it was a failure. My boss, who seemed to be rather embarrassed, left the room after twenty minutes, silently. Visions of unemployment marched before my eyes.

Paragraph 2:

At my next free period, I had to face my boss. Knees wobbling and palms sweating, I walked into his office, ready to be fired. He was sitting in his chair, and looked at me long and hard. Without any blame, he simply said, “You had nothing to say to them.” After a while, he continued, “There is nothing wrong being idealistic, but literature requires communication. Talk with them, not at them. And more important, why do you ignore their bad behavior?” After hours of discussions on literature and ideas about human beings and their motivati ons, I finally

identified my weaknesses and strengths and learned these important words: The secret to education lies in respecting the students.

Their skate blades looked like silver smoke. When the game was over, the girls skated up to the bench where Craig was sitting. Craig asked Riley what skating felt like. “When I go really fast, I feel like I’m flying,” she said. That’s silly, thought Craig. Flying is something birds do in the air, not something people do on ice skates. Then he watched Riley go back out on the ice. She skated around and around the edge of the lake with her arms pumping and her scarf trailing behind her. Soon she went so fast that her arms looked like wings and her scarf looked like a feathery tail. Maybe skating really was like flying. When Riley sat down to take her skates off, Craig said, “I wish I could fly.” Riley retied her skate laces and crouched next to Craig. “Get on my back,” she said, and Craig did. Riley started skating, but Craig didn’t feel like he was flying. It just felt like a shaking piggyback ride. “You’re too heavy,” Riley said. “I can’t go fast when I’m carrying you.” She skated slowly back to the bench. Craig got off her back. “Even if you could go fast, I wouldn’t be flying.” he said sadly. “I need skates to fly.” Riley didn’t say anything on the walk home, but a few days later she asked Craig if he wanted to go skating. “To watch?” he asked. “No, to skate,” she said cheerfully. “Mom and I found a pair of my old skates. They might fit you.” The skates were a little big, but when Riley stuffed newspaper in the toes, they fit. Craig couldn’t stop smiling. He didn’t want to take them off, but he had to so he could walk to the lake. Riley and Liz went with him. They carried their hockey sticks and a wooden chair. Hardly had they got to the lake when Craig put his skates back on and Riley helped him onto the ice. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: Then she put his hands on the back of the chair. ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________

When my mom was busy in the kitchen, she let me stay on the balcony watching the kids playing in the street. On that balcony I played sometimes with my elder sister,Maria. She was seven years old and when my mon was absent she was like a mother to me. The balcony was a great hobby place for my father. After his work he used to grow carnations(康乃馨)in the flower boxes. His carnations were red, pink and white, and everyone appreciated them for their beauty. He took care of them with so much love and devotion. He dealt carefully with his flowers like a mother taking care of her baby. Many times I sat on the floor of the balcony for hours observing him and his lovely flowers with patience. He was always doing something on that balcony. He was watering them every day, cleaning the balcony floor, changing the potting soil and when the stems(茎)were thick, strong and high enough, he started his improvement operation like a doctor. My dad took a tiny knife and with his left hand he held the stem of the carnation and measured the height. Then he made a small mark on the stem with his finger. Afterwards he made a sharp cut with the knife, just enough to fit in a grain of barley(插穗的芽). Then he bandaged the stem with a small bandage. His job was then to water the plants and to take care of them. “No one should touch them” , he said to mom. Every day, when he came home from work he went straight to the balcony. Mom used to tell us: “Do not touch daddy’s flowers. ” For us it was a fascinating experience to watch how the small stems were growing and making flowers. Everyone sympathized with him depending an long hours minimum wage, and ill-mannered customers. Although struggling to pay his rent he still went all out to make those lucky enough to sit at his tables laugh. The day was going quick. He was exhausted when he arrived to work the next day, but he went about his daily duties, putting on a brave face as customers complained about the food or questioned the bill. Usually as he prepared to close for the night, a couple of customers would sit down and order drinks. Most of the crew had left by closing time, but Seminole stayed to serve. Eventually, the last round was ordered and he gave them the bill. The minimum tip was suggested on the receipt. “Tomorrow will be better,” murmured he. But luck wasn't on his side. Evening approaching, a group of teenagers stepped in. Thankfully, they were polite and respectful. Their cheerful behavior began to rub off on him. As always, he did his best to make their dining experience a pleasant one. Once they finished their dishes, he placed the bill on the table, accompanied with some candies. They placed their notes on the receipt and left smiling. When he returned to clear the table, he was shocked. The teenagers only left a tip of $3, but their total bill was more than $100. He'd gone above and beyond serving the tasty dishes. Ho would they be so rude? Later that week, he struggled to let go of the awkward memories. He arrived at work and expected it to like any other, but there was something left behind the desk for him--a two-page handwritten letter from the teenagers with $18 attached, in which they explained they were unaware of the tipping practice due to it being their first time out alone. Everything suddenly made sense. Seminole was so touched by their gesture that he uploaded a picture of the letter sharing their admirable efforts. Web visitors voiced their opinions, and the reaction was more than positive. 21.Why did Seminole wear a brave face? A.To serve better. B.To relax himself. C.To sell more drinks. D.To gain a reputation. 22 What made the teenagers only leave a tip of $3? A.Ignorance of tipping culture. B.Dissatisfaction with the meal. C.Gratitude for Seminole's service. 2020-2021学年高二下学期英语期初试题精选汇编:读后续写专题

读后续写专题 第二节读后续写(满分25分) The story between Mr. Jordan and me was the most amazing story I wanted to share. Mr. Jordan was one of the teachers who I would never forget. When I was young at school, I loved talking, a characteristic not always appreciated by Mr. Jordan, my 10-grade English teacher. Mr. Jordan was a teacher whom no one liked because he was too strict. He stood about 5-foot-five, was very thin and wore his hair pulled back in a way that gave him a horsy look. He wore those half-circular reading glasses. Whenever he got upset, he would lower his head and look at you over the top of his glasses. One day in his class I was busy talking. I didn’t realize he had stopped teaching and staring straight at me. “Sam, I would like to see you after school.” Later Mr. Jordan explained in a low, but very firm voice that showed he expected me to listen when he was talking. For punishment he told me to write a thousand-word essay on education and its effect on the society. He wanted it in by the following Wednesday. Well, I met my deadline. I was confident. It was a good paper. And I expected a sign of approval from him. The next day in class, however, he was looking at me over his glasses. He called me forward and returned my paper. “Go back a nd rewrite,” he said. “Remember, each paragraph is supported to begin with a topic sentence.” When he gave my paper back a second time, he corrected the grammar. The third time, the spelling. The fourth time, it was punctuation. The fifth, it wasn’t neat e nough. I was sick! The sixth time, I rewrote the whole paper slowly in ink, leaving generous space. When he saw it, he removed his glasses and smiled. He firmly accepted the paper. After that, I put the whole thing out of my mind. 注意:续写词数应为150左右。 Paragraph 1: One day after two weeks, Mr. Jordan came into the class and said, Paragraph 2: I was amazed, thrilled and grateful. 读后续写 One day after two weeks, Mr. Jordan came into the class and said,“Class, do you still remember the essay contest held in our school? They’ve announced the winners.I am so glad to inform you that Sam h as won the first prize in the essay contest with the title ‘Education and Its Effect on the Society’.” Then thunderous applause rocked the classroom. After class, many classmates asked me how I made it.Without excellent writing skills, I well
