阅读理解题型分类练(七) 主旨大意题——标题归纳类 A [2022·高三湖北十一校第一次联考] As 16yearold Torri'ell Norwood drove through Florida, last February, the laughter and chatter from the four teenage girls inside her car quickly gave way to screams. As they approached an intersection, another car crashed them, sending their car sailing into the yard of a nearby home, coming to a stop only when it crashed into a tree. As smoke rose from the car, a bystander shouted, “It's about to blow up! Get out!” Shaken but OK, Norwood crawled out thr ough the window as the driver's side door couldn't be opened.Along with two of her friends, who'd also managed to free themselves, she ran for her life. But halfway down the street, she realized that her best friend, Simmons, wasn't with them. Norwood ran back and found Simmons unconscious in the back seat. She threw open the back door and pulled her friend out. She dragged Simmons a few feet to safety and laid her on the ground. After checking her pulse and found there was no sign of life, she started CPR. Had the accident happened a few weeks earlier, she might not have known what to do. But just the day before, Norwood, who wanted to pursue a career in medicine, had earned her CPR certificate by learning on her own. Kneeling on the lawn and looking down at her dying friend, Norwood knew she had precious little time to practice what she'd learned. She started pumping Simmons's chest with her interlocked fingers and breathing into her friend's mouth in the hope of filling her lungs with the kiss of life. After quite a while, Simmons began coughing and taking quick deep breaths for air. The CPR had worked! Soon, the ambulance arrived and rushed Simmons to the hospital. And then she heard how her best friend had saved her life. “I am not shocked,” Simmons told ot hers. “She will always help any way she can.” 1.What caused the car crash?

2023年新高考英语二轮拔高班复习资料 阅读理解训练题型:说明文题组训练(六) 姓名:班级:学校:错题号: (2022·湖北襄阳·襄阳四中校考模拟预测)Public toilets around the globe have a reputation for being dark, dirty and dangerous. Tokyo recently unveiled new restrooms in two public parks that aim to address those concerns. For one thing, they are brightly lit and colorful. For another, they are transparent. This way, those who need to go can check out the cleanliness and safety of the toilets without having to walk inside or touch a thing. Japan has long experimented with toilets, resulting in lids that open, and close automatically and seats that warm up. But the new toilets—designed by Shigeru Ban, the Pritzker Prize-winning architect—are made out of a “smart glass.” The toilets were installed in Tokyo in September. Set up in front of a cluster of trees in the Shibuya District, the toilets stand out like a Mondrian painting. When occupied and locked properly, the colored glass toilets become frosted (磨砂的) and opaque (not transparent). When the door is unlocked, an electric current rearranges the crystals in the glass to allow more light to pass through, creating a transparent effect. The toilets were presented as another futuristic and aesthetically (美学地) pleasing example of the country’s technological advancements. The predecessor to Tokyo’s transparent toilets appeared in Switzerland in 2002, when designer Olivier Rambert unveiled two glass restrooms in the city of Lausanne. They had a safety feature that automatically opened the doors and turned the glass transparent if sensors detected no motion for 10 minutes. That could possibly help users who fall unconscious and need medical attention.

阅读理解题型分类练(十) 词句猜测题——词义猜测类 A [2022·石家庄市高三教学质量检测(一)] Bob Shahmardi was 4 years old when he developed a severe disease. Success rates with the disease were relatively low at that time, but his family was lucky to find a community that was helpful when they didn't have many resources and it was at that time that MakeAWish stepped in. Through that organization, the Shahmardi family got to enjoy a trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The then 4yearold hugged a character actor as part of a wish granted to him and his family by the organization. “It wasn't just going on a trip. It was more about how we got through that hard time. It was fun for me, but it was a lifeline for my parents,” said Bob. 30 years later, Bob and his wife, Jill Welch, decided to turn their wedding into a fundraiser for the MakeAWish Foundation. Their wedding guests financed two wishes of local children, with more being planned. Many donated generously to the cause, spending more, perhaps, than they might have if it was just to buy the couple a wedding gift like fine china or a kitchen appliance. Bo b said their wedding donation to the MakeAWish Foundation isn't going to be a “one__and__done” situation. The second plan on continuing to contribute is going forward. Gloria Jetter Crockett, president and chief executive officer of the organization, said she felt it amazing to have someone who benefited come back to pay it forward to other kids looking for wishes. Contrary to popular belief, Gloria stressed that wishes aren't given to critically ill children as a “last wish”, but are given as a part of the treatment process. The organization granted at least 165 wishes last year. This year Gloria hopes to grant wishes whose number is somewhere between 199 and 299, depending on funding. 1.Which of the following helped Bob realize his wish? A.The hospital.

近三年(2020——2022)高考真题——说明文阅读 1.(2020年新课标Ⅰ)C Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem. Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass. Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says, According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories(卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour. However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step. As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport’s strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice. 28. Why are race walkers conditioned athletes? A. They must run long distances. B. They are qualified for the marathon. C. They have to follow special rules. D. They are good at swinging their legs. 29. What advantage does race walking have over running? A. It’s more popular at the Olympics. B. It’s less challenging physically. C. It’s more effective in body building. D. It’s less likely to cause knee injuries. 30. What is Dr. Norberg’s suggestion for someone trying race walking? A. Getting experts’ opinions. B. Having a medical checkup. C. Hiring an experienced coach. D. Doing regular exercises. 31. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to race walking? A. Skeptical. B. Objective. C. Tolerant. D. Conservative. 2.(2020年新课标Ⅰ)D The connection between people and plants has long been the subject of scientific research. Recent studies have found positive effects. A study conducted in Youngstown,Ohio, for example, discovered that greener areas of the city experienced less crime. In another, employees were shown to be 15% more productive when their workplaces were decorated with houseplants. The engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT)have taken it a step further changing the actual composition of plants in order to get them to perform diverse, even unusual functions. These include plants that have sensors printed onto their leaves to show when they’re short of water and a plant that can detect harmful chemicals in groundwater. "We’re thinking about how we can engineer plants to replace functions of the things that we use every day,"explained Michael Strano, a professor of chemical engineering at MIT. One of his latest projects has been to make plants glow(发光)in experiments using some common vegetables. Strano’s team found that they could create a faint light for three-and-a-half hours. The light, about one-thousandth of the amount needed to read by,is just a start. The technology, Strano said, could one day be used to light the rooms or even to turn tree into self-powered street lamps. In the future, the team hopes to develop a version of the technology that can be sprayed onto plant leaves in a one-off treatment that would last the plant’s lifetime. The engineers are also trying to develop an on and off"switch"where the glow would fade when exposed to daylight. Lighting accounts for about 7% of the total electricity consumed in the US. Since lighting is often far removed from the power source(电源)—such as the distance from a power plant to street

三、实战演练 【原创试题(一)】 I didn’t q uite know what I was looking for when I flew to Mongolia for a semester abroad. I just needed something different, far from the late-night libraries of my college town. Most different, I hoped, would be my rural homestay: two weeks in central Mongolia with a family of nomadic (游牧的) herders.

A All lights are out here in my home city of Dhaka(达卡,孟加拉国首都)as I write these words. Cyclone (龙卷风)Sitrang has knocked out the electricity, plunging this city of 22 million people into darkness. But one thing we Bangladeshis are not in the dark about is climate change. We understand that overheating the planet has made cyclones stronger and more destructive. We know this largely because our media have long treated climate change as a major news story that the public needs to know about. As record heat, drought, fires, and floods afflict more and more of humanity, it is clear that our planetary house is on fire. Our experience in Bangladesh illustrates that more and better news coverage is also an essential climate solution, because it fosters the broad awareness and public pressure on governments thafs needed to put the fire out. Unfortunately, mainstream news outlets in the U.S. have a long history of downplaying or misreporting the climate story. During Obama's presidency, U.S. news outlets devoted 40 times as much coverage to the Kardashians as to how global warming was overheating the oceans. In 2021, climate stories still accounted for only 1% of total coverage by ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox News. Not so in Bangladesh. Tens of millions of people live in the low-lying coastal region, where they are threatened by cyclones from the ocean and sea level rise. Extreme weather events kept illustrating how vulnerable our country was. Climate change is therefore a life-and-death issue for Bangladesh, and our media cover it accordingly. The contrast with the U.S. is stark. When Hurricane Ian was bearing down on Florida, only 4% of U.S. national-TV networks9initial coverage even mentioned climate change. Is it any surprise, then, that Americans know so little about climate change? More and better news coverage is not a silver bullet. But it is indispensable to changing course in time to preserve a livable planet, for all of us. 1.What do Bangladeshis have a good knowledge of according to the text? A.the power failure B.climate change C.our planetary house D.Cyclone SitrangWhich of the following is correct according to the passage? A.U.S. news reported 40 times as much coverage to the global warming as to the Kardashians. B.Mainstream news media in Bangladesh have misreported the climate issue. C.Hurricane Ian showed how vulnerable America was. D.It is important for the media to cover climate change more and better. 2.What does “silver bullet“ mean in the last paragraph? A.a magical weapon B.something hard to tackle with

Preschool Girl Lifts Old Man’s Spirits When Tara Wood brought her daughter to a grocery store to buy the four-year-old some cupcakes, she had no idea that would be a life-changing experience. As Tara pushed her daughter Norah around the store last month, she passed an old man who was by himself. The old man looked cold, until Norah shouted to him, “Hi! It’s my birthday today!” The man stopped and his demeanor changed from distant and serious to warm and friendly. “How old are you today?” the man asked. After some time talking together, Norah asked her mom to take a picture of her with her new friend “Mr. Dan”, Dan Peterson, 82. They hugged and after ten minutes went their separate ways. That could have been the end of the story. But it is actually the beginning of a special relationship. Tara posted the picture of her daughter and Mr. Dan on Facebook and someone who recognized him reached out to her with his contact information. It turned out that Mr. Dan’s wife died in March and he had been suffering from depression and anxiety ever since. The person on Facebook told Tara that it was the first time they had seen Mr. Dan smile since the death of his wife. Knowing that, Tara contacted Mr. Dan, and ever since Norah and the 82-year-old have developed a friendship unlike any other. “She has shown me a depth of love, a depth that I didn’t know existed,” Mr. Dan told the reporter. Mr. Dan told Tara that before meeting Norah, he hadn’t had one night of uninterrupted sleep. Anxiety kept him up at all hours and made him restless. After meeting Norah, he said he now sleeps soundly. For Mr. Dan’s 82nd birthday on October 20, the mother and the daughter brought balloons and presents — and, of course, cupcakes.
